mrkrab··on U.S. Malaria Donations Saved Almost 2M African Children
And you're cherry picking Muslim countries, when when we talk about starvation in Africa we mean the huge barren between the Muslim countries and South Africa.

We are talking malaria here, what do the Muslim countries have to do with that?

No need to ask: lack of nutritional education and income inequality.
mrkrab··on U.S. Malaria Donations Saved Almost 2M African Children
Moving food to a poor town in the US from somewhere else is a trivial task. Africa has its own set of problems.
mrkrab··on Google is funding the creation of software that writes local news stories
How did you find out that stuff of the google ad id? Especially associating it with past websites.
mrkrab··on Cirque du Soleil acquires Blue Man Group
He didn't complain about this article being here. He asked why 40+ people found it interesting. I share his question, I don't understand what's interesting about this at all, and there's no actual conversation around it here either.
mrkrab··on Photos of Mosul 2017
What else should we talk about in this thread? About how sad it is that nobody wanted to buy her photos, or about how great it is that she's giving them away?

>You imply that as soon as you decide to fight — be it righteous or not — you forfeit your life and it is okay to kill you.

Of course it is. If you choose to fight in a war, you forfeit your life. That's how wars work. You only win a battle by decimating your enemy. How is this bigotry?

Also, you believe your cause to be righteous, and so does your enemy. You both believe your cause to be so righteous, and your enemy to be so menacing to your cause, that you both have decided to go to arms over it.

On the other hand a civilian is a civilian. He didn't choose war, so he doesn't deserve to have his life taken away by a conflict he has no interest in.

It would be. It's unlimited space, not unlimited bandwidth to put things in that space.

Isn't that called "holidays"? We have one month every year by law here. But of course you have to negotiate when they are with your employer.

>The government in capitalist societies can't force someone to open a business when unemployment gets too high

It does all the time, no? At least here, town halls give stupid jobs to people when unemployment is too high. Obviously, the results are catastrofic.

mrkrab··on Amazon and eBay images broken by Photobucket's 'ransom demand'
I don't think anybody cares about the long term service of Photobucket. Everybody knew that was going to happen.

It has happened to all image uploaders in history, and it will keep happening forever, since image uploaders are 1) a money-losing business (people will flee as soon as you stop hotlinking) and 2) have no real value (how much time does it take you to write an image uploader? probably one of the first things you do when you're learning to code for the web)

mrkrab··on Shedding Light on the “Black Box of Inappropriateness”
If you two were alone, you had sex, and you go to a doctor later and there are no signs of violence, how can you prove you actually said "no"? Honest question.
mrkrab··on More than a decade later, how original YouTube stars feel about the site
I agree with you. I think the site caters mostly to children and young teenagers. Most popular videos, those shown on the home page, are of guys talking to a camera loudly and making silly jokes about videogames and current events, or very bad pop music.

And video thumbnails are the most cringy thing you can see on the Internet. http://buyviewsreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/custom-...

It's sad to admit it but I avoid youtube whenever I can.

mrkrab··on The capital sharp S in now part of the official German orthography
That only happens with a handful of words: those that 1) are feminine and 2) their first syllable begins with an "a" and 3) their first syllable is stressed.

It's similar to English which uses "an" instead of "a", but it happens very very very rarely.

(Needless to say, "águila" and "ala" ARE feminine nouns, what's changing here is the determiner so the two a's don't clash, not the gender of the nouns)

mrkrab··on The capital sharp S in now part of the official German orthography
It's really easy, because "keyboard" is "teclado" which ends with o (so it's masculine) while "rock" is "roca" which ends with a (so it's feminine). :)
mrkrab··on The capital sharp S in now part of the official German orthography
What's so bad about gendered nouns? They are quite useful, especially when the language allows you to omit the noun and leave only a pronoun, or maybe the entire subject altogether.
mrkrab··on Welcoming Tech Talent from Around the World to France
You'll take my own language from my cold, dying hands. I'm sure most Europeans feel the same. I'm not going to go around speaking fucking English. That will never ever happen.
mrkrab··on Microsoft is laying off thousands in a major global sales reorganization
Nothing in my post was a joke, because I've seen it happen here in person.

And what's sad, is that anybody with half a brain could've expected the outcome. But of course, there are far too many people in the government who want a slice of cake.

mrkrab··on Microsoft is laying off thousands in a major global sales reorganization
The alternative, in my experience, is that our government spends millions in creating a fork of Ubuntu, which is just regular Ubuntu with a different default set of packages, a custom background, and maybe one or two misc utilities (think of a disk formatter, etc) written in PyGTK which fucking suck.

Obviously, after a few years, they get tired of that rubbish distro, and go back to Microsoft.

Not to mention the fines the state has to pay when school teachers and other civil servants install Windows without licences and get caught.

So, yes, better if they just keep using fucking Windows.

mrkrab··on More Millennials Are Having Strokes
I completely disagree with losing weight "costing nothing". A good diet is usually more expensive than a bad diet. Preparation also requires more time, which is money. Education on what you have to eat, how to cook it, etc. is money too. Exercise requires free time, which is money too. Hence why poor people have higher levels of obesity.
mrkrab··on 6 Corporations Control 90% of the Media in America
In Europe, generally, 1) webmasters are usually responsible of the comments left in their webpages by their users, and 2) webmasters have to make clear what their names and addresses are.

Myself, sometimes I've thought of creating a forum or a community, only to be turned away when I think of that. Do you think 4chan would have ever existed if moot had had to put his real name and address there, and if he was legally responsible of what people published in 4chan? Impossible.

So all online communities will always be concentrated in the US, at least for the foreseeable future. :(
