nahtnam··on Simple Bank Is Closing
I'm a SoFi user and I see the option to set up recurring transfers to vaults https://imgur.com/a/lOXI21u
nahtnam··on Simple Bank Is Closing
I believe they are also based on BBVA or something similar but they applied for a charter license[1] which I think would allow them to run without any underlying bank.

This is what it says at the bottom of their website:

> 5 The cash balance in SoFi Money cash management accounts is swept to one or more program banks where it earns a variable rate of interest and is eligible for FDIC insurance. FDIC Insurance does not immediately apply. Coverage begins when funds arrive at a program bank. There are currently six banks available to accept these deposits, making customers eligible for up to $1,500,000 of FDIC insurance (six banks, $250,000 per bank). If the number of available banks changes, or you elect not to use, and/or have existing assets at, one or more of the available banks, the actual amount could be lower. For more information on FDIC insurance coverage, please visit www.FDIC.gov. Customers are responsible for monitoring their total assets at each of the Program Banks to determine the extent of available FDIC insurance coverage in accordance with FDIC rules. The deposits in SoFi Money or at Program Banks are not covered by SIPC.

I would say a year or so, happy to answer any questions. (Not at all related to them, just a happy customer)
nahtnam··on Simple Bank Is Closing
Been a huge fan of SoFi. They have similar features to Simple but offer a wider range of services

Anyone else worried that while these performance improvements are really good, that this is further locking people into Apple's ecosystem? No self-repairs, no bootcamp support, etc

Check out Prisma. It generates lot more complex types and supports relationships pretty well

nahtnam··on Section 230 Explained
So if the government is stepping in here and moving the liability from the platform to the content creator as a favor to the company, shouldn't the company be required to not be allowed to selectively allow posts (assuming it is legal content and related). I.e. why cant The New York Times call themselves a platform and just post whatever they want? Where would you draw the line?
nahtnam··on Section 230 Explained
If you falsely slander me, doesn't 230 make it so that Hacker News can't get sued? If the government is protecting the company here, then the government should be able to also enforce rules that come with that benefit right?
nahtnam··on Section 230 Explained
So if the company hosts false information against me (that a user posted), I can sue them?
nahtnam··on Section 230 Explained
So in that case are you against 230? If someone falsely defames me, who do I sue?
nahtnam··on Section 230 Explained
So where do you stand on 230? Are private entities responsible for the content they host? If we repeal 230 and someone posts something falsely defaming me, who do I sue?
nahtnam··on Section 230 Explained
I agree with this. From a libertarian stand point, the gov stepped in to help (rightfully, sometimes we need it) but it was originally written in a way that is now being abused. I don't see a problem changing it so that if you a companies gets to decide what they want to show and not show, they should be liable just like news sites.

I'm open to hearing the opposite side if anyone has any arguments on why it shouldn't change

nahtnam··on Cloudflare’s privacy crusade continues with a challenge to Google Analytics
While I agree with you, I'm guessing that the vast majority of the users of this feature wouldn't have SSL without it, so it's better in some sense?
nahtnam··on The Era of Visual Studio Code
You can try the following: 1. Open the explorer tab on the left 2. Drag every other item on the left bar into the explorer menu. This adds a little menu at the bottom 3. Collapse each of the menus at the bottom and never open them again
nahtnam··on Firefox 81.0
I feel the same on Mac. I really want to use Firefox but as of right now I feel like Chromium is much better built. Another annoyance is the back and forward buttons don't work on Firefox but they do work on Chrome. I'd check out Brave, they've done a few shady things in the past but generally care about privacy and are quick to resolve any issues

I think its more "It is legal for me to ban coupons at my store" and then suing another company for not letting you use coupons at their store. I'm not 100% sure though
nahtnam··on Time to Upgrade Your Monitor
I just recently went from 2 4k monitors to 3 2k 144hz monitors. I'd argue as long as the panel quality is decent, 144hz is a much better quality of life improvement than 2k to 4k is

Even if they asked those questions, the PR would've looked pretty legit. No one directly asks "did your manager approve this?", that would be silly. When a PR is made and you're asked to review, you assume that the person went through the proper steps to get approval in the first place. In this case those other employees would've seen just another notice being added to an employee page
