mr_november··on Air Quality Monitors from USD $169 to $6k use the same low-cost PM Modules
Currently 25% off bringing it to ~$155 so I pulled the trigger.

Was going to buy the air gradient but shipping is not free and is for the awair so difference was negligible.

Would also love to hear why grandparent poster has settled on recommending the awair over others.

mr_november··on Automakers are starting to admit that drivers hate touchscreens
Completely unnecessary and upsetting quote. If you must, just link it with some background instead of quoting a sensationalized headline.
mr_november··on AltTab – Windows alt-tab on macOS
Thank you for this. Have been trying to train my brain to use it for weeks, but as I'm sure you know, the limitation is I have to maintain context of what app I'm using when wanting to window switch whereas a global shortcut a la Cmd + Tab eliminates that bit of overhead.
mr_november··on AltTab – Windows alt-tab on macOS
This is cool but as a long time macOS user who is now on Windows at least half time, I really miss Cmd + Tab application switching when on Windows.

Anyone know of a way to get that behaviour in Windows?

mr_november··on Ride a Bird scooter. Have an accident. Pay a mighty price
Unfortunate that this is the top comment at the moment - there is zero evidence he was impaired at all. Others have quoted the exact lines stating so in the article.

Bird just playing a defamation game, gross.

mr_november··on Show HN: Aeon – a lightweight date picker built with web components
Looks cool, nice work. Couple pieces of feedback:

- typically the check mark/ok button is on the right side and the cancel is on the left, in the date picker it’s swapped

- not clear to me what the 2 different cancel buttons do, one a solid x, the other just an x

mr_november··on Stripe CLI
Not an ideal solution but you may want to look at prepaid credit cards. In my case, I use USD prepaid cards via CIBC for SaaS subs. https://www.cibc.com/en/personal-banking/prepaid/cibc-smart-...
mr_november··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking Freelancer? (June 2019)
SEEKING WORK

Location: Vancouver, BC

Remote: yes

I work with early stage and established businesses to solve their problems through software.

Proficient throughout the stack. Long time Ruby and JavaScript developer. Rails since v2. Communication is a strong suit, both with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Latest project was taking an idea from napkin-stage, speccing and leading development on a non-trivial React Native offline-first iOS app with a Rails backend on a two-man technical team.

Plenty of experience managing deployments on AWS, Heroku, and VPSs. I solve dirty problems that others are loathe to tackle such as upgrading infrastructure/frameworks.

I'm pragmatic with a focus on speed and iteration; the customer/user of the software is always at the forefront of my mind. Two-time founder with one exit.

mr_november··on Ditching the MacBook Pro for a MacBook Air
Do you by chance run a VM? Sample size of 1 I know, but I use external monitors every day and this never happens. It does however happen intermittently if I have a VM running (Ubuntu in Virtual Box).

'Solution' is to suspend the VM before closing the lid.

mr_november··on Developing SaaS? Forget Scrum, Check Out Kanban and Similar Approaches
There are tools to help you with multi repo GitHub issue management. A little bit of a plug but https://codetree.com is built to solve your exact problem - we sync up milestones (and labels) across many repos and allow you to visualize and work with cross-repo issues in either kanban or list view.

> Makes me wonder if there is a market for a release notes platform for keeping customer up to date

There apparently is, we use https://headwayapp.co/ for that.

mr_november··on 4M gmail addresses with passwords leaked (large html file, 150megs)
I've changed the title to reflect the size but there is no story here without the link. What would you have done? I ask not to confront but rather to learn.

I didn't feel completely comfortable posting the link but thought it was better that it's out there (and it looks like it's not even new according to comments).

mr_november··on 4M gmail addresses with passwords leaked (large html file, 150megs)
A friend tells me he was emailed by https://haveibeenpwned.com/, letting him know his details were at that link.
mr_november··on Announcing new tools, forums, and features
Hi - Codetree [1] does a lot of what you're asking for (specifically 3, 5, 6) and I love the other stuff you mention, we've been thinking hard on a couple of them. Would love to quickly chat about your workflow just to learn, not to sell, if you can spare the 15 mins. If you're interested shoot me an email at arif@codetree.com.

mr_november··on Announcing new tools, forums, and features
Codetree [1] addresses the multi-repo issues problem you mention, we roll up as many repos as you want under one 'project' which you can view in either table or kanban board style.

We also add a host of project management functionality on top of GitHub issues like advanced filtering/sorting, dependency tracking, and the ability to setup your own dev/release workflow.

mr_november··on Vim 8.0 is coming
Not a real answer to your question, but for the last number of years I've been using Command-t (https://github.com/wincent/command-t) and after the initial index operation, it's super quick.
mr_november··on Show HN: LevelUp.pm – Evergreen Product Management Resources
One of the 3 guys behind the site here, please send any questions or even better, more resources our way so we can provide them for the community.

We built this because we didn't see much in the way of canonical resources for product managers looking to get better at what they do. So here it is, from the top product managers out there.

Its got 120+ articles, books, podcasts, etc - all categorized - to help PMs level up their game.

mr_november··on Without affordable housing, Vancouver risks becoming an economic ghost town
Low avg income in Vancouver is unique vs the other cities you cite. Much lower. Apparently ~$44k in 2009[1]

[1] http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/home-and-garden/real-est...

mr_november··on Without affordable housing, Vancouver risks becoming an economic ghost town
The west end is the west part of downtown. You are talking about the west side, and in fact, not even the west side, but west of Alma, which is waaaay out there. Super west side.

This 'academic case study' you linked to is cited over and over however, no one really looks at the actual data in it, namely where the homes are. It's literally a tiny pocket, which has the most expensive homes in the whole city, so yes, it's primarily Asian buyers. Not that surprising.

Don't get me wrong - there is a real problem here but that study is repurposed over and over to show the extent of the problem and it's very misleading.

mr_november··on Affordable adjustable standing desk
Any luck with those photos reboot? I'm building a desk myself and have found that a shorter desk than typical has been a game changer for rsi issues I had. Would be very interested in seeing what you've done.
mr_november··on Ask HN: How do you transfer money internationally?
$9 is for a USD business account - your $0.50 is likely for a personal account.
mr_november··on Firefox 31.0
Just did this, thanks for the tip, hopefully this has some effect.
mr_november··on Firefox 31.0
I want to use Firefox (OS X), and with almost every release I give it a go but it's simply too slow in comparison to Chrome.

I'm talking about actions you do multiple times an hour - opening a new tab, closing a tab, rearranging tabs etc.

This is with no extensions in use, on a mid-2011 fully specced out macbook air.

It's unfortunate but the lag is clear and I can't use it as my primary when I know a better solution is right in front of me, that being Chrome.

mr_november··on Announcing mails_viewer - easiest way to test mails in Rails app
So there is, thanks. Chrome on Android doesn't show the top div, which is odd.
mr_november··on Announcing mails_viewer - easiest way to test mails in Rails app
Nice. Is this closed source? Can you tell me what it adds on top of tomlion's code? Don't see anything about that in the readme. Thanks
