As an adult a lot of that interest has just turned into interest in traveling to other countries, and doing outdoor activities like hiking, camping, or 4x4ing
I still like gaming but to me real life is like the ultimate open world game to explore once you’re an adult and have money
I think the complicated story/narrative threw a lot of people off from appreciating it
Really good movie to re-watch multiple times, the scope of that movie is crazy
You can’t just job hop like in tech?
It’s like everyone on this site views the whole world through a super narrow “tech worker” lense and assume every job works the same and everyone has the same motivations as people in tech
Usually like ~1 hour outside the city center
People generally only care about seeing reviews for the current models available to purchase, which is already handle by sites like Amazon
What use is a review for a 10 year old TV you can no longer purchase?
It’s not like a movie where people are still watching it many years later
It’s like “yeah we don’t really know what it’s going to do and it might screw up but whatever just launch it”
Really surprised me that so many companies are willing to jump into LLMs without any guarantee that the output won’t be something completely insane
Do you think fixing bugs gets you promoted?
If you’re ever wondering “why does company do X”, look at the incentives
Outcomes follow incentives and products are reflections of the organizations that created them
You can spend days generating one frame of the video offline
Whereas realtime you need to generate a frame in the magnitude of 30-40ms
You can’t uninvent something
The only thing I can imagine is like limiting people’s compute power
But even then they’d just go do it in another country or use an online service based in another country
It gets ridiculously bloated
Yours just happened to be still doable
* Better for mechanics as it’s standardized and they don’t have to figure out the UI of every car model to read the codes (if I were a mechanic I’d definitely prefer just plugging in the meter)
* The debugging is decoupled from the infotainment/dash so it’s more reliable, it would be pretty dumb if you had to have a working infotainment system to read engine codes
* An OBD meter is like $20?
* Historically a lot of cars probably had no display for showing codes
Something that sounds cool in theory but Apple will eventually drop in future models as it just adds extra complexity/cost for little benefit.
At big companies the attitude is almost like: clock in, do the minimum, clock out
I used to work at a startup and it was probably the funnest time of my whole career despite the bad pay
I wouldn’t go back but I do miss it sometimes
And then sign the images in hardware so that you can prove an image came from a specific camera and hasn’t been altered?
Your phone already comes with lots of apps you didn’t install
How is that any different at all?
Of all the things to complain about Apple this seems like the minor-est
Cleaning, food prep, labor, retail, etc…
It’s jobs that exist in the digital realm that are way more likely to be automated in the near term
I feel like these discussions are always so high level/hand wavy
