mattstreet··on In Iraq, I raided insurgents. In Virginia, the police raided me
The rules about every male having a weapon and ammo went away in 2007 or so. There is a lot of regulation there about who can have a weapon or buy ammunition.
mattstreet··on Hackers Stole Secrets of U.S. Government Workers’ Sex Lives
You've got to really want a job to go through that bullshit.
mattstreet··on Looking Forward: Support for Secure Shell
If there is a defect with VPN and you gain arbitrary execution then you'd have access on the system as whatever user the VPN was running as. You don't necessarily have to break VPN and SSH.
mattstreet··on FBI notifies crime labs of errors used in DNA match calculations since 1999
I'd rather a false negative than a false positive. Too many people already feel they can't call the cops as it is when they truly need help.
mattstreet··on Mr. Robot
It's kind of weird, because people I know would have opinions about KDE vs Gnome and they didn't say anything exactly wrong, but I've never heard anyone ever talk about it like that.
mattstreet··on The In-State Tuition Break, Slowly Disappearing
This screwed me over. I couldn't get any financial help because my parents wouldn't fill the FAFSA, it wasn't until the year I turned 25 that I could get any aid or loans.

Now I'm a computer science professional pulling down a decent salary, the government lost out on about 7 years of taxes because of their policies.

mattstreet··on Downloading PuTTY Safely Is Nearly Impossible (2014)
I just started using Vagrant on Windows and I'm really liking using it through Cygwin.
mattstreet··on Let’s Build a Web Server. Part 1
Not just as documentation, it would prevent another developer from accidentally modifying it.
mattstreet··on Exploit Exercises
Instructions on how to make the vagrant box: https://gitlab.com/mjwhitta/drifter/blob/master/docs/iso_onl....

Or use the ones he's already made until he gets told to take them down: https://atlas.hashicorp.com/mjwhitta

mattstreet··on Exploit Exercises
A guy I work with already did this.

Or use the ones he's already made until he gets told to take them down: https://atlas.hashicorp.com/mjwhitta

mattstreet··on Inside the Deep Web Drug Lab
The competition is limited to entities willing to break the law and deal with other people doing the same.
mattstreet··on Why Do Cats Love Boxes?
I'm not disagreeing but I'd like to mention that two of my cats absolutely love my plastic laundry baskets.
mattstreet··on Rooftop solar is now cheaper than the grid in 42 American cities
Fossil fuels would be more expensive if someone had to pay what it would take to capture and store the pollution.
mattstreet··on The Human Toll of Flashbangs
The proper military use of flashbangs is to roll them towards the corner of a room or doorway. Not to chuck them into the room where they could land anywhere.
mattstreet··on What If Age Is Nothing but a Mind-Set?
You would think that if a person's perceptions and belief could grant a much longer life span, at least one crazy person would have provided this by living to something like 200.
mattstreet··on Show HN: ReadMe.io – Beautiful Documentation Made Easy
Okay now I can't tell if you're serious due to the last two fucking sentences.
mattstreet··on The Matasano Crypto Challenges
So I don't know what textbook to suggest but are you aware of: https://www.coursera.org/course/crypto I've heard it's pretty good.
mattstreet··on Total darkness at night key to success of breast cancer therapy
Just get a red nightlight.
mattstreet··on YouTube to Acquire Videogame-Streaming Service Twitch for $1 Billion?
And then when you're big, sell out like everyone else.
mattstreet··on Why Your Cell-Phone Bill Should Be Going Down But Isn't
I've got T-mobile for $30 a month. I live in Knoxville. It is almost not terrible when it comes to data. I put up with it because I mostly just wanted it for the occasional call and lots of texting.
mattstreet··on Matt Cutts is looking for scraper sites
I think most people would be a little unsettled and at least occasionally annoyed if when they googled something as broad as "Russia" it gave them all very specific to their industry.
mattstreet··on Colorado Pot Tax Proving More Lucrative Than Expected
And yet we build roads.
mattstreet··on Why are US corporate profits so high? Because wages are so low
Add to that the "American Dream" of owning a house and therefore being more likely to be stuck looking for work in only one area.
mattstreet··on HTTP Security headers you should be using
In this case you are protecting the client from other connections it is making at the same time, such as when they have multiple tabs open.
mattstreet··on I've been programming since I was 10, but I don't feel like a "hacker"
I think you completely missed the point. Just because an example was a LISP millionaire, doesn't mean you aren't a hacker because you aren't a LISP millionaire.

Your post comes off as if someone said you don't belong, just because they tried to take some of the most famous examples that many people would classify as hackers.

It's like if I showed you a picture of a Ferrari as an example of a car and you said, "oh, I guess my Ford doesn't count as a car, I better just walk from now one".

mattstreet··on Infection of biological DNA with digital Computer Code
All you need to encode ANYTHING in DNA is 2 or more symbols. IF nothing else you encode whatever data you want into binary.

kanji -> UTF-8 -> Binary -> DNA.

mattstreet··on 'The Mother of All Demos' Is 45 Years Old, Doesn't Look a Day Over 25
I've always heard that type of input device called a twiddler, I found one when googling "bluetooth twiddler": http://www.handykey.com/

* I'm an idiot, that was a top link because they're using the name twiddler, but they don't seem to offer bluetooth.

mattstreet··on The humble USB cable is part of an electrical revolution
Yep they make charging only cables and I THINK adapters as well, I quit looking after the first find: http://www.amazon.com/Retractable-Micro-Charging-Cables-FUNC...
mattstreet··on Soy's Negative Effects (2009)
Is this going to be your only source of information on the subject?
mattstreet··on Sex over distance using affordable consumer teledildonic robots
Oh please.
