muratmutlu··on Knowing What Feature to Build Next
We're currently using this method on http://www.marvelapp.com to find out users who are willing to upgrade to Pro.

As we're still in the process of building Pro accounts, we wanted to get users who would most likely sign-up first.

We placed a 'notify me' button in the UI, working really well. After around 3 weeks we've over 100 users signup.

I was inspired by Buffer's MVP post a while back, great idea.

keen to hear it! we made it from scratch :)

muratmutlu··on Show HN: Turn images on Dropbox into interactive prototypes
Hey everyone,

We've been working hard on getting our free prototyping tool out of beta and thought it might be a good time to share it with community.

Marvel is a really simple rapid prototyping tool that allows anyone to create interactive clickable/tapable prototypes from images on Dropbox.

Because everything is synced off Dropbox, any change you make to the image is synced and prototypes update automatically.

It's free to use and hopefully it will become a really useful tool for designers, developers, startups, students and anyone else who wants to bring their mobile and web ideas to life.

Would appreciate any feedback!

muratmutlu··on Introducing Backer: crowd funding for features
Ah I see, although wouldn't backers mostly be our users or people who are familiar with our product if it was on our own site funding features?

I think we'd go with credit card option as that's what we plan to use on the site

Either way it's awesome idea congrats on launching

Great idea, can the page be branded under my startups name or is it app.net?

muratmutlu··on Researchers publish Snapchat code allowing phone number matching
Hey Gibsonsecurity,

Just wondering about Snapchat's claim to have 70% users.

Could they have possibly run the names of users through a gender DB to get a rough percentage?

muratmutlu··on Show HN: The Instagram bot we made to market our iPhone app
Hey everyone,

Last year we created our own Instagram bot which automated many of the interactions I went through manually when trying to get people to follow me (liking photos, following users).

It turns out there's a pretty decent reciprocation rate and in turn, thousands of users flooded to my Instagram profile and tapped the link contained on it which was to our iPhone app in the App Store.

We managed to rack up several thousand downloads and my photos hit the Popular page over 40 times

It was a fun experiment, I ran the bot for 9 months and collected all the stats and figures here:

muratmutlu··on Ask HN: How did you finance your start-up?
I hooked up with 2 other co-founders friends that i use to work with.

We worked in our spare-time to get out a really early beta, once we had that and some users I started asking around and networking to find investors.

Took around 3-4 weeks and dozens of meetings to find the right one. Almost took the first offer we got which was a quarter of what we settled for.

Although I used Angel List and F6S, in the end it was a personal intro from a old freelance client that got us the money

muratmutlu··on Note to recruiters
I wrote a post about the different services popping up (aimed at designers mostly, some at devs too) trying to solve the recruiter problem. Might be useful to some

If anyones interested - we made http://www.tuner.io at a hackday in SF last year.

It reorders the Billboard top 100 based on lyrics, so top 5 songs with the most profanity etc.

After the hackday the API access to the services expired, but check it out anyway!

muratmutlu··on Exo: Protein Bars made from Cricket Flour
This doesn't stack up too good against a Met-Rx ProteinPlus bar

However I think the idea is amazing. It's early days for this stuff I'm sure but it has potential. There needs to be tests for absorption of protein etc

muratmutlu··on Rejection, tragedy and billions of dollars – The story of FIFA Video Games
Neither did I, although Pro Evo was gradually declining in quality, after having 2 bad years in a row (they had huge issues with getting online play to work without lag) I think the scene was set for FIFA and suddenly it felt like the tables had turned.

Since then they've been playing catch-up, plus not having the full licenses doesn't help them.

Pro Evo had a lot of character and it felt like you could see their passion for football in the way they made the game. Little details throughout the gameplay were awesome.

I thought EA was a souless corp that didn't have a clue about football, but now they lead the way.

muratmutlu··on Rejection, tragedy and billions of dollars – The story of FIFA Video Games
I'm starting to feel that way too, if I'm immersed in Fifa 13 now I can't imagine what Fifa 2023 will be like
muratmutlu··on Rejection, tragedy and billions of dollars – The story of FIFA Video Games
Konami has the Pro Evolution series which was better than FIFA up until 3/4 years ago when EA completely changed the game mechanics.

I can't ever recall any European publishers making any hit football games, not sure why. You probably won't see any for a long time either such is EA and Konami's dominance

I actually haven't played any football games on a console in the last 6 years that haven't been either Konami or EA.

Sega Virtua Striker went from arcade to console but never took off.
