mzakharo1··on ESP32 Firmware Development with Docker Sandboxes
We recently added ESP32-C5/C6 support with WiFi to espressif QEMU. Having ability to spin up virtual machines speeds up development quite a bit. We can now take our production firmware image, and run it unmodified on QEMU. No more waiting for boards to flash, spinning up multiple boards instantly. https://github.com/CognitiveSystemsCorp/qemu_esp

mzakharo1··on WiFi Routers Used to Produce 3D Images of Humans
The paper trains a model that a. requires training data in a specific environment. Meaning, to deploy this tech, you need access to the space first to train this model. b. once trained, will not transfer its knowledge if routers are moved, or setup is deployed in a new area. c. training was done with just a single person moving. multiple people moving was not evaluated by this tech/probably harder to achieve. With that in mind, I think privacy-invasion capability of this technology is exaggerated by some comments here.
mzakharo1··on Kivy: Cross-Platform Python Framework for UI Development
Not everyone is trying to display a widget, with data from a remote database. If you work with local/edge data, then having access to numpy/pandas/scikit-learn/pytorch can be quite handy
mzakharo1··on Kivy: Cross-Platform Python Framework for UI Development
What problems did you have with android services? Have been using them without issues (sticky services work well enough), and with python machine learning/scikit-learn, scipy, numpy, pandas, opencv this framework is one of a kind for rapid moibile development if you are doing any kind of edge data processing.

Funny how blaming GIL for being a bottleneck is the least researched/not backed by performance measurement (before/after) part of the article. Everyone loves to hate GIL. maybe there should be T-shirts made for this for the C++ loving folks out there.
mzakharo1··on Daddy, did you need to buy an electric car?
Electric cars need a range extender. Due to lack of imagination on both consumers and manufacturers, this means buying a second ICE car to act as a range extender. Here is an example of planning camping trip on tesla route planner: https://www.tesla.com/en_CA/trips#/?v=M3_2015_74&o=Guelph,%2...

With an ICE, you save over 3 hours of trip time, and modern conveniences of a gas station. Priceless.

Also, women dont rate 'male attractiveness' to the same degree of importance as the other way around. So the distribution is skewed maybe for a different reason: women are asked to match men they 'rate' to pictures they see on public media, and only 20% make it.

Strong encryption is another tool of the rich and powerful to help evade public oversight and scrutiny. Unpopular thought here, cuz, well, most people commenting here are the top wealthy 5-10%, the rich and powerful. It would be a cognitive dissonance to blieve otherwise.

mzakharo1··on Wireless Is a Trap
Are you talking about this?

P.S. SFQ is enabled part of QoS (on my asus86u). There are enough people working on WiFi, you just have to invest money/time to buy/configure proper AP hardware.

In cellular, AP is managed by a team of engineers, and in consumer WiFi space, it is a race to the bottom.

mzakharo1··on Wireless Is a Trap
rt-merlin allows you explicitly to turn the TrendMicro stuff off, TrendMicro is only useful for QoS, and if you have a fat Internet pipe, you probably dont need it.

ASUS-merlin has DNS-over-TLS support, which, combined with NextDNS, will help you block trendmicro off if you really dont trust it.

mzakharo1··on Wireless Is a Trap
Many people dont realize, but WiFi chipset is very important. Get cheap/free stuff from your ISP, and it will give you trouble (especially under load/multiple clients). Buy expensive gear with Broadcomm/Qualcomm hardware in it, and you will be better off. ASUS with rt-merlin firmware is a solid choice.

Also, placement of router is very important. Most people have their wifi in the basement, where their cable/phone line comes in, spending some time, and running a physical wire somewhere to the center of the living space, setting up router on a shelf or a table will go a long way in propagation. I have mine setup in the center of my bungalow, and I have 5Ghz WiFI reaching from my driveway to the backyard, no issues, and never any hickups.

Also, if you pick a high end router (Like ASUS 86U with merlin) -> you get some proper Wifi diagnostic tools built in, like number of packet retransmits, bad FCS, etc, which will help you diagnose your issues.

Multiple people on the same band is not as big of an issue as many claim it is. 5Ghz (no B/G legacy frames), and 80MHz bandwidth ensures that most traffic is very short in actual airtime. Not perfect, but, it is orders of magnitude better than 2.4Ghz, despite there being really only 2 80MHz channels available. There is also, channel 165, which is 20Mhz only, but rarely occupied.

How about Canada funding Geoffrey Hinton's research in machine learning. https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2015/04/17/how-a-toronto-...

Arguably, one of the most improtant breakthroughs of recent history, funded by Canadian citizens/taxes. This has much bigger social/economic impact, especially since we can outsource the job of overspending on military to our neighbours, and attempt to build a more socially just society on money saved.

mzakharo1··on VHDL or Verilog?
Little known in the industry, VHDL struct syntax allows for very neat and concise method to be used, called [Gaisler's method](http://www.gaisler.com/doc/vhdl2proc.pdf). The entire Processor and architecture is written using it (http://www.gaisler.com/index.php/downloads/leongrlib) - and it is fantastic to work with - it feels like a piece of object oriented programming, while using low level language of VHDL. Not sure if anyone has tried to apply Gasler's method to SystemVerilog, but verilog on its own falls quite short in this regard.
