mitjak··on There is only one Cloud Icon in the Entire Universe
That's how 5 year olds draw clouds.
mitjak··on Steve Jobs, BMW & eBay
Thanks! That is the best picture of Steve I've seen thus far.
mitjak··on Plink, a multiplayer HTML5 music game
I can't stress #2 enough: it's extremely difficult to do any complex playing without keyboard mapping. Try doing a disco hihat, a tom roll, or a repeating bassline pattern.
mitjak··on Donatello, a pure CSS drawing library
I personally never even made the turtles connection and assumed that, since they are drawing libraries, they are surely referring to the artists.
mitjak··on Netflix Secures Streaming Deal With DreamWorks
DreamWorks Animation, not DreamWorks. That's a much smaller subset of the DreamWorks catalogue. Link bait.
mitjak··on [dead]
It's still the next major OS release, regardless of the price.
mitjak··on $99 TouchPad a hit, as Ubuntu and Android ports emerge
Man, I wish she stopped talking in that tone. "#staycoolmybabies" shudder
mitjak··on Microsoft UI has officially entered the realm of self-parody
They should ideally not be the only ones designing it.
mitjak··on Microsoft UI has officially entered the realm of self-parody
To add to the other voices here, it's massively popular in Eastern Europe not so much as a computer replacement but as a symbol of wealth, regardless of whether you actually possess any.
mitjak··on Microsoft UI has officially entered the realm of self-parody
Actually, I think you missed the point of the article instead. It never argued that having buttons for common functions is bad but instead that some of the most bizarre and rarely used functions, e.g. Invert Selection, are showing up in a major UI element targeted largely at novice users.
mitjak··on Microsoft UI has officially entered the realm of self-parody
Sounds like a potentially useful experience but, what does a development lead have to do with designing good UI?
mitjak··on Microsoft UI has officially entered the realm of self-parody
Are you referring to tapping and holding images to save them to the library?
mitjak··on Improvements in Windows Explorer - Building Windows 8
Why can't I ever find anyone who liked it then? Everyone in my family and non-geeky friends are struggling to find anything on the ribbon or are complaining it takes entirely too long to find something that was just fine living in the menu.
mitjak··on Improvements in Windows Explorer - Building Windows 8
Is something like this better?

If so, that view has been available in Finder since at least the first version of OS X I've used which would be 10.3 Panther. These days there are 4 different view you could browse files with in Finder: regular icons, cover flow (does anybody use this ever, by the way? it's the most long-winded, annoying and imprecise to browse anything including photos), column view and hierarchical view.

mitjak··on Learn Vim Progressively
…which is particularly easy to press if you remap Caps Lock to be another Ctrl.
mitjak··on $99 TouchPad a hit, as Ubuntu and Android ports emerge
Is HP ceasing production of these yet?
mitjak··on Why every programmer should have a Tiddlywiki
Another vote. Easily editable, searchable via Spotlight or similar solutions; easy to present in a formatted way especially if you keep notes in Markdown; easy to edit on the go with something like PlainText (http://www.hogbaysoftware.com/products/plaintext); and, of course, easy to have available anywhere with Dropbox.
mitjak··on The curious case of DuckDuckGo
If you're using Chrome's omni bar to search, you can permanently append that query parameter in the search engine settings in the preferences to avoid having to specify it explicitly.
mitjak··on What is in your .vimrc
I don't have much to add to the thread except for:

    set undofile
which will allow for persistent undo, i.e. undoing changes even after closing a file.
mitjak··on What is in your .vimrc
<Ctrl-C> works the same as <Esc> and does the same job of jumping back into normal mode.
mitjak··on Building Windows 8
What exactly are they rethinking? To me it looks like a desperate attempt to catch up with the tablet trend without leaving their massive existing customer base out in the cold.
mitjak··on Building Windows 8
Indeed, a very long-winded way to say "don't forget about us, we are working on something".
mitjak··on Show HN: My weekend project - preview TV sizes on your wall
I cannot do both!
mitjak··on Please rate my startup: ZigzagCloud - A Mobile File Management System.
This is Hacker News. schappim came to ask for critique of his website. I have provided critique and pointed out mistakes in the website. There's a chance I'm wrong but I think I've provided exactly what the author was looking for when he posted the link here.
mitjak··on Please rate my startup: ZigzagCloud - A Mobile File Management System.
I'm not the target audience but wanted to chime in with a few things about the design and copy:

* Why is the iPhone 3 times larger than an iPad? I got a little confused the first time the site loaded trying to figure out what the giant black device behind the iPad is.

* "Signup Now". English isn't my native language but I'm fairly certain "signup" is a noun, and you want the verb or "sign up" instead

* "Zigzag Cloud has powered built-in analytics". Powered by what? Or is it "powerful"?

* Love the logo and the colour scheme of the site!!

mitjak··on PragProg CoffeeScript Book Released
But people will still find it through search engines if you write it up on your blog and link to it from here.
mitjak··on PHP to deprecate MySQL extension
What is so difficult to imagine about an Ubuntu machine running server software?
mitjak··on Spotify launches in the US
Looks like all these are dead :/
mitjak··on Explaining Google+ To The Norms
Perhaps because it's not that funny?
mitjak··on Evolving the Node.js Brand
Completely agree on "nodeo" (first thing I thought the logo spelt out), plus the spacing between the letters could probably be decreased a bit more as well.
