mindcreek··on Qualcomm KeyMaster keys extracted directly from TrustZone
"Inside, the 5c packs the same Apple A6 processor featured in the iPhone 5, a Qualcomm MDM9615M LTE modem, and a Qualcomm WTR1605L LTE/HSPA+/CDMA2K/TDSCDMA/EDGE/GPS transceiver. The back of the logic board features assorted power management, flash, and controller components from Toshiba, Qualcomm, and Broadcom, as well as a Murata Wi-Fi module. "

mindcreek··on Bitcoin Payment Processor BitPay Loses $1.8M in Phishing Hack
I don't believe the story.
mindcreek··on Navdy
Ok, nifty device, but what happens when you have a collusion or an accident and that device in front of your head starts flying around ?

I don't want to destroy their hype bu they should really give that problem some thought.

mindcreek··on FPGA and Xeon combined in one socket
Hmm, this might have implications for digital currencies and their mining.
mindcreek··on JP Morgan: Bitcoin is “vastly inferior” to traditional, fiat currency
jpmorgan has an aggressive stance against bitcoin for a while now. I wonder what is behind their continuous negative statements about bitcoin, if you don't like it just don't use it, it's not like we are pushing bitcoins down their throats or stg :)

mindcreek··on Anatomy of the Great Adderall Drought
I live in Turkey and I am using concerta for about 5 years now, if you have ADHD the drug calms you and makes focusing and completing tasks easy, it also unfortunately makes you immune to coffee no matter how much coffee you drink, you can still drink more :).

When somone without ADHD uses the drug it causes tachycardia, high blood pressure, restlessness and sometimes paranoia, not all of them though, it migth be a recreational drug to someone but I need it to function in my daily life and I'm not using it to have fun in any way, I had periods ( at most 6 months) which, I had not taken any concerta of methylphenidate derivative and results were not good for my productivity.

It is also a type II controlled substance here in Turkey You are prescribed one pill for one day and you cannot have more even if you want to, but we dont have any quotas on the precursors and drug use in Turkey is very low considering Europe and US.

mindcreek··on Istanbul Isiklarius traffic lights
I think you are talking about somewhere in India or Thailand or something, I drive in Istanbul for the last umm, 12 years and never missed a red light intentionally and saw maybe ten or fifteen idiots that does not care about the red light.

Btw did you visit Istanbul in the end of 80's I believe it was the only time The city was packed enough and that situation maybe seen because I can remember those times, now its different though many of the traffic lights have cameras that trigger with a red light pass, even there were accidents the first few months cameras were installed people were braking harder than usual to make sure they stop :)

As for deadlocks, Istanbul transport authority changed thousands of streets to one way or changed the rules of many areas to stop that in the last 5 years, when were you last in Istanbul seriously :) ?

And police does care, if you are involved in a red light violation and police is around you are not screwed but definitely get a ticket.

mindcreek··on Unlike proprietary software, why is it difficult to sell Open source software
I also would like to know more about the problem you face in GPL , GPL is meant to be as free as possible which moral obligation in your part is distressed by GPL?
mindcreek··on My dalliance with smart drugs - and the lesson I learned
36 mg concerta daily in the morning it usually keeps me on 12 hours or so.

or a 10mg ritalin which keeps the effect about 5 hours or so so I can take another if it will be a long nigth, taking concerta in the nigth is not a good idea because you will burn out and wont be able to sleep if you decide to.

Concerta is a small container with a laser drilled hole and a constant delivery mechanism for 12 hours or so and ritalin is bumpier on the dosage but concerta is more expensive about 120$ in Turkey for a month worth refill where ritalin is only 20$ for a month excluding the doctors fee which is 150$ so it costs around 200$ for a month and no insurance scheme covers it.

mindcreek··on My dalliance with smart drugs - and the lesson I learned
I'm dyslexic, I cannot write with a pen and even though my discrete math is good I struggled throughout my school life and computer science degree with calculus and differentials etc.

In my second year in university one of my teachers suggested to me I might be dyslexic and later I found a professor in an university hospital who deals with ADD and dyslexia in younger patients. She suggested to me Ritalin and then concerta which I didn't want to use then, after school when I really needed the 6-7 hour coding marathons for the projects I'm working on I strated using concerta and ritalin here is my experience.

