I guess this would be easier in a beighbourhood laundromat with local clients, but in a hotel with many foreigners it becomes a pain with so many dependencies needed to use the washer and dryer.
A few years ago when SMS tokens and Authenticator apps where less common, I was able to do work without having my phone on the same room as my computer. Now I need to have it on my desk most of the time for logging in.
Is the Chinese instagram’s name, Little Red Book (小红书), related to Facebook’s Little Red Book, or just a coincidence?
Everything from Voidtools is a dialog window, accepts patterns and is really fast.
Korean: Ne = yes
Dutch: Nee = no

And Japanese names that sound similar to Spanish phrases:
Yamamoto - Llama Moto - Fire Motorcycle
Niigata - Ni gata - Not even a cat
Kazamaura - Casa/Caza Maura - Marries or Hunts Maura
Nomiya - … No mía - Not mine / Doesn’t pee
And then there is:
Kaga - … Kagasawa - …
What I don’t know is if there are Spanish puns in Japanese?
I always wonder who comes up with these full of friction "tech innovations".
Last time it took me about five minutes to order a soda from one of those machines in a hotel. It even required a phone number to complete the order.
Another day that machine failed mid transaction but charged my card so I had to email the hotel's accounting department to get a refund about a week later.
- Having an app store account of the country you are visiting.
Some of this apps are geo restricted and can't be downloaded with foreign app store accounts. Sometimes they can't process foreign cards or foreign phone numbers.
Just adding, in the case of Facade, is very similar to the french façade.
So I guess the ç cedille was lost in translation. French uses the ç to make the ça and ço syllables change from /k/ to /s/.
I've noticed something with boot camp programmers too.
Something that may have changed is that newer graduates may have studied programming because "it pays well", and not because they were computer hobbyists before deciding what to study.
I've been on meetings with some programmers that didn't know how to use a gui ftp client or how to manually upload a file to a server. Because most of that stuff is abstracted now.
But Edge seems to get worse after each update.
Recent updates have give me a new sidebar and video backgrounds on tabs. And a cloud based Microsoft Editor or something that I guess it sends everything I type to the cloud.
One thing I've definitely noticed is the more you earn the more you seem to get for free.
- The ones who work for the bigger companies / multinational get complimentary private healthcare, additional to the state owned one. So they have shorter wait times and usually pay about 80% for healthcare than those without the benefit. I know some that work for international organizations that even have 0% copay insurance coverage valid worldwide.
- Those who have good credit record or higher credit limits. If they happen to run out for money before the end of the month. They can pay interest free with their credit cards as long as they pay back within the next month. And even if they pay back later, their interest rates are 1/4th of those with lower credit records or lower credit limits.
- Those with middle salaries, and stable jobs, can get a short term loan from their bank directly easiliy. There's interest payment but it's not that bad. But those with unstable incomes don't have any other option but to use the most expensive lenders.
- Higher paid jobs usually get complimentary phones and generous data plans from their employers, so they don't need to worry about buying or paying for their phones. If it gets lost or stolen then it gets replaced by their employer. On the other hand others have get second hand phones and pay them with their own money.
- Those with lower incomes can go on vacation to a nearby city or a nearby country. While those with higher income tend to travel at a vary discounted rate using frequent flyer miles.
I wonder if the same will happen to online travel pre-entry-authorizations.
During Covid many countries implemented pre-entry-authorizations, similar to US ESTA or Canadian ETA.
Even if the Covid emergency state has been over, some countries that didn't have this forms before, still require them for travel.
I remember that for a few months before my partner broke up with me, their IG feed was full of reels, posts, 'comedy', 'psychology tips', about people complaining about their partners. And also lots of Insta influencers posts giving relationship tips or encouraging people to break up for diverse reasons.
While I'm aware my relationship wasn't perfect, the standards promoted by those aesthetic Insta influencers were really impossible to obtain in real life. Unless of course your life consisted only of perfectly curated Insta moments.
I don't have an active twitter account, so one of the things I like from post-Musk Twitter is that it no longer requires me to login for reading tweets or for searching.
