mempko··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
And ironically the average person travels less than 500 years ago. Shocking but true. Evem though technology made traveling easier. The reason is money and urbanization. You now need money to travel when I'm the past you didn't.

The distinction is a world wide system of borders we call countries where you need passports to cross. That is distinctly a modern thing. The way countries work now is a distinctly modern thing. Yes, there were always some places that had walls and borders, but never as a world-wide system.
mempko··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Exactly! I have the same experience. Most jews I know are not Zionists and are amazing people. Israel is not about religion, but about ideology as you point out and is deeply illiberal.
mempko··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Wow, has reading comprehension escaped the world? What is different about the passport system compared to the examples you gave? Just think about it for a while.

How many people died in Iraq? The country is completely broken. Look what's happening in the latest Iran war.

Israel is committing a genocide and we are their partners in crime.

The fact that the dip is so small for both is more a reflection of the dataset. I mean, Gaza is all but completely destroyed, how can the HDI be that high?

mempko··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
What is modern are states like we have now. Passports didn't exist before WW1 for example. The idea that people can't freely move across land and imaginary lines we call borders is a modern idea.

You have it backwards.

mempko··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Does this help you sleep? Rationalization is a coping mechanism.

The Nazis first asked the Jewish people to leave and worked with Zionists to provide incentives for them to leave. 60k left under that law to British Palestine. It wasn't until much later in the war did they start doing mass genocide. It's not like they started with mechanized murder. It starts as ethnic cleansing and ends in genocide.

So don't be proud of "only 50k" and destroying everyones home. Israel is still at committing genocide and things can get much worse. It's not like it's over. 50k is the beginning unless Israel is stopped.

It's frankly disgusting to argue over definitions and words when people are still dieing daily.

This "lawyer" mentality is so dumb.

An ethno state is a stupid backwards idea.

EDIT: how is anyone downvoting thos. Who thinks it's a good idea?

mempko··on Grok 4.7
If he wasn't supporting far right parties, including Trump's all over the world, you would have an argument. But you don't. It's not like he is going around supporting left leaning parties or centrists. It's all far-right for him.

What's silly is people like you defending the richest man in the world who cares nothing about you and your family. Why spend the effort? I don't think he needs your help. And you aren't even getting paid to do it. Sad.

mempko··on Grok 4.7
Are you ok?
mempko··on A Million Agents Is a Distributed System Problem
Try mine writing about a similar thing here written by me, a human man: https://blog.mempko.com/misconception-about-agentic-scaling/

I go and explain why adding more agents can slow you down and the model I use including an example of my own setup.

I don't know man, Musk doing Nazi salutes doesn't seem that superficial. He did help get Trump in power and also killed a lot of aid to children that need it.

What's superficial about refusing to use a product from someone like that? Or are you one of those 'technology isn't about politics' people? That's a superficial take if you ask me.

All technology is political, and understanding that is a deep, not superficial take. It requires systems thinking which unfortunately many people building technology seem to lack, despite software being a sophisticated complex system.

mempko··on Grok 4.7
Not sure why you are being downvoted. Until Musk owns up to his Nazi salute, I won't have anything to do with Grok, no matter how good or cheap it is. And yes, we need to keep talking about this because it's absurd.
mempko··on Grok 4.7
Yes, and that's a bad thing.
mempko··on Grok 4.7
Until Musk owns up to his Nazi salute, I won't be using Grok, sorry. I don't care how good or cheap it is. And no, I won't stop talking about it either.
mempko··on Dwarf Fortress is getting the mother of all magic updates
The new updates got me back into dwarf fortress. I'm sure there are more players now then ever before.
mempko··on Malleable software = solid bases and custom code
I've been building Abject (https://abject.world) as a malleable base for custom code. It's built on top of a protocol I created called the Ask protocol. I've now built it to a point where I no longer use claude to build it but use Abject itself.
mempko··on A Million Kakapos
I highly recommend the book Dawn of Everything by David Wengrow and David Graeber. Incredibly well researched looking at the latest scientific findings from anthropology and archeology.
mempko··on Zohran and the Short Link
There is a long tradition in America of Socialist mayors maintaining cities really well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sewer_socialism Glad to see Zohran is bringing it back.
mempko··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
they are not
mempko··on Building an (almost) fully self-hosted, sandboxed, agentic software factory
It seems at this stage hermes has the upper hand over OpenClaw in people building multi-agent systems. What about hermes do people like above OpenClaw. I'm building a completely different kind of "software factory" called Abject and I'm curious what people are valuing in Hermes above other systems.
mempko··on Git at any scale
Same. Sometimes you have to live with inconvenience to keep a moral stand. Those down-voting don't understand why any sacrifice of convenience or tech is worth it.
mempko··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
Yes, these cost savings would be a deflationary event. Most layoffs will come from insurance companies and administration necessary to satisfy them in hospitals.

One reason hospitals have such low margins is many people simply can't pay. If you have a payment guarantee like a medicare for all system, this will increase the stability of hospitals. In fact likely bring back some hospitals in places that didn't make sense like rural areas, which have been struggling via hospital closures.

If you are worried a low cost system will reduce doctors and hospitals per capita you don't need to, as countries that have universal healthcare often have more per capita.

mempko··on Donkey.bas is 45 Years Old – 131 line of Glory
This is what got me into programming. When I was a kid, I had a shitty 386 because my father got a computer second hand from a friend (we were poor). I was playing the game and then pressed a key and it took me to the basic editor. I was confused with what I saw and started changing things. I changed a number and the size of the explosion on the banana got bigger. My best friend at the time went to computer camp and explained to me that it was code. 30 years later I'm still programming.
mempko··on Mozilla says stricter antitrust measures against Google 'threaten Firefox'
Exactly, and now that these same businesses have LLMs, the savings they got using open source is no longer relevant. I expect we will see far more personal open source projects and a divestment from larger ones. More 1 or two people open source projects and less 100+.
mempko··on Grok 4.6
I won't use their models for this reason. Musk tinkering too much with the RL to make it sound more like him is wild.

I don't care how smart or cheap the model is if it's run by Musk, I just can't use it.

mempko··on “Code was never the hard part” is an insult to all programmers
I've been programming for 30 years and "Code was never the hard part" does not offend me. It's something i've been saying for a long time. You can teach anyone the mechanics of coding well in like 6 months.

Programming is the hard part! I want to make this distinction because to me programming is about solving problems and coding is a way to express the solution.

Designing algorithms, architectures, etc can be done without a programming language. Coding is putting it down into some language.

mempko··on U.S. economy lost 23,000 jobs in July, a sudden reversal
So you are saying it's even worse than the numbers reported.
mempko··on The AI trade now runs on borrowed money, and the lenders are repricing it
The state has created the debt based money we have now. It's always the state. Both are true.
mempko··on The AI trade now runs on borrowed money, and the lenders are repricing it
When you mentioned silver coins and bitcoin that helped me understand your position. All modern money is debt.

Bitcoin is NOT a form of money. Silver coins do require a debt, which is taxes people owe which they can use the silver coins to pay.

Graeber wrote about money in great detail in Debt the First 5000 years.
