Blargg's Blip Buffer library is a widely-used implementation (especially in chip music synthesis), explained in detail here: https://www.slack.net/~ant/bl-synth/

Product designers are going to experiment...Vote with your feet. Don't use horrible products. The only thing worse would be EU mandated progress bars
montag··on The <select> element can now be customized with CSS
I may not agree with your ugly scrollbars, but I will defend your right to style them.

(If you want to annoy your users, that's your prerogative)

montag··on Better Shell History Search
I'm ok with dupes. But cross-linking should at least be automatic.
montag··on Google’s two-year frenzy to catch up with OpenAI
Do you have a source for this “quota system”
montag··on Google’s two-year frenzy to catch up with OpenAI
Do you have a source for that last statement?
montag··on Cottagecore Programmers
Sometimes I feel more accomplished after sweeping the floor than I do after a whole day grinding in an IDE...
montag··on The Prospero Challenge
Impressive. Did you do all this in the past 2 hours?
montag··on Triforce – a beamformer for Apple Silicon laptops
Is it the same story with the Apple touchpad? Is the fancy palm rejection implemented completely in software?
montag··on The Frontend Treadmill
imo, the Webpack situation is worse. React's evolution has been more incremental/cumulative. Best practices evolve, but not too much truly needs to be forgotten.
montag··on Apple's Software Quality Crisis
Yeah, especially if the touchpad worked flawlessly too. A distant dream
montag··on Apple's Software Quality Crisis
I'm just glad we've moved beyond SwitchResX...
montag··on Finnegans Wake Extensible Elucidation Treasury
I have no interest in the subject matter, but there's really nothing like the aesthetic of a 20 year passion project. Awesome
montag··on EA Open Sources Command and Conquer: Red Alert, along with other games
I heard this line of code `Sound_Effect(VOC_TANYA_LAUGH, Coord);`
montag··on Surface-Stable Fractal Dither on Playdate
This is a cool novel technique for sure, but for some reason I’m just not aesthetically in love with it. The fact that the pattern is surface aligned just…doesn’t add anything over dithering in screen space. And I really loved the dithering in Return of Obra Dinn. Is it just me?
montag··on Some terminal frustrations
Haha. “The developers thought of everything” (not really though)
montag··on The 22-Year-Old Who Unlocked the Secrets of Ancient Rome
Rumor has it he's one of the engineers on the DOGE team.
montag··on Enhancing your MIDI devices with Perl
Why “TFA” instead of just “the article”? I understand “RTFA”, berating commenters who didn’t “read the fucking article” with a cheeky acronym, but TFA by itself is kind of hostile for no reason. Unless you hated the article that much
montag··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
Yeah, I mentioned 三体 in a parent comment. It's a great counterpoint to the "high fructose" Netflix version. And interesting to see the American character portrayed by an American actor...dubbed by a Chinese voice actor. (Just be prepared to fast-forward the musical interludes.)
montag··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
Well, there's Three Body Problem (I watched the Chinese 三体 series) – but I guess the exception proves the rule.
montag··on TikTok preparing for U.S. shut-off on Sunday
Waiting for Trump to take office to cut a deal.
montag··on TikTok preparing for U.S. shut-off on Sunday
Almost nobody uses a VPN here, just the geeks and people who need it for their corporate job. We're not used to this at all.
montag··on Nobody cares
It's not necessarily that complicated. My mom likes to complain that the person who designed her new stove never cooked in their life. I think the simpler explanation is that the person who designed that ramp arrangement didn't cycle very much and just wasn't empathetic to riders flying down the hill. In other words, they didn't care.
montag··on Nobody cares
Y'all seem to willfully miss the point.

A lot of people are just not very conscientious.

montag··on Creates hyper-realistic voice clones from just 3 seconds of audio
Yep, this is a real Star Trek TNG episode, S4 E3 “Brothers”
montag··on Stimulation Clicker
It was hard to tell how many points I was getting from crypto. But it went to the top of the list on Screen Time
montag··on Ghost artists on Spotify
I think something like that would be easily detected and penalized. Might explain why you don't see it any more
montag··on Ghost artists on Spotify
I would pay a premium for a music service that excludes "volume plays"
montag··on Ghost artists on Spotify
I know, right??
montag··on What we know about CEO shooting suspect
My take is that this is on a separate Ruby Ridge/anarchist axis. Hostile toward authority, they believe government (i.e. both political parties) and power structures are inherently corrupt. These beliefs have little to do with Democrat or Republican politics, but happen to align more with the right on a few issues (like gun control).
