mcgannon2007··on Michelangelo's first painting, created when he was 12 or 13
It isn't an original work, but actually a painted version of a famous engraving by Martin Schongauer.

mcgannon2007··on AI-enhanced development makes me more ambitious with my projects
Sort of off topic - but Django was actually created by the author of this post! But in Lawrence, KS to run a small little newspaper's site (Lawrence Journal-World). WaPo then adopted it, which was obviously a huge boon to the growth of the framework.
mcgannon2007··on What I Think About LeBron Breaking My NBA Scoring Record
On the other hand, there were 10-15 more possessions per game in Kareem's career relative to LeBron's and, on average, approximately equivalent points per game. So a lot of this is a wash.
mcgannon2007··on Sam Bankman-Fried tries to explain himself
Overnight "justice" precludes due-process which is necessary for a fairer world.
mcgannon2007··on Musk’s first email to Twitter staff ends remote work

And in this specific case, Elon's pride may make him see everyone as replaceable.

mcgannon2007··on Microsoft Edge and open source collaboration
Because then any pull request introducing something into Chromium essentially becomes the web standard. For example, Google has a ton of influence on the project. If they want to, they can introduce something that benefits their services but eschews the web standard.
mcgannon2007··on Amazon Selects New York City and Northern Virginia for New Headquarters
I assume this is a big incentive to improve those lines and Amazon will hopefully lobby for such. Similar to their support for public transportation in Seattle.
mcgannon2007··on Ask HN: Examples of well-written JavaScript/TypeScript applications?
Office Fabric React has some good React + TypeScript code that has good testing which is very necessary with the level of commit activity into a shared component library.

mcgannon2007··on Time Person of the Year 2017: The Silence Breakers
I think it makes it more concrete to have actual victims talking about specifics of their incidents and then applying those to the bigger picture. A hashtag movement is much more abstract and harder for readers to connect to, which would be less powerful and do a lesser job of getting the message across.
mcgannon2007··on Dropbox Secures $600M Credit Line Ahead of Expected IPO
Not at the crazy level they've let their valuation rise to. VCs won't accept that.
mcgannon2007··on How Uber could end up as Silicon Valley's most spectacular crash
To be fair, you could make a similar argument with a lot of these high-growth VC backed companies.
mcgannon2007··on The Not-So-Celebratory Reaction to Snap’s I.P.O. In Its Home Town
> ghost town

They've wedged themselves deeper into your mind than you even know (referring to their logo.)

mcgannon2007··on With Windows 10, Microsoft Disregards User Choice and Privacy
Universal Windows Platform. A development platform for making apps that work similarly on regular desktop Windows as well as the touch interfaces of Surface/Windows Phone, etc.
mcgannon2007··on America's High School Graduates Look Like Other Countries' High School Dropouts
I think this is due to self-selection. Generally, children who are homeschooled have parents who are obviously extremely active in their child's education - an important factor in long-term academic success. Also, homeschoolers tend to be a special group of people on either end of the intelligence spectrum which led them to decide they need the specialization not offered in regular schools. The kids applying to Stanford would be on the high end of the spectrum.
mcgannon2007··on Tableau stock down almost 50%
Microsoft now has PowerBI in its Office suite that is pretty powerful. Its a Tableau competitor that I believe is a big reason that their stock is falling. It integrates with Excel, Access, etc. and a ton of different other non-Microsoft services.
mcgannon2007··on New Windows 10 Devices From Microsoft
Yeah. PDF and XPS are two that I know for sure.
mcgannon2007··on What D3.js is Not
He doesn't assert that it doesn't work with it. Rather, the author states you shouldn't interact heavily with the DOM with both Angular and D3 - choose one to keep things simpler.
