mikhuang··on Show HN: Seamless head tracking for games using the TrueDepth camera (iOS)
This looks a lot more comfortable than wearing a QR code on my head. Is there expected to be a lot of accuracy difference between a TrueDepth cam and a regular cam?
mikhuang··on Universal Basic Income + Automation + Plutocracy = Dystopia
I’m not sure I understand the argument. A mass of angry people who have their basic needs met seems a good force for confronting exploitation. The Yang campaign specifically is the one very vocally calling out for capturing the fruits of automation to share.
mikhuang··on Universal Basic Income + Automation + Plutocracy = Dystopia
I don’t know what things are like in Nordic countries but I feel there’s tons of things that need to be done in the USA. Perhaps things like time banking for giving credit for all the tasks a community needs would be nice? https://www.yang2020.com/policies/modern-time-banking/
mikhuang··on Ask HN: Would we benefit from a more opinionated JavaScript?
I think that boat sailed a long time ago :D
mikhuang··on Standard Cognition Raises $35M Series B
Technically, you can walk into the Standard Store on Market and just shop without an app, and then pay at the kiosk
mikhuang··on React Native Accessibility Is Pretty Bad
Totally agree with you about React Native being easier for me anyway. I would love if accessibility was more built in. The original author submitted a PR for a basic bit of integration that looks fine but is being blocked from merging by a lint thing.
mikhuang··on React Native Accessibility Is Pretty Bad
I’m using React Native for a lot of projects these days so this is pretty worrying. Seems like there’s a lot that react-navigation could be doing.
mikhuang··on Standard Cognition Raises $40M Series A to Deliver Autonomous Checkout
I think the idea is that instead of being tied to a cash register, former checkout people would be able to get to know their community better by being free to go anywhere in the store. The Apple Store experience comes to mind for me.
mikhuang··on Pinebook: An Affordable 64-bit ARM based Open Source Notebook
This comment seems hilarious to someone who grew up with 486s that did those things fine. However, I’m inclined to agree that i would find this machine challenging to use as my daily thing.
mikhuang··on Show HN: Hotspot 3D – Compare Phones with WebGL
Loading was really really slow for some reason. I'm in SF, could that have anything to do with it?
mikhuang··on SoYouLearn – A flexible and advanced spaced repetition platform
Stuck on creating account, iOS , it just keeps spinning
mikhuang··on Amazon Is Hungry and Coming for Cable Channels
If only they went after cable internet connections...
mikhuang··on Announcing Pipenv
Uninstall by default removing everything seems a little scary. Otherwise looks really neat, looking forward to trying it
mikhuang··on Make Donald Trump say (almost) anything

mikhuang··on Startups Can’t Manufacture Like Apple Does (2014)
Black makes it easier to hide defects. White makes any tiny issue show up very clearly, it's hard to get the exact shade of white right, and you'll need to run lots of plastic through the machine to make sure no little bits of other colors are still waiting in there to ruin your new pieces.
mikhuang··on Show HN: web comic tracking Chrome extension
Before this, I used to impulsively go to comic sites and refresh around the time they updated. Now, I impulsively check the menu whenever bored. It's good enough for personal usage, I'm wondering if this'd be useful for others?
mikhuang··on Make Your Own Grid Paper
looks fun! being able to input specific dimensions would be nice, e.g. 5mm or .25" grid
mikhuang··on A day at sea
First gen iPad mini, heard water sounds, white line went across bottom, no further response to tapping etc. I suppose I'm missing something?
mikhuang··on Google Web Designer
Finally! A tool to direct people whose websites I don't want to make to use.
mikhuang··on Hoodie: very fast web app development
Hoodie devs: Just out of curiosity, what frontend framework (if any) is used on minutes.io?
mikhuang··on Show HN: What can be done with a LiveCode, modern-day HyperCard, and a pledge
Does anyone have experience developing iOS apps that attempt to match native experience with LiveCode? From playing with Die Waldfibel (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/die-waldfibel/id453746100?mt...), it seems to lack native-feeling momentum scrolling, scroll bars, navigation menus, etc.
mikhuang··on Ask HN: How do App Store webviews work?
Even Google iOS views don't seem nearly as polished as those used by Apple. Any idea how to find out what's going on?
mikhuang··on Asana's Product Priorities
Love Asana. Looks like they share my wish for it to go FASTER FASTER FASTER!
mikhuang··on Bootstrap 3.0 Upcoming changes
Any word on carousel supporting fades? They mention vertical movement but thus far I've had to hack in fades a lot
mikhuang··on IPhone fails to gain market share in China
If not marketshare, it certainly has mindshare. I just returned from China and if you're in any of the major cities, you'll see iPhones everywhere, on the bus, subway, restaurants, etc. And if you're buying phone accessories, iPhone cases dominate.
mikhuang··on A Naked iPhone -- Or, Why You Shouldn't Use a Case
Or use a tether to prevent your iPhone from plummeting to its death http://gizmodo.com/kenu-highline/
mikhuang··on Fast animation with iOS WebKit
I was playing with the new iPhone features page at http://apple.com/iphone/features on iPad running iOS 4 and it has several horizontal scrolling bits that seem to work quite well. swap_view.js is probably responsible for the scrolling but I can't quite figure out how it works, perhaps this could be a viable alternate method?
mikhuang··on Show HN: A jQuery plugin for easy single page web sites.
Is it just me or does this not work on iPad?
mikhuang··on NATO & Al-Qaeda War Crimes In Libya (don't miss video)
In case you were wondering, content is extremely graphic/disturbing.
mikhuang··on Django Advice
What have you found to be the best way to implement a REST interface? I noticed the @ajax_request shortcut but nothing response code specific. I've been using Django-Piston which has been... challenging at best.
