mikebonnell··on Meta pulls new AI image feature after days of backlash

mikebonnell··on CERN Council reviews feasibility study for a next-generation collider
Would this be a different loop, but connected to LHC or is this a new standalone loop where they would need to find a locale to build it underground?
mikebonnell··on Microsoft in court for allegedly misleading Australians over 365 subscriptions
Pretty sure Microsoft is going to try and get a settlement. The evidence is very clear.
mikebonnell··on HP SitePrint
Gotta love /s how inconsistent they are with punctuations.
mikebonnell··on Judge says body cameras for Chicago officers "was not a suggestion"
But is a federal judge ruling on federal agents, and in the case of the national guard seems to be under control of the state? https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/12406
mikebonnell··on Judge says body cameras for Chicago officers "was not a suggestion"
The SAFE-T act of 2021 requires https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAFE-T_Act "all law enforcement agencies to use body cameras by 2025". This is alongside research that indicates it is beneficial and cost-effective https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/20533586-cl_bwc-stud...

The judge's insistence may come from other times that a judge's order has been ignored https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-admin-ignores-judges-order-b...

mikebonnell··on Show HN: Meihus – Mortgage calculator that shows early payment impact monthly
Kudos on the quick fix.
mikebonnell··on Show HN: Meihus – Mortgage calculator that shows early payment impact monthly
Great context about Europe and down payments, thanks for teaching me that.
mikebonnell··on Show HN: Meihus – Mortgage calculator that shows early payment impact monthly
Overall, love it. From the US perspective, property value and then down payment is an extra step when you could just start with total mortgage.

For user experience, the grey fields made me think they weren't editable or clickable until I got to the point of adding early payments.

mikebonnell··on Themis (European Reusable Rocket) is assembled on launch pad
Thank you, that makes so much sense.
mikebonnell··on Themis (European Reusable Rocket) is assembled on launch pad

mikebonnell··on Occupry your next lease to negotiate a better deal
On mobile,iOS, Firefox and the website is nearly unreadable due to the contrast.
mikebonnell··on Google Calendar removed events like Pride and BHM; retains Black Friday
You seem to be missing this point from the wording:

"mark the beginning of the sixtieth annual public and private salute to Black History." emphasis on beginning and annual

mikebonnell··on TikTok goes dark in the US
TikTok has now announced a reversal and is turning it back on.
mikebonnell··on My takeaways from 12 months of therapy
Honestly, I don't think it's possible.
mikebonnell··on My Takeaways From 12 Months Of Therapy
For CBT therapy, the evidence strongly suggests that it does help in the vast majority (but not all cases). More research is still needed to your point, and we can acknowledge the research done so far has provided evidence in favor.

"The effect's associated prediction interval −0.05 to 0.50 suggested CBT will remain effective in conditions for which we do not currently have available evidence. While there remain some gaps in the completeness of the evidence base, we need to recognise the consistent evidence for the general benefit which CBT offers." https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7856415/

"Eleven studies compared response rates between CBT and other treatments or control conditions. CBT showed higher response rates than the comparison conditions in 7 of these reviews and only one review reported that CBT had lower response rates than comparison treatments. In general, the evidence-base of CBT is very strong. However, additional research is needed to examine the efficacy of CBT for randomized-controlled studies." https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3584580/

mikebonnell··on Bench to be acquired after abruptly shutting down
Would you trust Employer when their "About" page looks like this? https://www.employer.com/about

mikebonnell··on Empty Frames and Other Oddities from the Unsolved Gardner Museum Heist
No, they weren't under extra security. The thieves seemed to not understand or not care about the value of what they stole versus what they left behind.
mikebonnell··on Notes on my Remarkable tablet
I loved my RM2 but the pencil broke and without a warranty, it felt hard pressed to by another one. I replaced tips regularly, but the "tip-holding" piece shifted so it couldn't be reliably used any more. I wonder if any other folks hit this or if I just had a one-offf bad experience?
