Yes, but the solution differs. As the author says — updating DNS entries can be considerably less complicated than migrating libraries and their references
The article doesn’t mention any of these namespaces failing as the major issue… he is referring to the challenge of transferring hosting providers, which could be done for various reasons.
Even assuming the end-state of all this is Trekonomics -- consider the amount of retired folks that generally just sit around and watch TV. I think a massive culture-shift is in order before we can even consider a healthy society consisting of 0 essential employment.
My comment didn’t really portray what I’m getting at. Food insecurity is obviously an indicator for financial confidence. I know people can afford food, on top of the fact they will choose to pay for it because they have to. I know people who have chosen to eat and fall behind on rent. The point is, if you’re worried about your meals, you’re not living the rest of your life with confidence. It’s not something to be brushed aside.
I think about this problem often in life because of my tendency to procrastinate. Only the long term effects that cause me serious paranoia get any real attention (failing to meet social expectations, major health issues, large-figure finance problems). It’s absolutely necessary to define the constraints before they define you. This requires a lot of forward thinking and effort but considering how little time we get on this earth… worth it
SSAO really is awful but it’s the best performing AO we could get for a long time afaik. It’s such a hallmark of 00s and 10s rendering that I laugh every time I see it in a modern release. There are some new solutions hitting the space, I believe RTGI/PT inherently handles AO, and there is even a new method called ‘FidelityFX CACAO’ which does look considerably more realistic. Things are improving… slowly.
Ehhh, I think most engineers that actually want this are pretty accepting of their current tooling and wouldn’t want to switch to a whole new Linux distribution just for a slightly more seamless experience. Besides, the people who care are always pushing forward to make the UX better — see devcontainers, Apple Containers, WSL, etc.
The reality is more along the lines of traditional rendering with special ML models inferring and splicing in generated frames. Framegen is already in most modern games and Nvidia has made it a driver level option for many unsupported ones. In case you haven’t used it — it is black magic. Studios will have almost no motivation to optimize if framegen can be perfected, and it’s not far.
Why waste time memorizing arcane flags when you can spend that time actually building things? Frankly I still check man pages for things like tar all the time and I’ve been using linux for over a decade. It becomes less of a fun learning activity and more of a chore when every tool has a hundred different invocations to memorize.
Yes, this is a separate runtime. Docker handles containerization differently with more overhead. OCI is a 'standard' way of constructing container images and both are compatible with OCI.
Interesting. From the hyundai manual, driver attention monitoring only uses front sensor with no face recognition in the vehicle as far as I can tell. Are you sure your cruise control issue isn’t because of hand sensors?
Also, I think the issue with it stopping the car sounds like ‘collision avoidance forward safety’ which can be disabled according to the manual. I haven’t had any issues so far though.
I also disable lane assist but largely just because I prefer to have full control. The highway driving assist is really neat though.
For those interested or forced to buy a new car — I recently picked up a brand new Hyundai and was impressed the new tech does not get in the way. ‘Driver attention warning’ does not have a face camera, it just uses the front sensor to confirm you’re not all over the place. It can also be disabled. Lane assist can be disabled with one button on the wheel. Almost all important controls are real (non capacitive) buttons. Warnings can be customized. Smart cruise control can be customized. As someone who really liked his 90s Toyota, I’m impressed.
This is something audiences are clearly desperate for today. I think it's obvious when looking at the huge success of Helldivers, Bodycam, Ready Or Not, Arc Raiders, (none of which are particularly innovative) players appreciate high quality, tactile and grounded world interaction.
I've done some basic testing of the CoreAI framework (using Apple's official 'llm-runner' and officially supported .coreai converted models) and seen no noticable performance increase between standard MLX or GGUF with llama.cpp. I'd love to see some thorough benchmarks from someone though.
