n-gauge··on Ikutaro Kakehashi, founder of Roland, has died
Very sad.

I'm still rocking an EP7 IIe Piano after all these years...

n-gauge··on Nintendo Switch review: pure potential
..and maybe to stop users playing HTML games (Nintendo ripoffs for example). This is a shame as I felt the Wii U was crippled in this respect (i.e. video tag supported but not audio!)
n-gauge··on Desktop tool to find if your site shows Chrome's “Not Secure” warnings anywhere
I would have thought a simple grep would do the trick if you have the source code.
n-gauge··on Wolfenstein 3D – Gameboy cartridge with co-processor
Amazing - I still don't fully understand how you manage to do rays on a tile based system, with so many textures to account for...
n-gauge··on Review: The NES Classic Edition and all 30 games on it
Anyone know if the emulator in this allows the -1 world trick in super Mario Bros? I have the wii u vc version but that doesn't...
n-gauge··on Show HN: WebRTC Serverless 2-player 2048 Game with Annotated Source
This looks like a good source to learn WebRTC data channels. Correct?
n-gauge··on Nintendo Switch – New Video Game System [video]
It's like their 'HTML5' browser (on either the wii or wiiu) so slow! The thing is the Wii U specs could have run at least some version of Chrome... I don't think it's hardware accelerated in anyway - prehaps to stop html5 games interfering with 3rd party games maybe?
n-gauge··on Most drivers who own cars with built-in GPS systems use phones for directions
Can confirm. If the iu / method of entering a postcode wasn't so faffy for the in car satnav, it would serfice.
n-gauge··on Ask HN: What do you think about this Android app?
Great idea! The only thing I could think of adding, is when you last took your drugs, you could have some sort of button you press on the lock screen and a tick list.

Going further you could have a progress bar next to each drug which slowly goes down depending on when you should take it next .

n-gauge··on Microsoft aren't forcing Lenovo to block free operating systems
What about other big customers of Lenovo ? Those that use Linux for Java development but are not Microsoft for example. I don't see this as carelessness, and how much money would a market leader make from such a corrupt request?
n-gauge··on Microsoft aren't forcing Lenovo to block free operating systems
from what has been shown to be a reversed engineer of the bios... a simple goto statement to skip menu config code muddies the water here... Why would a professional company do this? It certainly doesn't look accidental when seen from this angle.
n-gauge··on "This is Tayo. He's 11 and showed me a game he built called Spike Rush"
Your quote reminds me of Robin Hood.
n-gauge··on Google HTML/CSS Style Guide – Omit Optional Tags
This to me is like:

if (x) { ... ... } someMethod()

Changed to :

if (x) { ... ... someMethod()

It's not as readable. Maybe as others have suggested, leave it to a compiler.

n-gauge··on Mars Has Flowing Water in the Summer
If Mars is farther away than Earth from the Sun, how come the scientists believe Mars was once warmer and wetter than today?
n-gauge··on Why we challenge Microsoft’s battery test
On a side note: I've been testing edge on a Dell 1012 netbook (atom, 2gb) and it beats Chrome for rendering YouTube videos (480p max!) which I found surprising (video stutters on Chrome). However on my main laptop when running scratch (ok flash based), cloud based games are better sync'd when using Chrome (it's a slither.io clone). Overall battery life is exceptable for both browsers.
n-gauge··on Scammers Game Amazon A-Z Policy By Replacing iPhones With Clay
So is the clay endorsed with the fingerprints of the scammer?
n-gauge··on Flappy Bird Bot – Reinforcement Learning AI
The way the robo bird learns is inspiring.
n-gauge··on How big an issue is the nausea problem for VR products?
I've yet to blow chunks on a vr headset, however in 2015 I came close via a homemade headset for a nexus 7 with the cardboard app 'Drive City Rollercoster' Dispite nearly falling down the stairs with a nexus 7 strapped to my head, (I broke my fall with my left arm) I'm sure this tech will take off this year.
n-gauge··on Intent to implement: HTML5 by Default
I'm surprised the Scratch programming language which is currently all flash based isn't on the whitelist ?
n-gauge··on Pocket Sized Virtual Reality Device
I wonder how this would work without any magnetic switches - just that having made my own cardboard viewer for a nexus 7 and without the magnetic switch you have to tap the screen somehow which breaks the experience (for me)
n-gauge··on Show HN: Thunkable – A drag-and-drop tool for anyone to build native mobile apps
Could you tell us if the webview uses the built in chrome webview now? Just that I gave one of your earlier app inventor products a whirl and thought it was slow for html 5 and JavaScript stuff...
n-gauge··on Show HN: Peer-to-peer secure file transfer using WebRTC
Slightly off topic, but can anyone recommend a webrtc tutorial for data channels or any projects which can be used for player v player over the browser (chrome) . I guess like one player has to be the master and the other players join his/her webrtc connection ?
n-gauge··on NES Graphics – Part 3
Enjoyed the read on these retro systems. I would like to see a tutorial on creating a (NES) mapper from scratch. This link gives insights, but I need something more if possible. Cheers!
n-gauge··on Emulators written in JavaScript
Brings back some memories!

I added sound (via web audio) and touch / joystick controls to Ben Firshmans excellent NES emulator. Needs more mappers though.

Don't know if this counts as well - there's also phosphorus, a Scratch emulator:

n-gauge··on Mimic – abusing Unicode to create tragedy
Just chuck the code into an XML validator. Any character > 127 will be flagged as invalid.
n-gauge··on If you serve JavaScript with a 404 status does it still get executed?
Browser speed wars maybe?

// save some time.. if (header == 404) { // abort... and get the next thing }

n-gauge··on An AppleTV front end for NES emulators
Looks like a proper nes emulator rather than just a front end. (Checked out the mapper code which is required for nes emulators)

On a side note, how hard would it be to convert this mapper to JavaScript? https://github.com/jasarien/Provenance/blob/master/PVNES/NES...

n-gauge··on JavaScript “maze generator” in a tweet
even shorter, change the loop to:

for(i=4000;i--;)

.

n-gauge··on XML Data and XSL Views in Takes Framework
One question: can your solution deal with node sets as output (rather than xml) so to re-transform the input again?

If so, are you then using the parser to take the recursive hit (e.g stack space on a looping xml call-template) or the middle ware of yours? How are inline errors from the xsl handled etc....

n-gauge··on PPCB-MAKER a prototype PCB maker, create your PCB at home
What about disposal of the harmful chemicals used for etching? (ie you can't just tip them down the sink)
