I don't have any experience with either.

I believe it was James Coplien who first used this analogy. It's a funny analogy, indeed.

Agility is really all about realising the 'Use Case' as fast as possible. Thats it!

You do it a lot, sometimes all day long.

You don't always know what you're doing, but who cares?

You really love doing it.

You do it alone.

No matter how tired your hands get, you keep on going.

You know it's going to be messy, but you can always clean it up later.

You're not sure always sure what you're trying for, but you definitely know when you're done.

So is enterprise software. You make one mistake and you're stuck supporting it for the next 18 years.

And it's so much better when it finally starts involving other people besides yourself.

I remember pair programming once. It was great -- we did a day's worth of work in two weeks, agreed on all the variable names, and were really sure that 2 plus 2 was 4.
