mike··on Ask HN: How is your startup doing?
Not the author, but yep, I think there is a typo here.

Should be https://vokabeln.io/ (vokabeln is German for “vocabulary”)

mike··on PayPal has restricted our account after we invoiced a key containing “ALEP”
One thing it could have been is the “brushing” scam

Creating fake orders to enable fake reviews for a product to be posted, boosting the product listing.

mike··on Increased Subscription Pricing for IDEs, .NET Tools, and the All Products Pack
On https://account.jetbrains.com/licenses if you click "Renew" for the appropriate product then on the next page, under the Subscription dropdown there should also be a "Purchase Period" dropdown. It's probably set to "Default" rather than "1 year", but can be changed to "2 years" or "3 years". Does that option not appear for you?
mike··on Increased Subscription Pricing for IDEs, .NET Tools, and the All Products Pack
Nicely communicated. Everything that JetBrains does around their pricing and subscription model always feels really fair and classy to me. (perpetual fallback licensing, continuity discounts).

In this case, being completely upfront in the post title that this is a price increase, no "Updated pricing" or "Revised pricing" etc. Reasonable notice period with an option to renew for multiple years at the current pricing before the change comes into effect.

mike··on Instapaper is temporarily shutting off access for European users due to GDPR
If anyone is looking to export a list of their saved pages the links for this are on the Settings page: https://www.instapaper.com/user

A list of all saved pages in all folders can be downloaded in CSV or HTML.

mike··on Subscription Hell
> some way cross-apply the license purchase price to a subscription

They did do this. From the footnote to to their original announcement[1]

Recent purchases of the Mac app will unlock up to 12 months of free use, and purchases of the iOS app will unlock up to 6 months of free use. Your individual free-use duration is calculated from your actual purchase date, respectively, and if you bought Ulysses on both platforms, we will add together both periods.

I'd be interested in this, please do drop me an email if you do put this on GitHub. Thanks.
mike··on Ask HN: We didn't get a single person to pay for our SAAS – what could be wrong?
Virtual assistant[0] is an accepted term for a human assistant, but agree that with the increase it chatbots it is confusing. Definitely worth clarifying as having a real person answering the questions is a lot more valuable.

mike··on Show HN: Fluor a macOS app to switch Fn keys depending on active application
Not certain, but the built in setting may only be for Macs with the Touch Bar, where it's available under System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts and choosing the "Function Keys" category.
mike··on Show HN: Fluor a macOS app to switch Fn keys depending on active application
For machines with the Touch Bar, this can be achieved using System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts and choosing "Function Keys" from the list of categories. You can then specify apps that should show function keys instead of app controls by default. (i.e. inverts the behaviour of the fn key in the listed apps.)

mike··on Ask HN: Heroku Replacement?
What part of the change means that it's no longer suitable? The free dyno hours can be shared across several infrequently used apps, and apps will sleep after inactivity to prevent them using up the free hours.

Either of SuperDuper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription... or Carbon Copy Cloner https://bombich.com/ is great for making a complete, bootable copy of a drive.

mike··on The Hardest Logic Puzzle Ever
I don't think there's any conflict between these. The first just means that you only get a response from a single god of your choosing for each of your three questions, as opposed to receiving a response from each god for each question. It doesn't mean that each god is asked exactly one question.
mike··on NYC taxi visualization
I was seeing the same a few minutes ago (also in Chrome) but it's working for me now so it's worth giving it another try.
mike··on Vesper 2.0 and Vesper Sync
No OS X version yet, but it's what they're working on next according to the last part of http://vesperapp.co/blog/vesper-2-0-and-vesper-sync/

I guess that export will be possible as part of the API once that is available.
mike··on Rails SQL injection vulnerability: here are the facts
I believe that macca321 is wishing that, to avoid confusion, the term "hash" was reserved for referring to an individual hash code and that "hash table" was used for the data structure and the Ruby class that implements it.
mike··on Never mind talent: Practice, practice, practice
Are you thinking of the quote from this article? http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/Teller-Reveals-Hi...

"You will be fooled by a trick if it involves more time, money and practice than you (or any other sane onlooker) would be willing to invest."

mike··on Kaleidoscope 2.0 Beta - Diff and Merge Tool
I was trying this briefly last night. It does have 3-way-merge when you integrate it with your source control tool, however I couldn't seem to find a way to use this functionality when you're just using it standalone.

mike··on Habitualist and ThoughtStreams Launch
Just took a quick look at the Habitualist site. Not sure if it's intentional or not, but I found it a bit off-putting that you can't tell how much the plans are before you sign up.
