maxhille··on Mistral raises €3B
They are now serving GLM52 and the 15€ sub comes with a nice included quota. So I get good code assist and pay a EU company for it.
maxhille··on Mistral Vibe Code: GLM 5.2 is now available
Since my local Qwen 3.8 did most of the work the recent weeks I thought about canceling my "mistral-medium" Pro subscription. But when I started the vibe-cli and saw that the context size increased to 800k, noticed that they serve GLM-5.2 now, so I'll probably keep the sub. The pricing (for now) gives me a good large quota included in my Pro subscription and the model seems very fast. Via API (hits a smaller, but different quota bucket) it even gives 1M ctx. Built a small proxy to wire it into Android Studio to work around Googles sub-par third party support.

I mean of course it is a Chinese model (like Qwen), but a quick censorship test tells me it is at least not extreme. Just like Qwen, it happily critizes the Tiananmen Square massacre and Tank Man aswell as makes fun of the Winnie Pooh ban in the PRC.

maxhille··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
That was exactly the plan in Germany when we finally had a progressive ("center-left") government coalition a couple of years ago. The plan was dragged out and eventually killed by the centrist/neoliberal coalition partner (FDP). It is extremely sad it went this way. Just think of the acceptance the people would've had: Germans might have called for higher CO2 taxes out of pure selfishness...

The OP/submitter's history basically looks what I expect coming from a US or Russian propaganda bot.

Where is fracking being done in Germany today?
maxhille··on Germany maybe found a new source of renewable energy
> You should stop relying on such low-resolution thinking when discussing a complex issue like German energy policy.

It is funny that you are criticizing my ability to reason when you are not even able to (in two comments now) even address the (as explicitly stated in my personal reply to you) single point I was making.

> This happened only because public opinion had been shaped by the movements mentioned in my previous comment for the last 40 to 50 years.

Are you implying that 1986 was a Russian propaganda plot? What/who do you mean with "movements"?

maxhille··on Germany maybe found a new source of renewable energy
Note that I won't even write answers to all the other commenters telling me that nuclear power plants are great (they are not). I will answer you because my reply was about your comment on Russian propaganda:

1. Angela Merkel and her conservative/center coalition shut down the NPPs as a direct response to the Fukushima disaster. The NPPs in Germany were never really important (something like 10% of electricity IIRC).

2. No one in Germany even knew about fracking until we learned that communities in the US now had poisoned ground water because of it. The whole thing was instantly dead forever in Germany. Yes of course the same idiots who want NPPs back also say we should do fracking, but I don't think any of that will ever happen.

So I did not want to discuss whether these decisions were wrong or not, just wanted to point out that making Russian propaganda the reason for this is a far stretch.

Regarding your point about German/European money paying for Russian bombs: You are absolutely right and it is shameful. We should have pulled the plug on Russia 2014. Do note though that Germany had Russian fossils since like the 70`s as part of ensuring peace and transformation through trade, which yes - did not work out so well in the end.

maxhille··on Germany maybe found a new source of renewable energy
So the Fukushima disaster and US polluted ground water are Russian propaganda for you?

It was always crazy to me that computers were locked down. I almost understand Karen buying an iPhone not coding her own apps, but a dev not able to deploy on their own device just felt so wrong. It made me wonder how Apple was still so popular and seemingly beloved.

In my experience that sentence never made much sense anyway. Of course over the ~25 years of Linux I had to setup/learn a lot of stuff, but usually it ended up being time well invested.

I also have an X13 Gen2 AMD. My idle power consumption is 2.5W to 4W depending on brightness. This ends up in 12h-15h (machine/battery ist 2y old I think).

I think you can improve your power settings.

How deep did you look into it? Don't be misled by maybe your manufacturer not supporting Linux directly. As an example https://github.com/berarma/oversteer helped me to set up my wheel better than any rubbish windows OEM software could have.

I use gaps in sway. My windows have margins anyway because I use a border to indicate the active window and the border uses that margin. Fortunately sway has a built-in setting be space saving eg. in single window cases (where I know the window had focus always).

I set this up many years ago and never changed it.

I mean there are different definitions on what to call an AGI. Most of the time people don't specify which one they use.

For me an AGI would mean truly at least human level as in "this clearly has a consciousness paired with knowledge", a.k.a. a person. In that case, what do the investors expect? Some sort of slave market of virtual people to exploit?

maxhille··on Reversing a Fingerprint Reader Protocol (2021)
Of course I won't, but then again I would send you pictures of any other body parts the same.

If someone gets a hand on anything you touched, they have your fingerprint. Last time you traveled to another country - did you have to give them fingerprints? Is the software running your phone closed source? Could you ambush me at night near my house and forcefully take them?

All I am saying is they are so weak as a secret that rhey should not be regarded as one.
