memoryfault··on Show HN: Open-Source eInk Bike Computer
I love this. How do you house & secure your lily on your bike?
memoryfault··on Graphical Linear Algebra
3!
memoryfault··on 3,200% CPU Utilization
This is a fairly common bug in multithreaded use of .NET Dictionary, too.
memoryfault··on Harvard Diploma for Sale
> And once you’ve realized this, the diploma starts to resemble Monopoly money. You have to start evaluating people on a case-by-case basis, instead of using the degree as a reliable proxy.

I’ve found this to be true of job titles, too.

memoryfault··on Facebook React.js License
Thanks Paul. None of those answers are addressing the main critique of the article though.
memoryfault··on Facebook Will Lose 80% Of Its Users By 2017
Or they are using the mobile apps more and more.
memoryfault··on Facebook CSRF leading to full account takeover (fixed)
I disagree with that. It's a get request that is changing state server-side. That is a dead giveaway for a CSRF vulnerability.
memoryfault··on City of Boston drops Microsoft for Gmail
Have you tried their latest one? The consumer version is at outlook.com
memoryfault··on Mock your HTTP responses to test your REST API
Would someone provide an example on how this tool could be used to test a REST API? I think I'm missing something here. I'm not seeing how a fake response endpoint lets me test my REST API (shouldn't my test code invoke the API and validate that the real response was correct?)
memoryfault··on "Asswipe," replied Yahoo's server. That's when I knew I had it
I'm not familiar with Win32 APIs. Could you elaborate more as to how they would enable you to control the client like a zombie?
memoryfault··on There are 2.4 billion people on the Internet. We should get to know each other.
Encrypted communication is not very useful if you aren't sure who you are communicating with. Using a self-signed cert greatly increases this uncertainty.
memoryfault··on Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server will have Git support
It was also possible in 2010 via the quick access feature in the power tools extension.

memoryfault··on Microsoft to Developers: Windows Outsells Android, iOS, OS X Combined
It is different from the Windows app store, but MS also just released an app store for Office & SharePoint that seems to be more enterprise focused.

memoryfault··on List of those who voted for and against CISPA
Aren't they recorded differently though? Even though it doesn't change the results, you should be able to tell the difference between those who vote "nay" and those who just don't vote.
memoryfault··on Dangers of SOAP: Payment gateway WSDL sent over HTTPS but all actions are HTTP
Maybe I'm missing something, but how is this a danger of SOAP? You could misconfigure any endpoint.
memoryfault··on How I helped destroy Star Wars Galaxies
Thanks a lot for sharing. I hadn't heard of IDA/OllyDbg before.
memoryfault··on Learning to code? Tired of feeling stupid? Try Bloc (use code 'LNCH')
Fun stuff.

In chapter 1 of the Url shortener, the task is to display "Awesome" at the root path, but the validator checks for "awesome." Took me a second to notice the discrepancy.

memoryfault··on How I helped destroy Star Wars Galaxies
Would love to hear more about the tools of the trade. What did you use back then for debugging/packet sniffing, and what would you use now?
memoryfault··on Youporn.com is now a 100% Redis Site
Perhaps the 300k/s figure was at peak load.
memoryfault··on Diaspora re-writes its front to Backbone: why and what it means
This post made me curious to learn more about new relic and their architecture. I found this post pretty interesting: http://highscalability.com/blog/2011/7/18/new-relic-architec...
memoryfault··on Code snippets on Microsoft website shown in form of images.
There are plenty of MS employees on HN. I'm curious...what makes you think someone who works on translator is less likely to know what HN is?
memoryfault··on Welcome to Windows 8 – The Developer Preview
Got it up and running on a hyper-v VM in about 30minutes. Running great, but I can't figure out what the 'back' button equivalent is on the keyboard so that I can exit the App I'm in :)

edit: Turns out it's the windows key! I couldn't use it from the hyper-vm client, but once I remoted in via Remote Desktop it worked great. Loving the apps so far.

memoryfault··on Steve Jobs Presents His Ideas For A New Apple Campus
I felt differently when I visited. If anything, they at least show a progression over the general phases of the campus. Buildings 1-9 are very similar, as are the triangle buildings 16-18. A lot of the newer buildings (ie the 'Studios') are almost exactly the same. There are a few other buildings on campus (late 20's or 3*?) that show a similar architecture to the studios. But then, there is 'Red West' which is its own little mini campus in terms of design.

The reason I asked was because I wanted to see Microsoft categorized in such an easy and quick manner as Google/Apple. I must admit that I myself can't do that.

memoryfault··on Steve Jobs Presents His Ideas For A New Apple Campus
I have to ask - what is Microsoft style?

Edit: Disclosure, I have been to Microsoft's campus, but I just couldn't help but ask this question. :)

memoryfault··on Google to Announce Chrome Laptops for Students - $20/Month
That's just for facebook. With a live account cou can office web apps tied with hotmail/skydrive.
memoryfault··on Osama bin Laden Is Dead
Strange, I watched it on that site at 11:30pm est, but now at 12:24pm est the video is no longer available...
memoryfault··on Osama bin Laden Is Dead
You are assuming that we are dealing with rational people who have rational thoughts. That couldn't be further from the truth. People who plan the mass-murder of others around the world are completely irrational, and I am very confident that there are tons of people with money, organization, and leadership that will step up and try to continue Bin Laden's efforts.
memoryfault··on Show HN: My weekend project: Twtspire
It's like that in en-US too. I also read it as "twat spire" :)
memoryfault··on Everything that can go wrong with Windows Phone 7 update does
Your solution is rash and doesn't do much more than illustrate your ignorance. This article is one of the first reports, and doesn't even contain numbers in terms of how many users are affected.

Sit back and wait for the real story to unfold, then make an analysis and contribute something. Simply bursting out with "Fire them all!" and the first report of a problem is childish at best.

memoryfault··on When to Buy Airline Tickets
I would like to see / hear more about the script he wrote!
