n-gauge··on Show HN: I made a memory game to teach you to play piano by ear
This is great - bookmarked! I've connected my casio midi keyboard to it, hope it will help me with getting the right key of a song (I can work out a tune already, but sometimes in the wrong key)
n-gauge··on Show HN: Premium Photo Effects Studio – Apply 23 artistic effects in‑browser
Works for me, but some of the effects are a bit gimmicky - Please consider moving the effects to a drop down so that I don't have to constantly scroll up to check result.
n-gauge··on Solar panels to be fitted on all new-build homes in England by 2027
I've looked at a few new builds which also have heat pumps as standard. Looks like the trend is to have a smaller footprint and build upwards (so 3 floors).

Also adds ~100K to cost of new build for customer (which I think is to much), and this is without any battery included, would have thought ideal to pair with solar.

n-gauge··on Show HN: I built a word game. My mom thinks it's great. What do you think?
Just feedback from me: I enjoyed it and found it non frustrating to use. Not sure if I would create an account for it though.
n-gauge··on Janus Pro 1B running 100% locally in-browser on WebGPU
I like the local running of this and learning about how it works.

Q:These models running in WebGPU all seem to need nodejs installed. I that for just the local 'server side', can you not just use a python http server or tomcat for this and wget files?

n-gauge··on Teardown Design Notes
I recently bought this and found both the physics and graphics along with the raytracing to be excellent and what many have dreamed of, even on a 1080TI (non RTX card). I've played though the first level, however the sandbox mode is the most fun!
n-gauge··on Using a Raspberry Pi to Add MIDI to a CV Synthesizer
I created a midi piano in the browser for a Roland EP7 IIe that sent midi note off in a weird way - causing double notes , it would send the same note but with just the velocity information changed to 0, which most midi software didn't like.

https://htmlgames.github.io/htmlgames.github.io/htmlgames/PF...

So I just held the notes in an array and used that for note on/off information instead.

n-gauge··on Apple says game streaming services violate App Store policies
Wait - So you can have Netflix on IOS which is a streaming service, but not game streaming which is essentially the same thing?
n-gauge··on XP Paint – A Web-Based Version of Window XP's MS Paint
Nice job! (Would like to see Ctrl + e focus into the first value box)
n-gauge··on How is the state of virtualization these days? Is Virtualbox or VMware better?
Docker?
n-gauge··on Ask HN: How to secure the clipboard on Linux
You could run your browser in a vm , and disallow copy / pasting for that in the vm settings.
n-gauge··on Two capacitor paradox
Here's another one - put an oscilloscope across a capacitor and turn off the circuit it's connected too. Quickly short the capacitor with something, and watch the voltage on the oscilloscope as the capacitor discharges, remove the short and watch it start recharging slightly.

Where does this charge come from?

n-gauge··on Google Maps Hacks
Cool trick - I wonder how much of the cell tower's capacity he is hogging too?
n-gauge··on The first chosen-prefix collision for SHA-1
As GPU's get better the cost will come down. Was it a massive cluster of RTX2060's or something?
n-gauge··on Show HN: Simple 2D car physics with JavaScript
Good work! Q: How well would multiplayer work if you used webRTC data sockets instead?
n-gauge··on Ask HN: Has Google bricked your chromium app because they did hours
https://www.xda-developers.com/google-chrome-android-droppin...

The current minimum API level for Chrome is Android 4.1. According to a recent commit, it will soon be bumped up to Android 4.4. KitKat.

Your app is 4.1, Maybe bump that up to 4.4?

n-gauge··on We ‘may’ have discovered a potential remedy for tinnitus
What I have done in the past (which is a temporary solution) is play a matching frequency from a free phone app and make the volume repeatedly lower and higher for a few minutes.. This cancels out the pitch in my ear for a while.

Sometimes the tinnitus just stops by itself, and this can be for days. I am aware of some triggers for it.

n-gauge··on Firefox has lots of room to improve if it wants to beat Chrome
Could also be down to extra testing costing more $$$ to test and fix within a tight deadline to get the product shipped. I don't think the dev would have agreed to test on just a single browser - more likely a management decision.
n-gauge··on Ask HN: How to recover disabled Facebook account?
if it's just been used for give aways create a new one?
n-gauge··on Google says it’s done making tablets and cancels two unreleased products
As phones have got larger they creep into the tablet space, 10 inch size tablets are tiring to hold, for which a small laptop seems better imo.

n-gauge··on Ask HN: Traveled 10k km for new job and was just shouted at. What do I do?
From your post it's hard to work out if the reason you were shouted at was due to a work issue, or someone being rude?

If it's the later just ignore it, don't let them get your back up; if it's a work issue ask them to explain carmly what was wrong as shouting doesn't solve the problem...

n-gauge··on Ask HN: Traveled 10k km for new job and was just shouted at. What do I do?
Are you in a call center role?
n-gauge··on Ask HN: Do you find it troubling to choose what to wear?
Have 8 hangers: the low four contains trousers (lower nibble), the upper four shirts (upper nibble).

Use you favourite rotate algorithm separately on each nibble, and take lsb of the upper and lower nibbles.

This is the outfit for today.

n-gauge··on GameBoy CPU Manual (2013) [pdf]
One thing I would like to see in a gameboy emulator is the option to record / input from file keypresses so that you can test speedruns or find exploits.

I was thinking this would be trivial for something like a js emulator where you usually have a key array defined for storing keypresses.

If anyone knows of a GB emulator that already allows this please link to my comment.

n-gauge··on Build your own old-school 3D shooter in a weekend
Here's a html / javascript version of simular:

https://htmlgames.github.io/htmlgames/differences/gallery/in...

type something like lego into the search query and it renders pictures of lego in the maze as well.

n-gauge··on See what you can create with 140 characters of JavaScript and a canvas
you could probably golf this classic one with your method:

<div id=B text=snow bgColor=0><script>Ô=setInterval("m='';c=Math.cos;for(ô=0;ô<65;)m+='<p style=position:absolute;top:'+(42+(z=399/(73-(++ô+Ô++&63)))c(ô.9))+'%;left:'+(50+z*c(ô))+(z>>3?'%>.':'%;color:#456>.');B.innerHTML=m",49)</script>

n-gauge··on Show HN: WebRTC signalling data using QR codes
Cool idea, however I could not get it to work with Chrome on a laptop as a host (with the moving qr codes) and a S5 phone (join) also running Chrome pointing at the laptop (it could see the qr codes on the transparent video). It didn't connect.
n-gauge··on Ask HN: How to prevent abuse of free service costing money to website?
Have the text checked by a dictionary and if < 50% (or whatever is needed) fails then don't send the text.
n-gauge··on Ask HN: Where do YOU go to learn about blockchain?
...Delved in with a library book, followed by internet and documentaries.