1. My concentration is longer and more productive, the urge to continuously get up and do something else is gone. 2. As far as 3 years go I had no noticeable side effects, I asked my doctor about it and he told me methylfenidaat hydroclorine which is the active ingredient in both drugs is considered to safe and no long term effect are observed to date(about 20 years or so) 3. The drugs do not cause addiction because I had periods without the drugs one 6 months one three months just to prove myself I can do without them so far both were uneventful Except I went back to my old self. 4. My IQ or creativity seems unaffected by the drug I'm always the same. 5. I was forgetting little things my keys wallet phone back then after the drugs I don't. 6. If I forget to take the drug my wife or colleagues ask me If I forgot to take my pills today, so the difference is noticeable from the outside. 7. Both drugs are strictly controlled substances in Turkey so I have to struggle with bureaucracy every month for refills, renewals.

Thanks for reading If you have any question I'll try to check the comments later.

mindcreek··on Why Pixar uses Microsoft's Azure
Nothing in the article says anything about Pixar using Azure other than a proof of concept and gives no answer to the leading question.

Pixar is founded by George Lucas then bought and nurtured by Steve Jobs though :)

mindcreek··on Babylon 5 & the Great War of Java
Yea it is time to rewatch babylon 5 .

Java is not a great language but scalability, cross platform and corporate support made it what it is today, if the company behind Java leaves it alone, in time less and less people will choose it in long term mission critical deployments, then it will die.

Or maybe another language will rise after the death of java which can be better in the long term.

I am both happy and sad that java is dying.

mindcreek··on Desktop Linux: The Dream Is Dead
The guy states the points about why an operating system cannot generate revenue, but he misses the point that Linux distributions does not need to generate revenue.

It's total flame-bait, the guy needs the attention and tries to get it by half-ass disguised trolling.

Carefully added note under the story does not change my opinion of a barking dog under the wrong tree.

Precious minutes of my life wasted on reading unworthy crap.

mindcreek··on ‘Angry Birds’ Developer: We Have Not Sold To EA
I wonder If EA knows the independent developer owns the Angry Birds part, If not they have a couple angry EA managers pulling out hair and asking themselves now "How did we missed that?" :)
mindcreek··on IDE WTF
just learn to use a good text editor like emacs or vim, I use emacs and it fits me like glow whatever text based activity I am currently engaging at that moment.

And yes there can be better IDEs but I wont be using them.

mindcreek··on Ask HN: Good books?
Peter F. Hamilton trilogies are astounding eye openers.

Safehold Series by David Weber is worth the time

mindcreek··on Ask HN: What super projects could unite humanity?
I believe an extra terrestrial threat that we can visualize and also threatens whole humanity can unite us other than i doubt any worldly issues will unite anybody.
mindcreek··on Hack the Planet: How I solved Global Warming in my sleep
That solution was raised a few years ago, proposal was using hundreds of thousands of small aluminium very thin foils to somehow decrease the amount of sunligth coming to earth, I believed they shelved it for two reasons, first was not being able stop blocking the sun after a given amount of time and the second reason was the blockage will effect different parts of the world very differently north climates can freeze to death and milder climates can see total environmental destruction due to very quick fluctuation in temperatures.

It was a good idea even then but massive water evaporating ships ( http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/post.cfm?id=geoengine... ) was better IMHO at least you can stop doing it whenever you want :)

mindcreek··on First YouTube now Google being banned in Turkey
The main problem here is not the offending video or else, the main problem is there is a monopoly in Turkish internet backbone and youtube users in Turkey use half of the total bandwidth , They dont want to improve their backbone so they are covering their behinds by banning the site with the most traffic. It's not about politics it's about money :)

And believe me I know this is my job.

mindcreek··on Twitter is not censoring flotilla.
you are rigth i also hate politics...
mindcreek··on Twitter is not censoring flotilla.
I'm from Turkey which the ships sailed out from. IDF attacked unarmed ships in international waters, They killed about 19 on board and forced the ships into an Israeli port, so far injured is rejecting medical aid from israeli hospitals and medical staff, I'm afraid there can be more loss of life.

It's very sad that they are still manipulating the news and trying to change the world's perpective on the subject.

It's plain and simple, they are actively trying to kill a nation of people, they are attempting genocide, which they should be aware of more then most of the world is the most awful atrocity mankind can inflict.

Support the humanitarian peaceful effort of good people.

God be with them.

mindcreek··on Microsoft's Guide to Humor
Guide itself is more funny than the subject.
mindcreek··on Ask HN: Would you use a cord bank?
My second child was born about a week ago. I kept both their cord blood in sepearate banks in separate cities in case of a disaster or an emergency.

I paid 20 years of storage for both of them also. I believe in the future their stem cells will be beneficial to them in at least one area of their lives, and I hope never to need the cord bloods for health reasons.

But there is one crucial point you should be aware of, make sure they are not sharing personal information or genetic profile with international third parties make sure the service agreement between you and the bank covers this explicitly, banks that I stored my children's bloods had no such clear points in their agreements and i made them add my own no third parties article for me.
