I spent a lot of time, and a lot of my parent's money, on Compuserve in the mid to the late eighties. For me and my best friend all our time was spent in two places. First, and absolute foremost, was Island of Kesmai. This game, and its graphical successor Legends of Kesmai, was the stuff dreams were made of for me as a kid. I still play variants of this game today. The second big draw of Compuserve was "You Guessed It!". This was a wacky multi-player trivia game show. My friend and I (both around 13) posed as young navy fighter pilots (top gun was a thing at this time). We wrote down all the questions and answers and frantically looked them up in the next games.

Compuserve was a huge part of my life at that point in time and I'm so glad it existed. I'm really glad we got away from hourly charges though.

How in the world do you remember to put gas in your car? Are you getting stranded on the side of the road with no gas all the time? Don't drive? How in the world do you manage anything else in your life? You are painting a picture that having to remember (or be reminded) to do anything in your life is 100% impossible.

Love stories like these. I miss the old internet where people just created things for the shear joy of it. I've tried my hand at two different things so far, but neither has found much steam.

I've accidently done this (email bankruptcy) a couple of times recently. We use Outlook at work and the "Mark All as Read" button is right next to the "Run Rules Now" button. After a few minutes of shock and trying to remember what was what, it was very liberating!

The insurance companies are banking on most people not having the time, energy, or knowledge on how to push back on them. Having a service provider that can do this will cause those insurance companies untold amount of pain.

Do this and then you'll have your top performers start being absent as well -- out of boredom.

I'd suggest sending kids that are lagging behind, and those that have high absentee rates, into remedial classes. Education should get kids excited about learning. From my experience, nothing gets kids more excited than the feeling that they've accomplished something. Make them sit in a room to rehash the same old crap over and over and you lose the ones you want.

Completely agree. Use a raspberry pi or just run a VM on your desktop. Do your initial learning on something contained in your home network before you experiment (and potentially get compromised) on the internet.

So many questions...did the developer realize he was putting it up for sale? Did he just have a bin full of a bunch of old CDRs? How did the person rummaging even know what they came across? Presumably the buyer then took this to the developer to purchase. Did the developer know realize what he was selling?

I'm no lawyer, but the statement "to productize the tooling we started building at Twitter" is troublesome to me. Do you have some protection from Twitter/X making a IP claim against this? I.e., can you prove you scrapped "the tooling we started building at Twitter" and began fresh?

Make them transferable and I agree. If I get the food stamps and can easily transfer them to my adult kids, that would be great. Yes, it would probably mean drug dealers will take food stamps, but whatever.

I'm positive that people working remotely can just as easily have informal meetings were they won't be recorded. In fact, I'm absolutely sure that a good segment of the workforce will make sure they have meetings in that informal sense, specifically so the recordings aren't happening.

I don't think it's fair to say that "nothing good" comes from profit. Aren't new businesses created from profit? Investors make a profit in one business and then invest in others. That in turn creates jobs and opportunities.

Problem #1 is that it doesn't meet the requirements of OP. I can't go rent Section 8 housing because I make too much money.
