morph123··on OpenAI delays launch of custom GPT store until early 2024
I guess. I assume the OpenAI vision, in the short term, is for there to be a beefy LLM on top that can call the correct sub LLMs that have more bespoke knowledge about random things, and sort of orchestrate an answer based on that.

Not sure why OpenAI feels the need to pay people for this though, I guess to incentivize use?

morph123··on OpenAI delays launch of custom GPT store until early 2024
Still dont understand why anyone would "pay" for this. The default model will probably be better in pretty much all cases. I guess if someone randomly has some sort of esoteric knowledge? Seems very limited.
morph123··on My techno-optimism
This «merge with the ai» thing never makes any sense. What possible improvement would a hunan provide a super intelligent AI in some merge operation?

Ideas are, will be, and always has been, worthless on their own.
morph123··on OpenAI staff threaten to quit unless board resigns
These boys will not be your rank and file employees. They will operate exactly as they have done in OpenAI. Only difference will be that they no longer have this weird "non-profit, but actually some profit" thing going on.
morph123··on OpenAI Board Being Pressed by Some Investors to Reinstate Altman
These investors must be very dumb. Like pushing toothpaste back in the tube.
morph123··on Altman was raising billions from Middle East sovereign funds for AI chip startup
You think life was better before oil?
morph123··on No "malfeasance" behind Sam Altman's firing, OpenAI memo says
As smart as the people are at OpenAI they sure do some incredibly stupid things.

I guess it proves that this "company" is ran by scientists and not business people, which I guess is reassuring?

morph123··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
Haha yeah they are kicking out the CEO of their most profitable venture because he uses a mac.
morph123··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
It is a shame. Altman always seemed like his heart was in the right place with this stuff.

Much prefer him to the deepmind people who seem almost psychopathic by comparison.

morph123··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
This is the craziest thing I have ever seen.
morph123··on Emu Video and Emu Edit, our latest generative AI research milestones
I wonder how far away we are from "make a movie from a sentence".

2030?

Also why do these AI people always end with "this does not replace anyone". Surely they do not believe this?

What things are «designed for» and what they end up being are often not 1 to 1.
morph123··on Ask HN: Was programming more interesting when memory usage was a concern?
I do want to get into that but where I am at embedded computing jobs are kind of rare. I do like programming in C quite a bit.
morph123··on Ask HN: Was programming more interesting when memory usage was a concern?
I guess a bit of both. Managing memory itself is not that interesting as it is just mostly a nice shotgun to shoot yourself in the foot with. I just like the idea of working in a more limited environment where I am forced to come up with perhaps more novel solutions than what my job is now which is just stiching together random libraries and creating unnecessarily complicated SQL queries.
morph123··on Java 20 / JDK 20: General Availability
This feels a bit like discussing the new fancy garden hoe as a farm hand as they are making the tractor.
morph123··on What is the impact of Chat GPT-4 going to be and what can you build
Honestly, I was expecting it to be better at programming than it is. It still struggles with novel sort of esoteric solutions. I figured this would quite literally kill programming, I guess 5 will.
morph123··on Ask HN: Future Career Moves
For what its worth, I hope you are right.
morph123··on Ask HN: GPT4 is not a finished product. Was OpenAI worried about competition?
There are three ways to reliably make money in business. Be first, be smarter or cheat.

OpenAI is not significantly if at all smarter than Google, and you can`t really cheat in this situation so therefore it is easiest to be first.

morph123··on What is the impact of Chat GPT-4 going to be and what can you build
I dont see it making full stack apps from one command that arent your garden variety mickey mouse applications that nobody cares about.

I think for now it will allow people to do more with less, but will not really change things that much. Obviously this will change as the years go by, but for now I am honestly a bit disappointed by gpt4. I was expecting more.

morph123··on Ask HN: Why do students still hand write notes?
I usually write nodes on a nodepad, pen and paper. I hate computers and I tend to remember stuff better when I write it down.
morph123··on You can earn money with your AI prompts
How is it proven, the answer is non-deterministic. It will probably be good but there is no guarantee. I just do not understand how you are unable to literally google god, unless you literally have no concept of how to write words.
morph123··on You can earn money with your AI prompts
What sort of moron needs to pay someone for a GPT prompt??
morph123··on Ask HN: Are you willing to contribute to OpenAI Evals?
I think you are a massive idiot if you for some reason want to help these people. May as well give Bill Gates 10 bucks while you are at it.
morph123··on Ask HN: After GPT4 Livestream. Are you inspired or ready to quit dev job?
I think our days were numbered anyway. Honestly if anything this presentation was somewhat underwhelming in that sense. I expected a bit more.
morph123··on Ask HN: What will be future software job market be like in 10 years cuz of AI?
Of course I do. Once you have an entity that is 100x cheaper and better why use a human? Is GPT-4 the one to do it? Probably not, but there is GPT-5,6,7,8...

I think in general large software organizations that do not act as a platform for AI will surely die, they will no longer provide anything of value.

Only way to be sure that you can have a job for now is to be a tradesman, I reckon you got at least a decade longer in that gig. After that it is game over obviously.

morph123··on Meta plans to lay off 10k employees
Ideas are meaningless, execution is everything.
morph123··on Meta plans to lay off 10k employees
Meta still has so much talent, especially in the AI space. I consider them probably just as talented as the deepmind folks, if not more so. They can still achieve world domination for sure.
morph123··on Show HN: SchemafreeSQL – Data, Fluid as Code
Why do people hate schemas so much? It is as silly as hating types in programming languages. It helps you to avoid doing stupid stuff.
