meatysnapper··on Advanced economies are so sick we need a new way to think about them
thank you. people take "rule of law" for granted.
meatysnapper··on Advanced economies are so sick we need a new way to think about them
Exactly right. The US Military (and Israel, for that matter) get a guaranteed minimum income from the US government. Why not the average person on the street?
meatysnapper··on Sending a potato to near-space
Gerald Bull would be proud.
meatysnapper··on How we became the heaviest drinkers in a century
My ancestors for thousands of years have drank everyday, and they managed not only to survive but reproduce. I think the same goes for every person of European descent. We can drink an awful lot and be fine.
meatysnapper··on Theranos didn’t work with the huge drug company it supposedly made money from
and that sort of technology has been used by the Navy since how long?
meatysnapper··on CISA passes Senate
both senators from both WA and CA, which are the tech-heavy stastes. No good!
meatysnapper··on CISA passes Senate
who is our Charleton Heston?
meatysnapper··on A Superconductor That Works at -70 °C
We software "engineers" would still find ways to write shitty software to totally negate the benefits.

"Intel giveth, Microsoft taketh"

meatysnapper··on The Okinawa missiles of October 1962
A memorial to people who exercised good judgement and common sense in stressful situations would be great. Maybe we could have a reality show about this, to prove to the rest of the world we aren't just a bunch of slobbering troglodytes.
meatysnapper··on Why Homejoy Failed
I could swear that was a east-coast version of Grindr. Bad branding?
meatysnapper··on The what and why of product experimentation at Twitter
hahahaha oh wow. yeah, no.

EDIT: It is the game of thrones version of product development, except no dwarf or sexy people.

meatysnapper··on We've Spent Billions to Fix Our Medical Records, and They're Still a Mess
I know several doctors who have retired rather than deal with the EMR mess, and these are work 80 hours a week doctors, vs the new, gentler work regular hours kind.

In addition, the doctors I know who continue to practice have had to reduce their patient hours due to the amount of time EMR takes up.

meatysnapper··on Should You Be Allowed to Invest in a Lawsuit?
Wait for it.... he has an idea... and then we'll package them into lawsuit-backed securities!
meatysnapper··on JP Morgan to Grant IPO Access to Everyone
This on the heels of unicorns having trouble in getting a bigger next round... scary times. I think the party may be over soon.
meatysnapper··on Has It Become Impossible to Prosecute White-Collar Crime?
We should make a up a spurious tale about an enormous stargoat eating the sun and send them on ark to colonize another planet.
meatysnapper··on Google’s growing problem: 50% of people do zero searches per day on mobile
I mourn the loss of my keyboard. The iPhone is a content consumption device and a camera above all else.
meatysnapper··on OpenStreetMap is the Most Important thing in Geo
Google maps on the web and on mobile has become such a miserably bad experience that I hope OSM wins big. Google's data is not bad, but the apps are awful.
meatysnapper··on The Hard Math of the Cinderella Story
Physical durability is an undervalued trait. Lots of very gifted people flame out from accumulated injuries in all sports.
meatysnapper··on Subprime ‘unicorns’ that do not look a billion dollars
I and several engineers I know had recruiters from Theranos contact us. They would not tell us anything about what we'd be working on, what kind of people we'd work with or how much we'd be paid. Needless to say we were not interested.
meatysnapper··on The Drone Papers
This cannot be stressed enough. A robotic military allows the government to wage wars with impunity because the average voter just doesn't care. If you have skin in the game, it would be different.

Perhaps a remedy for this would be to force the ranking members of congress to function as consuls, and make them live in Afghanistan for the duration of the conflict?

meatysnapper··on Graffiti on ‘Homeland,’ Unnoticed by Producers, Calls Show Racist
What if the race is synonymous with a religion- Judaism and Jews being the obvious example?
meatysnapper··on Jack Dorsey giving up 30% of his stake in Square to help underserved communities
For other organizations that are split into a for-profit/non-profit, check out Planned Parenthood and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Genius move, really.
meatysnapper··on Square files for IPO
because the future looks worse, and they want to make some money while they still can?
meatysnapper··on After 8 years and $128M raised, the clock is ticking for men's retailer Bonobos
I was going to suggest what the other poster said- take a vacation to northern Europe.

Dutch fashion brands you may know: G-Star Raw, Scotch and Soda

meatysnapper··on Square files for IPO
What if Twitter was going to be packaged up for sale, or already was, and there was a buyer lined up for a sale within 3-6 months?
meatysnapper··on After 8 years and $128M raised, the clock is ticking for men's retailer Bonobos
You need to go to Holland where you are average-sized.
meatysnapper··on After 8 years and $128M raised, the clock is ticking for men's retailer Bonobos
Ah yes, the "American slim fit". Most shirts I try on are too tight on the chest (40" chest, medium should fit normally in most brands), but the waist is... massive (31" waist). Probably for a man expecting to have a child.
meatysnapper··on After 8 years and $128M raised, the clock is ticking for men's retailer Bonobos
Wait till Massimo Dutti expands into the US. Everybody who is one price level above Zara will be destroyed.
meatysnapper··on After 8 years and $128M raised, the clock is ticking for men's retailer Bonobos
"It's unconscionable that they should cost more than $25-$30 a pair."

Exactly. I want all my clothes to be made by small children in sweatshops. I don't want my money to go to businesses that rely on paying normal wages.
