mikebonnell··on Can’t get another company's attention? You’re not alone
Again, I don't think that's clear at all from your marketing pages. It ends with "The end result of all of this is more emails and messages and a harder time discerning what's significant."

It isn't clear to me if this is targeted to the business owner or the 3rd party firm. Working at a startup, I want to make choices quickly, but this seems to further obscure the relationship and deal.

mikebonnell··on Can’t get another company's attention? You’re not alone
It is unclear to me how this solves the problem you're looking to solve.
mikebonnell··on Atlassian, Airbnb Boost Remote Work as Peers Order Office Return
But Zoom just required employees to return to office at least part-time, so it's good to see some remote companies keep the remote work environment.
mikebonnell··on Stop using Honey to shop online
Small bit of feedback on your post, you use the same screenshot when referencing how Honey's execs used to respond to customer feedback. Based on reading the post I think you intended two different screenshots.
mikebonnell··on Why do so few people major in computer science? (2017)
This premise destroys the whole argument for me: "I consider this a puzzle because I think that people who go to college decide on what to major in significantly based on two factors: earning potential and whether a field is seen as high-status."

Based on my personal experience in the late 2000s, this was not true at all. People majored in CS because they liked solving the logic puzzles CS represents regardless of salary or stays

mikebonnell··on Amazon Delivery Drivers Unionized. Now They Have to Prove They Work for Amazon
It appears that Amazon has already said that they're going to be dropped, strike or no strike.
mikebonnell··on Humans have known the earth is round for thousands of years (2018)
The book does not take a pro-European perspective of their journeys to the Americas, but I do not think the book takes a single lens through this segment of history. It quotes from the explorers directly from their journeys in most cases.
mikebonnell··on “Tinder for Canceling Meetings”
Is there a valid link for their terms of use?

"Details regarding Cala dispute resolution process are available in the Cala Terms of Use."

But Cala Terms of Use doesn't link to anything and /terms doesn't load...

mikebonnell··on Humans have known the earth is round for thousands of years (2018)
I highly recommend "American Holocaust: The Conquest of the New World" if you're interested in learning more about Columbus from a very well documented and sourced non-fiction book.

Have we made bad decisions in the past, yes.

Should we continue to make those same bad decisions now, no.

Twitter Support just posted:

"Some parts of Twitter may not be working as expected right now. We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences. We’re working on this now and will share an update when it’s fixed."

mikebonnell··on A step forward in understanding Fragile X syndrome, a cause of autism
Thank you for sharing additional context. While I disagree with you strongly, I don't see much value in furthering the discussion here.
mikebonnell··on A step forward in understanding Fragile X syndrome, a cause of autism
I'm sorry, but I'm not following how I'm leaning into autism with the highest functioning description of it. ASD has multiple stages with varying needs of assistance, I am trying to encourage society to help of all stages.

I truly want to understand more how that quote is despicable. As someone directly responsible for an individual with autism, I very much acknowledge that autistic people exist at several different levels of capabilities.

mikebonnell··on A step forward in understanding Fragile X syndrome, a cause of autism
Autism as a general topic should not be called a disease. As said so well in this article: https://novaramedia.com/2021/11/25/autism-is-not-a-disease/

"Treating autism as a ‘disease’, rather than a neurotype that exists as a result of natural biological variation, paves the way for a level of discrimination and stigmatisation that would not be acceptable if it were applied to other minority groups. At worst, it raises serious fears of eugenics. But the traditional understanding of autism as a deficit also plays a huge role in day-to-day discrimination against autistic people..."

edit: removed a poorly worded section.

mikebonnell··on Spotify reducing employee base by about 6%
Spotify lays off 6% of the workforce.
mikebonnell··on Show HN: Lock your event pictures behind a feedback form
No, no, never would do this. If, as a company hosting an event, I want them to enjoy themselves and then spread these pictures of their own accord. Blocking access to the pictures to get feedback means you aren't getting accurate feedback with or without blocking.
mikebonnell··on US navy released worst rust photo to date
The United States has definitely had an empire. It intentionally diminished it's role in some of the formerly controlled land and territories, but an empire the US has. https://us.macmillan.com/books/9780374172145/howtohideanempi... In case you want to read more

They likely use some of the metrics to continue to get grant funding. You gave us $1m in grant money which we used to produce this webpage which has XXX millions of views. I'm sure other tools would suffice but given it's a project at Harvard, they may have institutional requirements.
mikebonnell··on All Twitter users in the US will start to see crowdsourced fact checks on tweets
As far as I can tell from testing Birdwatch earlier is that you can't proactively choose new notes and can only act on ones that are designated for you.
mikebonnell··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Ironically enough, Google Photos still has this capability.
mikebonnell··on Judge dismissed claims of collusion between Google and Meta in the “Jedi Blue” [pdf]
The title of this is very incorrect. The judge dismissed one claim but allowed all of the others to proceed. Of the four counts, "For the reasons explained, Google’s motion to dismiss is GRANTED as to Count IV and otherwise DENIED."
mikebonnell··on Love Song to Costco
Almost all of their profit is from membership fees. https://investor.costco.com/node/24021/html

Sales almost equal merchandise cost plus selling expenses. Membership fees add $984 million on top of that.
