moominpapa··on Artemis II safely splashes down
More than 50 years since the first lunar landing, and there's excitement over this?
moominpapa··on Ireland shuts last coal plant, becomes 15th coal-free country in Europe (2025)
The only conflation is coming from you - the first question was not rhetorical, the second was, hence the link sent with it. If asking questions is obnoxious, I suggest you get out more. I am finished explaining.
moominpapa··on Ireland shuts last coal plant, becomes 15th coal-free country in Europe (2025)
Not particularly, just wanted you to stick to the point. I care for my own people and am concerned by the economic suicide it seems intent on committing driven by climate cult zealots and whatever influences lie behind it. Got a feeling you like the last word, so off you go, I won't be replying.

What have you assumed was my original position and why is that relevant when my next rhetorical question was a follow up to being asked if I had any other questions?

This is getting tedious now. The basic facts are China has something like 1200 coal powered stations and is still building more. I would not congratulate myself just because my cigarette to beer ratio was dropping if only because I was drinking alot more beer but hadn't increased my smoking by as much.

Obsolete, and yet China keep building coal power stations

I said China

It doesn't invalidate anything, China are still building coal power stations whilst Ireland have none.

Good luck with that strategy. Might have worked for suicidal Western Europe, but a snowball's chance for China.

Meant to say, it seems like China need to get some people over from Ireland to help them out

Not sure how this refutes my rhetorical question whether China are building more coal power stations. Nothing disingenuous about giving an answer deliberately picked from a source favourable to the carbon scare mongerers. As for obnoxious, I replied in the manner the question was asked.

At 1.6% per year, how long until China closes its last power station do you think?

My point was completely about Ireland

What projects is it cheaper for? And why will coal be obsolete in 10 years time?

So are China, generally shifting away from coal?

Was Ireland's air particularly polluted?

Meanwhile China has 1200 of them - well done Ireland I'm sure they will follow your lead once they get around to it.
moominpapa··on AI isn't replacing jobs. AI spending is
Lost my previous job not to AI but to a pincer movement of Indians taking up positions here in the UK effectively forming a bridgehead to subsequently have the non-management roles outsourced to India. From purely my own anecdotal experience, I found my Indian coworkers very friendly when I could provide something, but once they had the whip hand their attitude was markedly different.
moominpapa··on Ireland is making basic income for artists program permanent
Yes, it was the use of the word xenophobic which I do not feel was justified, and considering the huge changes to Ireland's demographics brought about by immigration, it felt particularly harsh. I do appreciate you meant by extension of the fact you need to be from the area.

Personally, I have some sympathy with these types of laws. As someone whose home town in the UK became greatly gentrified before I was able to get on the housing ladder, I find myself living a little way out from where I want to be. Some people are "Anywheres" whilst others are "Somewheres". I am very much a "Somewhere" and need to be based around where I grew up and where my early memories reside. My sister is an "Anywhere" and lives in sunnier climes, apparently with no sentiment for where she grew up.

What "Anywheres" tend to take for granted is they usually have a somewhere they can go back to, but the displaced "Somewhere" does not.

BTW, I certainly did not mean to imply anything about your use of a public purse.

You have also made a comment in this thread that the Irish policy of building in the countryside is xenophobic, which considering the major changes to the demography of Ireland in recent times feels quite ungracious.
moominpapa··on Ireland is making basic income for artists program permanent
If I decided to move to another country, I would feel it the height of bad manners to expect anything from a state I had paid nothing in to.
moominpapa··on Ireland is making basic income for artists program permanent
That's just what we need, artists as wards of the state. Things are beginning to feel rather Soviet these days.
moominpapa··on Denmark to raise retirement age to 70
Yes,people were living longer, but let's see how that looks in 10 years time. Who wants to be working in their late 60s anyway? And by working I mean having to work. If you are not working to feed and house yourself and dependents then you are not working you are choosing to work which is not work as far as I am concerned.

Good luck Niall. Please come back in 10 years time and reread your article and let us know how you feel about it.

moominpapa··on What happens to your online accounts when you die?
You are going to die at some point. Some one I know died not that long ago and the church for his funeral was packed-full and there were people outside - now his grave is a forgotten mound of dirt. Do something that will help the human race, it is the only thing we can do
moominpapa··on Everyone knows your location: tracking myself down through in-app ads
I really find this fascinating - great article. As an experiment if you like, can anyone identify anything about me from this post? And if not, why not? Would love to know.

moominpapa··on Life lessons from the first half-century of my career
Gut instinct perhaps. Maybe the author is best placed to answer. Happy to believe there is a human there. Just have a few questions.
moominpapa··on Life lessons from the first half-century of my career
Was this actually written by a human being? I made it halfway through with eyes glazing and gave up. I would love to hear from the human that wrote this.
