mikecuesta··on Apple Watch Series 5
Oura ring is a wonderful sleep tracker. While certainly a tad pricey, its incredibly effective at its given purpose. I didn't realize 1) how much quality sleep impacted my overall health and 2) how consistently quantifying sleep quality impacts daily decisions (working out, drinking, eating, etc). Highly recommended.
mikecuesta··on China Estimates Largest Capital Outflow in More Than a Decade in 2014
Try living in a city like Miami where a staggering amount of condos/property are primarily treated as a store of value by foreigners.
mikecuesta··on Who Made That Paintball?
Total accident. Many of us were all hanging out by the cars and one of the guns went off.
mikecuesta··on Who Made That Paintball?
I too went deep into paintball back in the late -90's; it was one of the few 'sports' that I really took an affinity to.

Unfortunately, I was shot in my left eye with the barrel being less than 3 feet away, leaving me legally blind in one eye. It was after a game and we all had our masks off.

Being that my main skillset is/was design & web, it was one of the scariest experiences of my life. Fortunately I've continued to build a great career relying on the vision of one eye.

I've been approached a few times to speak out publicly on TV against the dangers of paintball, but have always declined. Just like anything in life, proper precautions are important and freak accidents will happen.

I would love to play again one day, but it's probably not the best idea.

Interesting to see Nail Salons grow so much.
mikecuesta··on Andrew Warner's Mixergy Celebrates 1,000th interview
It's really hard to quantify how valuable Andrew and his interviews have been to me on a personal, professional and spiritual level. Congrats Andrew, you've earned this in spades.
mikecuesta··on Salesforce Buys ExactTarget for $2.5 Billion
Not sure I agree that Marketo's business is unsustainable - clearly they want to make more headway in the B2C space; the B2B Marketing Automation market would seem to be saturated, but I would argue that there's still plenty of growth for them for the next 3-5 years, at a minimum.

As far as I can tell, ExactTarget's marketing automation capabilities vastly pale in comparison to Marketo or Eloqua, I could be wrong though.

mikecuesta··on Treehouse gets $7M to bring learn-to-code programs to high schools
Congrats Ryan - this tech has huge potential and is targeting such an important problem to solve.
mikecuesta··on We'll Be Circling Back
I was totally confused reading through this the first time - it made me roll my eyes at least 5 times. Then I realized it was satirical and my faith in PG was once again restored.
mikecuesta··on StarCraft: Orcs in space go down in flames
I've heard this same point made again and again for several years now. It's really a shame (or opportunity).
mikecuesta··on The Flat Design Era
Well... you still kind of need to add colors, fonts, and even pixel perfection of elements, so in essence you are still doing that extra step after the initial IA, just with a certain restriction.
mikecuesta··on The Flat Design Era
Flat design certainly has it's place in the world but it's important to keep in mind that ultimately it's just another aesthetic. Distressed, Glossy, Flat, Matte, Woodsy, etc, these are all just styles that lay on top of what is good information architecture and interaction design.

It's not about flat design being right or wrong, it's more about whether it's appropriate for the job/task and audience/market.

There are good movies with special effects and good movies without special effects -- it's just a one element of the entire experience and by no means the most important.

mikecuesta··on Woman recieves world's first bionic eye
As someone who lost vision in their left eye during their teenage years from a paintball accident, this kind of news is really, really exciting. It sounds like we're a bit far from this being viable as the patient can only see certain lights and shapes, but it's certainly a great stride.
mikecuesta··on Show HN: Eligible API for 700+ Health Insurance Companies
Healthcare and Health IT are plagued with an insurmountable amount of complexity, administrative burden and draconian policies which hinder a lot of the potential for innovation.

Solutions like this are absolutely vital in getting the next generation of startups, developers, and healthcare providers the kind of infrastructure that can otherwise be cost-prohibitive.

It's really great to see someone hyper-focused on solving one part of the puzzle.

mikecuesta··on CEO of Svpply: I have no idea what I'm doing

mikecuesta··on Some technical details on Watson
Wow, incredible article. I don't think many people truly understand the potential this has for Healthcare.
mikecuesta··on How HTML5 will kill the native app

mikecuesta··on Reminder: South Florida HN Meetup tonight 9pm
Nice, a HN Meetup in SFL! I won't be able to make it unfortunately, but definitely looking forward to the next one, specially if it's down in Miami.
mikecuesta··on [dead]
A think a key success factor to health IT really becoming a part of our every day lives is the ability for healthcare platforms to aggregate data from hundreds of input sources to create real intelligence around healthcare.

The Kinect would surely add an interesting twist on augmenting all of that data.

mikecuesta··on SpaceX signs largest single commercial launch deal ever -- $492 million

mikecuesta··on Ask HN: How to sell SaaS?
- Try contacting web design/dev shops and giving them an incentive rate to offer your product to their clients

- Do some case studies including before and after scenarios on existing clients

- Referral programs can work great. reach out to your existing clients (if any) and ask them for their help

Best of luck!

mikecuesta··on Opportunities for startups in health insurance industry
raheemm, this is precisely where our company fits in: www.carecloud.com
mikecuesta··on Opportunities for startups in health insurance industry
There's certainly a lot of opportunity, specifically in enabling the physicians office with more powerful and usable software. Remember, most healthcare in the US still happens within the walls of a small medical practices.
mikecuesta··on CareCloud Raises $2.3M
Starting CareCloud has been the ride of a lifetime. If anyone has further interest I'm open for any conversations.
mikecuesta··on Ask HN: Who are the top UI designers on the web today?
I don't think it comes down solely to the designer, instead think of the company and team of professionals who make a great UI possible. A great UI design trapped inside of a photoshop file is useless. It takes the effort of multiple people to make it happen - I think a better question to ask is what companies are creating the best UI's that are actually being used today.

Thanks for the all the compliments. We are certainly working on the "meat and potatoes".

mikecuesta··on Ask HN: CareCloud.com Website Review
Is it a portal? It's more than just a portal.

Does it integrate with existing systems? That is one of the core competencies of the platform.

Is it still in development? There are specific applications which will be rolled out as they are available for release. The platform on which these applications are being built on is the focus of our launch.

No problem at all, happy to answer any and all questions!
