me_jumper··on SPEAKE(a)R: Turn Speakers to Microphones for Fun and Profit [pdf] (2017)
This needs a (2017), I was so confused why this was published again, seemed so familiar.
me_jumper··on Ask HN: Vibe Coding over Easter?
Absolutely not doing any like that. Even if I would be using LLMs like that, I would still try to keep a very clear split between work and life.
me_jumper··on Linux Running in a PDF (2025)
Or, you know, instead of burning tokens/trees we could use a well established project instead ;) https://github.com/freedomofpress/dangerzone
me_jumper··on Standard Ebooks: Public Domain Day 2026 in Literature
I could not find out if there are outstanding todos that I could assign myself to as a newcomer. I'd like to contribute, but don't know where to start. Is there an issue board somewhere with missing books, or something else?
me_jumper··on Writing non-English languages with a QWERTY keyboard
Been using a very similar (in idea) layout: https://eurkey.steffen.bruentjen.eu/

The main difference seems to be in positioning of different characters on a quick glance?

me_jumper··on Ask HN: What did you read in 2025?
Started rereading Pratchett's discworld novels. Gosh I love his writing.
me_jumper··on Libxml2's "no security embargoes" policy
Well, yes... Differentials in parsing of the same data can definitely lead to security vulnerabilities.

Just some random examples:

me_jumper··on My favourite fonts to use with LaTeX (2022)
I always use Atkinson Hyperlegible. It's great for the bad presentation situations one often is in (bad presenters, or simply the head of the person in front of you cutting off the lower part of the letters).
me_jumper··on Exploring Typst, a new typesetting system similar to LaTeX
I thought about trying it. This just killed it for me...
me_jumper··on Comic Mono
awesome page, thanks for linking that!
me_jumper··on Atkinson Hyperlegible Font
fair, maybe I'm too optimistic or too privileged in that regard.

Doesn't change my other points through ;)

me_jumper··on Atkinson Hyperlegible Font
Depends on where you are, I guess. I work at a University in Germany, and most meeting rooms are either 1) very old and exactly as you've described, or 2) updated in the last few years and actually usable. There doesn't seem to be an in-between.
me_jumper··on Atkinson Hyperlegible Font
I'm personally not sure if I like the font in bodies of text, but I adore it for presentations.

You don't have long texts on slides, and everything is very distinct. I find it especially helpful, as many setups where one presents can be suboptimal (e.g., bad lighting, obstructed views, warped surface that is projected on, …). Which is where this font shines not only for people with impaired vision, but for everyone.

me_jumper··on Google Scholar PDF Reader
Not sure if that's what you are looking for but mupdf can render to SVG.
me_jumper··on Show HN: Easy Laptop Finder full laptop list
I entered my values and it gave me my current laptop, so well done
me_jumper··on Insult Passphrase Generator
"China" is a term used for fine dishes made from porcelain as far as I'm aware (non-native speaker myself)
me_jumper··on Full AMD Linux Laptop (Radeon 7600M XT GPU, Ryzen CPU): Tuxedo Sirius 16 Review
Had a Tuxedo a few years back. It would randomly get a black screen (backlight still on, just black pixels). Happens randomly and I've never seen anything in jurnalctl or similar logs.

The case was slightly bent from factory (did wobble a bit when on a table) I sent it in and the "fixed" it (they didn't).

I never was really happy with it and I was pretty expensive for what I could afford as a CS student (like 1100€).

me_jumper··on Thanks FedEx, this is why we keep getting phished
I bought insurance online. Some days later I got a super dodgy email telling me I should sign up for an online portal. The link was a mess and linked to a different insurance provider.

I called my provider. Turns out the actual insurance is handled by a sub-provider that works for a different (major) insurance... WTF

Try converting it to PDF/A
me_jumper··on ArXiv now offers papers in HTML format
I think https://web.hypothes.is/ would be of interest to you.
me_jumper··on Fairphone 5 review: The most uncompromising repairable phone yet
But it's not only about the sustainability of the existing phone, Fairphone also tries to be as sustainable as possible with the sourced materials.
me_jumper··on Show HN: Subset – Spreadsheet building blocks on an infinite canvas
I like the idea. It looks like something that I would use for work.

The side looks like something that has a paid plan. Sadly I can't find any information on pricing (and if it's free, why can't I find that info?).

It's too bad I work in the public sector and due to date privacy we can't use tools like this for work, as the data is not under our control.

me_jumper··on Ask HN: What focus/coding music are you listening to these days?
Mainly some kind of instrumental Rock/Metal, like Animals as Leads or Plini. I have a huge playlist with a bunch of artists that repeats after two full work days.
me_jumper··on At this company, we are family
That's not what I'm talking about. I mean companies that brand themselves as “was are a family” not where it comes from a genuine connection between the employees.
me_jumper··on At this company, we are family
Gosh, I hate “we are a family” companies so much.
me_jumper··on Tell HN: Nearly all of Evernote’s remaining staff has been laid off
Same. Have you tried https://foambubble.github.io/foam/ ? It does some of the things Obsidian does, but is a VS Code Plugin. I really like that combination.
