Not really a "secure" workstation if you can't have a secure bootchain. An open, secure platform would allow you to fuse your own root key.

The CPU? ARMv8 isn't a thing, it's an instruction set specification, just like x86, implemented by various micro-architectures. Samsung doesn't do that (yet).

I wondered that too. Anyone care to share how to get by with a non-tech salary in the bay area?
Not necessarily, you could have separate iCloud accounts for each family member and one shared iTunes/App Store account. You can use a different account for iTunes and the App Store, so you don't have to change accounts all the time. At least that's what we do.

No! That's what makes it so awesome. It analyses the scenery and infers your position as you walk around.
Well, on a new Ubuntu installation the first thing I have to do now is:
sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping
But still way better than the crap windows users have to put up with.> FAQ: Will you open source the Epiphany chips? > Not initially, but it may be considered in the future.
Well, that makes it a lot less interesting than I hoped it would be.
Mh, looks like he is off by a factor of 256 :)

[1] I guess IBM still counts, but mainframes aren't that sexy anymore :)
I would guess if Apple is capable of designing their own Microarchitectures they would be perfectly capable of compiling a bunch of HDL code they can get straight from ARM. [1]
> but i still don't think they would want to give apple a CPU platform that was undoubtedly better than their flagship phone so soon after releasing it
Samsung also acts as a foundry, they manufacture designs of other people in the same sense a printing shop prints books written by other people. I don't think this involves Samsung "giving Apple a CPU platform", at least not any more.
[1] Yes, in reality thats quite a bit more complicated.
Verix: Dimensions: 15.6" (w) x 10.5" (d) x 2.2" (h) Weight: 7.10 lbs
MBP: Dimensions: 14.13" (w) x 9.73" (d) x 0.71" (h) Weight: 4.46 lbs
A plastic monstrosity. For me, this is a non-starter at any price.I guess not everyone wants to build yet another website/app. A lot of interesting/hard/capital-intensive R&D is done outside of the startup bubble and there are only so many job openings at SpaceX.
Looking at NYC or the Bay Area is pretty impressive.
Only if you want to ship an SoC already supported by Linux. (Even then, there is tons of board specific code.) If not, you are looking at a very non trivial amount of work.
X being pretty much everything they do besides Search. Not sure if that is much of an argument.
Most of their employees are not engineers, but work in retail. Which makes it a bit of an odd case among the other tech companies :)
