mi_lk··on Google’s Jeff Dean’s undergrad senior thesis on neural networks (1990) [pdf]
Wonder who was his advisor back then, because I don't think it's mentioned in the thesis. Or he did this on his own, which is not surprising by the way.
mi_lk··on Ask HN: How long does it take to learn a new keyboard layout?
Right, but having hjkl sit consecutively is sort of like wasd moves where you don't have to think about the key you pressed, only about the shape. But I guess it's just how you choose to build your muscle memory model.
mi_lk··on Ask HN: How long does it take to learn a new keyboard layout?
OT, but does using DVORAK prevent someone from using vim? I mean, do you have to remap hjkl or what? Use arrow key?

mi_lk··on The Future of Notebooks: Lessons from JupyterCon
Just be careful to use https://github.com/millejoh/emacs-ipython-notebook instead of the unmaintained https://github.com/tkf/emacs-ipython-notebook. Somehow the latter comes up as my first search result.
mi_lk··on The Future of Notebooks: Lessons from JupyterCon
> Over time, I expect editors like VSCode to edit Jupyter notebooks natively.

Please, please, please. Given the rising importance of interactive programming, I really think it deserves more than a extension to give us a seamless experience.

mi_lk··on LI2: Lego Institute for Lego Investigation
Do Paul Allen and Peter Norvig go way back?
mi_lk··on TensorFlow 2.0 is coming
Interesting, what do you mean by saving Keras models and converting to Racket?
mi_lk··on TensorFlow 2.0 is coming
On a related note, there's a Clojure API for MXNet (another major deep learning framework).

And the parent's point still stands.
mi_lk··on Ask HN: What are some of the simplest software businesses that exist?
How does craigslist make money? Ads?
mi_lk··on Introduction to OCaml
You probably want to go with https://dev.realworldocaml.org/ , which is a in-progress rewrite of v1.
mi_lk··on Introduction to OCaml
Would you mind sharing the company's name? In terms of size, engineering culture and industry, I can only think of twosigma who is similar to janestreet.
mi_lk··on You Cannot Serve Two Masters: The Harms of Dual Affiliation
Dual affiliation meaning industry/academic split is unambiguous here since that's the word Facebook AI Research choose to use [1][2] and the authors are explicitly responding to Facebook's model.

mi_lk··on Ending support for Dropbox syncing to drives with certain uncommon file systems
Don't know what you're talking about. Dropbox doesn't ruin my battery on my Mac.
mi_lk··on Julia 1.0
Off-topic, but how do you type footnote-style number?
mi_lk··on Problem Solving and Clojure 1.9 with Rich Hickey
I was just considering learning Clojure recently, what resources would you recommend?
mi_lk··on I made my own WireGuard VPN server
Does the quickstart apply to MacOS? I follow the instructions and can't get past `wireguard-go wg0`.
mi_lk··on A browser extension to make Medium more readable
Plugin is probably not the best word. But since iOS supports content blockers, I was imagining it’s possible to have dedicated apps block reddit pop-ups.
mi_lk··on A browser extension to make Medium more readable
Came here to say this. It’s so annoying that I would probably pay for the plugin to get rid of those pop-ups on reddit mobile sites.
mi_lk··on Research shows the difference between emotional and informational support
Yep, really learned it the hard way.
mi_lk··on Firefox 61.0 Released
Last time I asked it seems that this is not a top priority for Firefox: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15803281

mi_lk··on NIPS 2017 Notes [pdf]
Hi David, very impressive of your notes, especially in this knowledge-intense machine learning conference, the way you organize diverse topics and have short summaries about them seems like a very useful skill to have. Do you have any methods/tips that you can share about your note-taking skills?
mi_lk··on Turi Create simplifies the development of custom machine learning models
The pain is real.
