this compilation of video links uses real player (.rm) and .wmv and every godforsaken format there is. If you are on windows, you can convert them using winx which is free this oktober. http://www.winxdvd.com/specialoffer/sep0902.htm or you can use ffmpeg (linux/mac).
morphir··on I'm 20, brilliant and totally lost
I think this article roots to the kids narcissism - just because you have an high IQ, does not mean you will become somewhat more important, more powerful or more successful than "Joe the plumber". Let me ask you this: Was Godel happy? Was Alan Turing happy? Even though they both were brilliant and had academic success, still - their personal lives was pretty much a sad state of affairs, and depression characterized their lives. Brilliance and success is not happiness. You are 20 (!) - I was around 25 before I found my academic passion, which by that gave me a inner calm. I wish you the best of luck. But to expect every piece to fall at place at the age of 20 is plain naive, actually a bit provoking. In addition to the large tasks here in life (like education and career) the small enjoyments like coffee in the morning, listening to the birds, getting a proper workout - is what keeps you smiling, or at least, it's what makes my day swell.

I praise you for these insightful words of wisdom. Thank you.
morphir··on The curious pricing of the 27" iMac
all mass production companies have products that fail now and then. But ok, what computer/brand would you recommend?
morphir··on The curious pricing of the 27" iMac
when I got my Macbook Alu - I got baffled by its high quality and sleekness. The 13" Macbook Alu was a bargain relative to its quality. When I experienced the unboxing, I felt like a 16 year old virgin girl..and I'm a boy.. ehehe

One year later - and there are still no other company that can offer a similar high quality laptop. Thinkpad has pretty much crashed and burned after china got their hands the product management.

I guarantee you that this 27" will provide a first time apple owner with a unboxing experience you will never forget. It will simply raise the bar for how you perceive quality.

morphir··on Ask HN: Any designers here in for a rushjob on a fun project ?
Let us hear how big the splash got.

Drupals founder, Dries Buytaert got some reflections on this too. http://buytaert.net/whitehouse-gov-using-drupal
morphir··on Scheme hits the App Store
3> (define x (lambda (y) (* 2 y))) * WARNING -- defining global variable: x 3> x Bus error

Gambit v4.5.2 OSX 10.5

Of course, I do know that x should not be evaluated. For that have to type (x 3). But its still annoying, and very unnecessary. In DrScheme/PLT I get a: > x #<procedure:x> Explicitly telling me its a procedure.

morphir··on Scheme hits the App Store
thanks for the heads up JazzScheme. I am gonna give that IDE a try.
morphir··on Scheme hits the App Store
when I play around with Gambit (gsi) I often end up with bus errors. This implies the word: 'half-assed' to me. So that is directly annoying and will guaranteed put new users off. Crashing is never good.
morphir··on Scheme hits the App Store
In general. Who has the best performance? Who has the best ffi support? The most and best library support? Does anyone have a success story (case study)? Does anyone offer a painfree setup? Chicken is BSD, while Gambit i GPL - so chicken maybe preferred for its less restrictive lisence?
morphir··on Scheme hits the App Store
how is Gambit compared to Chicken?
morphir··on Why We Need a Theory for Software Engineering
what is TA?
morphir··on How Would Einstein Use E-mail?
I have always wondered what Operating System Einstein would prefer. :/

If you base your argument on his famous quote:

"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."

Then I suppose some *nix variant.. maybe netbsd?

morphir··on Linus says Linux has become 'bloated and huge'
who of them should have had on the t-shirt *Im_with_stupid ?
morphir··on Academic software for research papers
meh. ls -l works just fine ;)
morphir··on Context driven scheme
This conceptual architecture borrows much from DCI. But my take on context driven code makes more sense in my head than a pure DCI would..
morphir··on Never mind the language, the programmer is what matters
just the level of entangled abstraction that C++ can bring to your project is staggering.
morphir··on 50 Cent's 10 lessons for success in business - and in life
I got problems with the word 'self-help'. Since you usually receive such 'self-help' knowledge through books, movies etc. which is like regular help. If you however figure out to do something yourself, without that book or movie, THEN its self-help. Please let use the language we a all agreed upon.
morphir··on The end of dumb software
This has been solved. The solution is called DCI. Data Context Interaction. A new paradigm where you design your software according to the end users mental model. Understand DCI and you should be able to craft software that makes more sense per usability. Trygve Reenskaug has explained why the traditional MVC is flawed.

morphir··on Want to Remember Everything You'll Ever Learn? Surrender to This Algorithm
I recently heard that newly educated teachers come to schools with a strong desire to teach their specialties. And to transmit some of their true passion over to their students. But since being a teacher (here in Norway) means they have to administrate and organize the kids so much, they have little energy left for teaching. Meaning the teacher appears as a boring, pale fuck (not very inspiring). This is of course a organizational problem, and not a pedagogical one.
morphir··on Erik Naggum, 1965-2009 RIP
afaik he was not much of a contributor to the open source arena. He was however one of very few lisp programmers who had a job, programming in lisp. Someone pointed out that he wrote a billing system among other.
morphir··on [dead]
I believe it was James Coplien who first used this analogy. It's a funny analogy, indeed.

Agility is really all about realising the 'Use Case' as fast as possible. Thats it!
