Self described maestro at trolling stupidity with common sense and a second rate hacker. On the lookout for interesting people, companies, or opportunities -- it's subjective if my past comments can satisfy somebody's definition of the no asshole rule.

I like algos and I hate learning interfaces or dealing with unnecessary rigor. Basically, I'm lazy.

If you are working on large scale fraud detection and need someone pathologically motivated but with no experience I go by myaso on keybase. If you are an expert on algorithmic coding theory I also may want to pick your brain at some point. Actually if you have something interesting to say just do so.

You got it totally wrong, I think you need to understand me better. I'm like the internet special forces on the harsh battlefield of the hn forum -- I dodge incoming bullets of political correctness, I roll away from bombs of guidelines of politeness designed to silence discourse, I shoot my enemies with a rifle designed to make them look stupid, I effortlessly lob grenades made of nothing but words, I pick up random wounded allies and I inspire others to keep going. I run faster and faster until momentum gathers and based upon nothing but air I cause the laws of probability to crash and I do it for no benefit to myself -- ok maybe there is some benefit for me ;)

My only fault is that I slay my enemies too efficiently, I had an excellent sparing partner. I will extend an olive branch and make it easy for you. I lied about donating to Terry

You sure like to put words in other people's mouth ;) Please tell me exactly what I'm thinking and what I meant -- I'm burning with curiosity at this point. And maybe together we can iteratively refine it.

But there is value compared to these you list. I respect them but I also think they are foolish to disregard their lives. What was once a person becomes rotting meat. Some people will grieve, others will write eulogies, some will will glorify them to serve some agenda, and others who don't care for such things will treat this for what it is probes and sensors that gave one more piece of hard won information that can maybe be somehow utilized -- maybe it's bad to think like this, so it's important to keep going with good humor.

There is a asymmetry of how they percieve the world and you do -- the difference in available information might not be able to let them make choices that would satisfy your standards.

Heroes die young.
myaso··on Useful Mental Models (2016)
I agree. But I think the value these biases actually provide in helping to understand what is going are more limited than people make them out to be. It's much more powerful to simply internalize the worldview of somebody who knew what they were doing, or several of them -- you're not starting from scratch and you're not using models like a dictionary without knowing how to write.
myaso··on What it’s like to be on the board of a Fortune 500 company
It's always fun to learn about the workings of small systems that have such disproportionate effects on larger systems -- the random articles and comments flowing through HN gave me a better education than what I got in public schooling and university.
myaso··on The day I accidentally killed a little boy
The article reads like a case study on OCD from Brain Lock.

Hope can lead you to a dead end if you're on the wrong path to begin with.
myaso··on Kodak announces ICO, stock jumps 44%
Does this work for governments? If USG launches TrumpChain -- I bet TrumpCoin is taken -- will it save America from becoming a laughing stock for the idk -- like the next 20 years? Will Chinese crypto investors buy in or will they prefer to spend their money within a economy that will probably dominate the rest of this century?
myaso··on Which is the fastest web framework?
How important is speed really? It's not like it's the only parameter you can measure a framework by, just happens to be the only quantifiable one.
myaso··on Kodak announces ICO, stock jumps 44%
So is having an ICO or tagging blockchain to your company name like a holy blessing that brings back failed companies from the dead?
myaso··on Kodak announces ICO, stock jumps 44%
Wasn't this company basically a corpse before?

People have the mistaken belief that the ideal possible world is actually one with no pain. The best solution possible with finite resources is maybe somewhere short of the the best you imagine -- to live is to suffer as they say.

You had shitty leaders I'm sorry about that, but maybe they were trying their best in a difficult situation -- it's probably not all fun choices. Or maybe they were just assholes -- updated.

I do not disagree with you on the "why" -- as Grove said I want to know how? You assume that each person can be trusted to figure this out for themselves -- maybe some people can be, but if you look at the entire population you will end with a distribution where more and more force will need to be used to coerce the fringe elements into compliance -- these fringes can destabilize the entire equilibrium since it might snow ball out of control as more and more people pile on seeing the benefits that it brings.

Yes I was referring to Rakuten -- there are a few more minor players. I'm working off limited data here -- so forgive me for using heuristic estimates. But yes, what are the odds of overcoming that advantage in your opinion? Japan is a odd case and extremely difficult to penetrate for outsiders, that level of insulation doesn't weight the odds in Amazon's favor or anybody else's coming in from the outside.
myaso··on Predictions for 2018 from Rob Zuber, CTO of CircleCI
I refuse to jump on board with micro services based on faith. Docker/k8s are not free actions, in fact you will probably pay dearly using them in a inappropriate context.

Top choice based on a search with finite resources, maybe there is a better top choice if they spend a bit more time -- one that is also more agreeable. I'll return with a question -- Is resisting temptation the path of least resistance? What are the odds that the personality trait you describe also overlaps with the person being in a position of enough authority to actually matter?
myaso··on Show HN: Hooks Data API – Realtime Data about Thousands of Topics Over Webhooks
Nothing firm yet, I really would have to take a look at the data closely. This looks like a practical implementation of the semantic web. You caught me on short notice, I'm going to have to think a bit harder :) This gives me more options and very useful ones at that, since data is a bitch to get -- pardon my language.

Lolz. That's some awesome industrial design -- did they use 1984 as inspiration?

Really cool! Looks like some interesting stuff can be done with this. So I get to passively pick up updates from your channels? I wish there was more stuff like this instead of having the process be powered by people using a app.

But on e-commerce you have large regional players already. Japan, Korea?, India?, China, and probably Indonesia too. I find it hard to believe that Amazon will be able to conquer all or any of these. Saturation in what way? Total amount of goods purchased online increasing gradually over the years? As for for adjacent markets, ok fair enough -- but will they win in everything they try? I don't really think so -- and the more they take on the more Amazon as a whole will be strained.
myaso··on Jeff Bezos' wealth tops 105B dollars, now officially the richest man in history
What about the Saudi King?

It's interesting to see how much Amazon can keep going. Bezos seems like the kind of person who can delegate responsibility extremely effectively -- is there a limit to this or will Amazon start being hobbled by it's own weight.

Really? As a former smoker I don't place cigarettes and software in even remotely the same category. Ok -- question. How will this be enforced? Legal/Medical/Eng have licenses to practice you can lose these licenses. I don't need anybody's approval to write code, all the tools are available for free. You are naive if you think some feel good words on paper can make this work without some force backing these words.

Telling the truth is easy and pleasant -- he would disable his account if that was the case. Prove you are not lying. Link with irrefutable evidence given the constraint of keeping necessary information confidential.

Um, how are they supposed to make money if they don't track you to a certain extent? Do they have flaws? Yes -- it's not funny what kind of things you can target for based AdWords, their internal staff probably aren't creative enough to think up ways in which their tools can be used to inflict misery. Software engineers aren't soldiers, doctors, or civil servants what kind of ethical code do you expect? How will people be held accountable to it? What will happen to these who make transgressions?

Just donated 5$/month, will keep it up for a year at least. PayPal transactions take a bit of time to go through -- the hardest part was filling out the details :(

I really don't have the resources to arbitrarily afford charity, but fuck it -- I spend more money on coffee in a month and it's been too cold to wander around for a while here. It must feel really awful to some people who make 6 figure salaries to part with just a little money to a person who is both talented and likely lived in agony all his life. Maybe some people can start acting like the ubermensch they pretend to be from their libertarian ideology.
