memn0nis··on Mileage runs are last-minute dashes for airline status
I was United 1K for a few years, now back down to United silver (I fly maybe 20-30 flights a year now, down from 100+ when I was 1K). I would certainly pay a couple hundred dollars to keep United silver to get economy plus seats, but would never pay for anything about that
memn0nis··on Ask HN: Best books you read in the past decade?
Not that much fiction in this thread, so I will add A Fine Balance by Rohintin Mistry. It's the saddest book I've ever read but incredibly beautiful. I couldn't stop thinking about it for months
memn0nis··on Takeaways from coaching CEOs, founders and VCs
Very interesting that your batch recognized that the emotional strength and stability was the important part, rather than the idea.
memn0nis··on Toxic fumes from idling cruise ships are still a problem in New York
I've never understand why the problem of "the X largest ships contribute a shocking amount of pollution" hasn't been solved. It can't be that hard given the limited number of ships, right?
memn0nis··on I love coding in C
I too, love coding in C. I love how you can control almost everything. There's nothing "mysterious" or abstracted away. Maybe I'm OCD, but I love understanding exactly what is going on in my programs at all times
memn0nis··on Ask HN: How do you create a successful community from zero?
This is great timing. I'm trying to launch a slack community for founders and will use all the advice in this thread.
memn0nis··on Show HN: I'm building a robot that performs haircuts [video]
This is great! I'd love to pop into a store to use something like this. Looking forward to seeing the next iteration;
memn0nis··on Highest Paying Tech Companies of 2019
These salaries are incredibly high for someone who never worked at a tech company in the valley. What's the general consensus on whether these salaries will increase, decrease, or stay the same in the medium term (i.e., next 5-10 years)?
memn0nis··on If You Can't Buy the Keyboard You Want, Build It Instead
Are mechanical keyboards that much "better" (I know this is subjective) than normal laptop keyboards (I have a macbook pro). I'm considering buying one but they are quite expensive...
memn0nis··on JetBrains: $270M revenue, 405K paying users, $0 raised
Interesting... the problem with this model is that investors / the market value SaaS revenue way higher than revenue from perpetual licenses, for a variety of reasons. Although I guess that doesn't matter when you're not raising or public :)
memn0nis··on Ask HN: What is the easiest and cheapest way to create a startup landing page?
landen.co is really great.
memn0nis··on Joseph Stiglitz: The economic mess private-equity giants have created
Joseph Stigltiz is a nobel prize winner so it seems ridiculously of me to disagree... but as someone who worked in the industry, the amount of debt that lenders are willing to lend was not in our control - its a market with supply and demand like any other. I don't believe that legislation that decides how much leverage is OK is more efficient than a market that decides
memn0nis··on Ask HN: Would you pay $5 for a CRUD app?
There are quite a few no-code / low-code companies that are trying to do this. I like the idea in general, but haven't found one that actually works for the products I try to build
memn0nis··on Ask HN: Why do tech startup owners do not own the majority of their stock?
They do, when they put in 51% of the capital needed to grow the business (i.e., they bootstrapped the company). In each funding round you can generally expect 15-25% dilution, and then employees will receive options as well. By series B-C most founding teams will own less than 50% of the business.

Also, remember that different shares come with different voting rights. You can not own 51% of the economic value of a company but still have 51% of voting shares.

memn0nis··on Ask HN: Do you collect in-app customer feedback?
Sounds like its mostly inbound from users? Do you also proactively reach out to customers for interviewS?
memn0nis··on How to Find a Startup Idea
Understood. We've been emphasizing customer research to prevent time spent building the wrong thing. This talk explains more about the method we are following: https://startupclass.samaltman.com/courses/lec16/
memn0nis··on How to Find a Startup Idea
Definitely fair points.. what I was trying to get at is exactly your last point. The only way to know whether people want what you're building is to actually see if they're willing to pay for it. I think the biggest thing we are trying to avoid is building a product without knowing whether customers actually want it
memn0nis··on Personal and social information of 1.2B people discovered in data leak
Hey - not related to your comment (apologies) but wanted to get in touch . You left a note on a previous post of mine about wanting to simplify FTP. I'd love to work on this project and wanted to see if you'd be willing to connect so I can understand the problem better. Feel free to email me at kunal@mightydash.com, and thanks in advance!

memn0nis··on Ask HN: What products or services do you wish existed for your startup?
Interesting... would you mind giving me an example of the type of data you are referring to? Or perhaps an example use case / real world example?
memn0nis··on Ask HN: What products or services do you wish existed for your startup?
Have you checked out Vendr for software?
memn0nis··on Ask HN: What products or services do you wish existed for your startup?
How is this different than file sharing (e.g., Dropbox)?
memn0nis··on Ask HN: What products or services do you wish existed for your startup?
Thank you for the suggestion. I like the idea, but unfortunately I think it is out of scope for me!
