maxscam··on Go 2.0 Error Handling Requirements
Well in my experience golang Is a long ways from this anyway ... It's a very prescriptive language
maxscam··on Riffing on `interpose` implementations in Ruby
i think refinements work on older versions than 2.4.0, not sure exactly when but i think its anything greater than 2
maxscam··on Show HN: Work at a Startup – Find a Job at a YC Company
Not everyone can get hired by a name brand company. No need to rub it in
maxscam··on The Problem with Muzak – Spotify’s bid to remodel an industry
I personally use bandcamp. You can see best sellers from basically any super niche or not so niche genre
maxscam··on The Problem with Muzak – Spotify’s bid to remodel an industry
This is really true. I used to use grooveshark, which is very similar to spotify in terms of functionality, but what it had that spotify lacks is user generated playlists. I find spotify horrible for finding new music, however once you know who you want to listen to its great.
maxscam··on Pixelbook with a fingerprint scanner may still be a reality
I would rather have a right click button
maxscam··on Ask HN: What tech were you convinced would take the world by storm but didn't?
I interviewed with you guys (didnt get hired but that's ok) and this was the first, thing that came to mind. Good luck
maxscam··on Cyclists should buy a camera to capture accident evidence
I agree, dashcams, have become very cheap, the main thing is people dont get around to it
maxscam··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
Swearing seems such a light reason though
maxscam··on The best boilerplate app is the one you code yourself
I discovered this myself, creating boilers is underrated.
maxscam··on Take Home Programming Interviews Suck
I dont think theyre equally as bad. Its too tempting to try and go above and beyond for a take home coding challenge, end up spending days on it, and get zero feedback. I would much prefer an onsite or strictly timed test than a loose deadline homework problem
maxscam··on Show HN: OSX-ISO – Create a bootable ISO of macOS from the installation app file
Does this support non osx hardware like a windows machine?
maxscam··on Ask HN:What desktop software do you use to Tag Photos automatically?
Not automatic, but I like shotwell for linux because it has bulk tagging and writes then to,the image files as metadata
maxscam··on Suicide Linux
This begs the question of what the hell is the point of the bang convention e.g. find! in this case.
maxscam··on Among other things, Paul Manafort may have also broken Airbnb’s terms of service
Call the police
maxscam··on Bitcoin mania has students flocking to crypto classes at Stanford
Or drugs.
maxscam··on Microsoft employee installs Chrome mid-presentation because Edge keeps crashing
He unchecked "send diagnostics" because he didn't want to help google. What the fuck
maxscam··on The concept of schizophrenia is dying
I was diagnosed schizoid because I was a smartass and said I could "hear things that others couldn't".
maxscam··on Facebook denies 'listening' to conversations
Oh my god stop being so dramatic, both of you. The vast majority of people are not actively contritubing to the sorry state of data privacy nor are they heroically working to fix it. Put the blame where its due.
maxscam··on Napa.js: A multi-threaded JavaScript runtime
Its a bad example because saying something is unlimited when its not is kind of bullshit not just semantics.

There are situations when I think its best to just go with the flow of how people are commonly using words but simply accepting what others say in a blanket sense is not right either. In the case of "serverless" it doesnt really matter much to me, but if you think of the word "gyp" for example thats something many people have had to make a conceited effort to stop using. So in some cases, with effort we can improve the language we use and not always be swimming against the tide.

maxscam··on ‘Origami robot’ that can be ingested
Wow this headline does not do it justice at all
maxscam··on FactoryGirl has been renamed FactoryBot
This is good. Yes factory girl is a really awkward name and I found myself pondering this as I used the tool in the past.
maxscam··on Ask HN: Ruby APIs. Which gems/frameworks are you using nowadays?
These are still a great option if you want a concisely written and highly customized program. I think there's a reason we dont see such a big framework as rails gaining popularity in the node world and thats because people don't want their code hidden behind a big boilerplate. That being said rails is still the best ruby framework for an organization looking for something "safe" and generic.
maxscam··on Announcing CoffeeScript 2
I found using the coffeescript loader for webpack solves all these problems. You cant execute cs in the browser but you still can place breakpoints in the original code. The compilation to js is not novel anyway, its the same thing as we see with ESnext just on a bigger scale.
maxscam··on Announcing CoffeeScript 2
I think its likely that at some point in the future cs will get strong type support. Iirc the creator is opposed to it but theres interest from others.
maxscam··on Announcing CoffeeScript 2
Its actually a great example of Coffeesctipt conciseness, the jQuery ready function is just $ ->
maxscam··on Announcing CoffeeScript 2
Exactly. I'm glad to see people arent absolutely shitting on it here like they have been over the past year or two, which is when I started using it,
maxscam··on Martin Shkreli jailed for offering bounty for Hillary Clinton's hair
So if somebody worth 10x as much as shkreli offered 50k for a crime we should know its a joke? Also, what is funny about this? He is a chemist, so if anything saying that he needed it for his lab would make it note believable. The justice system in this country is very cold, and a lot of people get locked up.
maxscam··on Tim Cook: Apple products aren't just for the rich
Its Also for students in debt and the "middle class".
maxscam··on Show HN: If you wear your resume will you get a job faster?
