mertysn··on Show HN: Neohabit – custom github heatmaps for X times per Y days activities
Your work has been praised on a meta-discussion about Show HN's: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47045804
mertysn··on Developers can now submit apps to ChatGPT
I wouldn't say it has to be proprietary. Nevertheless, it's the information asymmetry that benefits the maintainer. One would have no incentive to publish there if their revenue stream can be easily cloned.
mertysn··on Launch HN: Tweeks (YC W25) – Browser extension to deshittify the web
Using Firefox implies, to me, a willingness to customize the browser experience, which would probably heavily overlap with your target demographic. Since the extension manifest version update disabled some essential browser extensions, Chrome has become much less useful
mertysn··on Claude Code for VSCode
How can you keep track of the current context limit if you are on Claude Pro or Max? I'm used to their desktop app for MCP use and there is no way to tell until the end-of-the-road popup shows up.
mertysn··on Show HN: Hacker Herald – like HN but with crowdsourced pics and subtitles
^ hckrnews.com replaced vanilla HN for me years ago: you never miss popular articles if you don't visit the site for a while, and you can change the filtering to include more results if you have more time to browse. It's been wonderful for my browsing habits.

mertysn··on I made a game you can play without anyone knowing (no visuals/sound)
still not too late to go with "haptik"
mertysn··on I Quit Spotify
Spotify support forums (community) are a honeypot for complaints. Take a look at how long the 'top ideas' have been ignored to see for yourself.

Using the non-shuffling feature titled 'smart shuffle' is the most frustrated I have been using any software in my 30 years of life. If your connection speed is not on big US city level, accidentally toggling shuffle practically halts the application for minutes. Reference: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Mobile-Other-Sma...

For credibility: there are 142,664 scrobbles saved on my last fm since 2013. I use the service a lot and wish I did not have to resort to modding tools like Spicetify for basic feature toggles. Way to ruin a wonderful product. If there was a 'Spotify but only the music you choose', I'd switch in an instant.

mertysn··on How to save $13.27 on your SaaS bill
Is there a workaround to this within the realm of GitHub Pages? My initial search concludes: without GitHub allowing custom headers, no
mertysn··on The Overengineered Resume with Zola, JSON Resume, Weasyprint, and Nix (2023)
I created my CV with React and Semantic UI since I was not satisfied with the amount of visual precision Word provides. The stack choice was due to personal ease of use, Semantic is probably an overkill.

Recently, I started turning it into a template and added some documentation. The next step is to feed the data (experience, education) through JSON so it's easier for others. It is automated to the point of generating a new preview GIF every time I push to master. I still manually hit CTRL+P to get the PDF though, it feels faster than implementing automation.

I'll hopefully do a Show HN in the future but until then, here is a demo on GitHub Pages: https://mrtysn.github.io/cv/

mertysn··on We are not empty: The concept of the atomic void is a mistake
You can use the wayback machine extension to quickly open the latest archived version. If it's not already archived, you can also quickly trigger the process.

mertysn··on Tell HN: The “Y” logo in the top-left corner has been upgraded to SVG

mertysn··on How to Start Your Blog in 2023
The parent is probably talking about the medium paywall, which is usually bypassed by getting it archived on the internet archive. The archive link to the post is preferable to the medium link to the post, at least for me.
mertysn··on Python 3.10 support date still unknown for AWS Lambda functions
Despite the release of Python 3.11 on 2022/10/24, the latest Python version you can use today for AWS lambda functions is Python 3.9
mertysn··on Ask HN: What's your favorite illustration in computer science?

mertysn··on Show HN: Browse HN Together in Three.js
Too many agents (i.e. humans, bots) are trying to load NSFW gifs and even if you want to prevent them from doing so, the shortcuts are on their side to revisit past links. Good luck with content moderation. Even if you implemented a way to vote bad actors out (e.g. you can kick players from game lobbies that don't follow the rules via having a server-wide vote), I believe it would be out-botted.
mertysn··on Guest WiFi using a QR code
I used https://wificard.io/ and put the QR in my living room. It also has the option to include text for people who would like to manually connect. My friends love it.
