micampe··on Show HN: Where Adblock+ injects 20K CSS rules, HTTPSB injects one
> Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law […]

> Any advert in a public space [is] yours to take, re-arrange and re-use.

I feel pretty confident in saying AdBlock is not what he had in mind there.

Ironically, you just manipulated his words to your advantage, which is exactly what he advocates in that quote.

micampe··on Mac keyboard shortcuts
Cmd-? is so much better than arrow keys. It’s like having M-x everywhere. You can also use that instead of Ctrl-F2.
micampe··on OS X Command Line Utilities
> But the open command doesn't allow you to pass the environment

Uh? I’ve been using open to pass NSZombieEnabled and other debugging stuff to apps all the time and it works.

From man open(1):

Opened applications inherit environment variables just
as if you had launched the application directly through
its full path. This behavior was also present in Tiger.
micampe··on Jailbreak tweak brings multitasking to the iPad
ooh, that makes all the difference, now I see why that is the most useful feature. :)
micampe··on Jailbreak tweak brings multitasking to the iPad
> The most useful feature is the ability to swipe between desktops and applications, just like on OS X. Swiping four fingers in either direction switches desktops or applications, even using the same animation as on the desktop.

Uh? That is the most useful feature? That has been available without any modification since iOS 5: http://www.tuaw.com/2011/10/12/ios-5-features-new-multi-touc...

micampe··on Oracle continue to circumvent EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL()
Just like there are no barriers to changing the GPL so it is compatible with the CDDL, other than the FSF not wanting to?
micampe··on Google Maps Has Forsaken Us
Ironically, Apple Maps finds it.
micampe··on Swype makes almost 4000 location requests every day
As I said, your conjecture is proved wrong by reality.
micampe··on Swype makes almost 4000 location requests every day
On iOS you can disable any permission at any time for any application and it's plainly explicit in the API. I've never seen any application do what you describe.

The typical example people make is Facebook, which they assume would block you if denied your location but instead works just fine when you remove access to location, camera, photos, and contacts. I don't see why they would behave differently on Android.

micampe··on Swype makes almost 4000 location requests every day
Your assumption is incorrect. On iOS you can turn on or off location (and several other permissions) for any application at any time, since day one.
micampe··on Steve Jobs, a Genius at Pushing Boundaries
And the categories the NYT assigned to the three articles (business, technology, science) explain why it’s useless to try to decide who is more “important”.
micampe··on Steve Jobs, a Genius at Pushing Boundaries
It’s the same reason rock stars are more famous than scientists.
micampe··on Apple Announces 7 For 1 Stock Split
This is the first time I read this point of view. I don’t think it is as widely shared as you believe. Every complaint I read about the 5C is that it is not cheap enough.
micampe··on Apple Announces 7 For 1 Stock Split
Elaborate please?
micampe··on Lens Blur in the new Google Camera app
It’s an age old topic really, what you are doing with the camera is representing what you see, you are cropping a small part of what’s around you, and you can give something completely different meanings by just pointing the camera in a different direction.
micampe··on The Truth About Google X: A Look Behind The Secretive Lab's Closed Doors
Thank you for explicitly calling out mod actions. This is much better than changes blindly happening behind the scenes.

It would be nice if this could also be formalized, maybe with a note at the top or bottom of the page instead of a comment that can be lost.

micampe··on Apple declines to join Microsoft in funding patent troll Intellectual Ventures
First paragraph:

Intellectual Ventures (IV) is seeking a major new investment to expand its controversial patent trolling operations but, unlike on past occasions, Apple is not coming along for the ride.

micampe··on Internal Apple document: FY'14 Planning Offsite
I said it was just a tip, not the ideal fix. For someone it could be an acceptable solution.

Oh my, you got me, I just keep it in a display case.

Such anger. Wow.

micampe··on Apple Designer Jonathan Ive Talks About Steve Jobs and New Products
That camera is rather ugly indeed, but as an (non digital) M owner:

> Recessed dials? A photographer wouldn't be caught dead without quick access to ISO, aperture values, shutter speed, and exposure metering/bracketing.

Plenty of cameras that photographers use don’t have direct access to many of those settings.

> Fumbling around with fingernails inside a recessed dial is the last thing you want to do when a child is running between two trees and the sunlight is streaming down on him, mottled from the shadows of the trees, and you've got the perfect shot.

You would miss that shot with any Leica M ever made, unless you were already set at ƒ/8 and hyperfocal, in which case this one would work just as well.

You would probably miss that shot with an H5D too, and I’m pretty sure some photographers find that useful.

Finally, that camera was not made to take pictures. It’s sad, maybe, but that’s just the way it is.

Criticism gone too far, I think.

micampe··on Go for Objective-C developers
There is no mixing. Objective-C is a superset of C, therefore C syntax is part of the Objective-C language.

micampe··on Flappy Bird by the Numbers
Or maybe he was just naive and didn't expect that outcome.
micampe··on Flappy Bird by the Numbers
Thank you for saying this.

On the other side there are also people like %#&$* Scoble that say this is just a marketing play. The lack of empathy and awareness that not everyone in the world is as greedy and selfish as you really upsets me. But you said it better anyway.

micampe··on IE7 users, we need to talk…
I do that with a car from 1972.

The comparison doesn't hold though.

micampe··on Have I tattooed a syntax error on my arm?
You’ll see just as much english gibberish on chinese teens t-shirts. I haven’t seen any on tattoos, but they also seem to be significantly less common than in the US.
