mattblalock··on Google Doesn't Rank My Site for My Own Brand Name
If it were me, I'd just setup a PPC campaign in Google Ads and not worry about it anymore.

I'd imagine your brand name carries a low CPC, so the cost to ensure potential clients find you would be pretty low.

Use [exact match] keywords, campaign goal of clicks, and a pretty basic/clean ad with some sitelinks.

Worst case, you're really visible and it adds some authority to relevant serps.

mattblalock··on Launch HN: AgentHub (YC W24) – A no-code automation platform
Congrats on the launch!

I am wondering about your pricing and how you imagine your tool being used with so few requests... I might manually use 150 GPT4 requests in a day... but your $97/mo plan includes 150/mo?

mattblalock··on Achieving Peak Pasture
I think we need pasture... some interesting perspectives in this piece. I think we should probably stay focused on nourishment, as a society. Not the opposite, but thank you for sharing this propaganda.
mattblalock··on Nest for showers
Sounds awesome!
mattblalock··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses?
Man, 3 days is nothing!

Give me some time to fall in love, and I'll happily pay. It seems so shortsighted, as if I'd somehow use up all the usefulness of your app in 7 days or perhaps even 30 days.

Its a tool for work, and if it can reduce my load in any significant way I'd pay $500 for it. Now, I'll never really know. Too bad... for both of us.

mattblalock··on Mega has launched
Hrm, I use Spaces and Chrome with no problems. This isn't the case for everyone.
mattblalock··on A Lawyer/Photographer Just Deleted All Her Pinterest Boards Out Of Fear
Everything fun in life boils down to that, eh?
mattblalock··on A Lawyer/Photographer Just Deleted All Her Pinterest Boards Out Of Fear
I would say the act of "Pinning" an article of digital content is an act of comment. It is shorthand for "This is really interesting to me. Maybe you'll like it too?"
mattblalock··on Ask HN: Faking it until you make it?
Just go for it. Don't worry so much about things like this. Give your project passion, that's all it needs.

In my mind, this is the same as asking if its okay to not use linen for my biz cards.. it doesn't matter.

mattblalock··on Show HN: I made a site that rings a bell every time you have a new customer
I've worked with numerous retailers who use something like this. Usually an eMail server just makes a ping when a payment notification comes in.

During peak seasons (read: December) at an ecommerce company of mine a few years ago, we did pretty much exactly this. We used a cash register sound, though. Played it into the office and warehouse so everybody knew how fast things needed to be going. Totally worked, the faster the register went, the harder everyone worked.

mattblalock··on Take me to Silicon Valley: 19 year old designer seeking opportunity
Hrm. Didn't notice boobs, wondering if Filip is really smart and knows it will lure men in... very good sales pitch, IMHO.
mattblalock··on Ask HN: My Congressman invited me to meet re: SOPA, what would you tell him?
What technologies does he use? How would those be affected?

This. If they understand that the tools they utilize everyday would not exist had SOPA been enacted in 1991... and it continues to move with support, we know the rafts are safer than this boat...

mattblalock··on Poll: Did you transfer your domains from GoDaddy today?
Same here.... The elephant was it for me, too. This drives the nail deeper.
mattblalock··on Louis CK's self distributed special up to 1MM revenue in 12 days
Those donations put a pretty big dent in that evaluation, he may be near the clear.
mattblalock··on Facebook Is Making Us Miserable
HackerNews makes me sad sometimes, too. Seeing everyone's successes, silly stories with the gang, witty blog post, mind-blowing hockey-stick-shaped-charts of "how we got to our 900 millionth user!" ... I'm working 12 hour days doing like 11 jobs, making just enough money to convince myself "in just a few months" I'll find that thing that ticks and then it'll be us making hockey-stick-shaped-growth-charts and finally buying that island ive had my eye on... but even then, the island isn't totally private, so i should probably work harder then i can get a bigger and more private island, one that is fire-resistant and erosion-proof. But shit, look, is that guy competing with me? Do I need to burn his island down? Are there enough customers? Where's the money gone? Wait, why aren't there any customers? Where's all this retail revenue going? I don't see them in the stores, the postal service can barely make ends meet (must not be ecommerce), and then the search volume is low, too, but the customers are coming in, we're selling stuff, we promise... not in America, you're not.

........

I've noticed that by cutting out HN, I am happier and feel more positive about my business.

mattblalock··on Tell HN: Launch an App month, Ship it in the next 30 days
Yeah, community playlists. StereoMood sort of does it... I think more with tags, like you suggest.

I always want something me and my music nerd friends can play with and share. Like keep a playlist going in the office but let any people add to it.

Google Docs for playlists?

mattblalock··on Tell HN: Launch an App month, Ship it in the next 30 days
I'm launching an app to organize & evaluate business ideas.

mattblalock··on Tell HN: Launch an App month, Ship it in the next 30 days
How about editable playlists? Allow users to make suggested revisions and additions, letting a playlist evolved without the OP...

I've longed for someone to do it... something akin to StereoMood with a little bit of TurnTable.fm activity to it.

mattblalock··on Ask HN: Is there any interest in a blog that discusses futuristic products?
I'm always interested in futuristic products, especially in the context of reality.
mattblalock··on Ask HN: How Can We Help Make HN a Better Online Community?
What kind of crawler is it stopping?

Just makes our experience bad.

mattblalock··on Ask HN: How Can We Help Make HN a Better Online Community?
I read and enjoyed your post. Like you, I too was disappointed the conversation was political... I was hoping for more startup oriented conversation.
mattblalock··on Fake apple stores
I'm wondering if this isn't a real Fake Apple Store... as in, Apple recognizes the need to develop that market and also recognizes the fact that their products are prohibitively expensive for those customer - to avoid diluting the Apple brand, build "Apple Stoers" selling the merchandise at a deep discount.

These new Apple Stoers would be very functional and serve the company on many levels. Quickly test new markets with low risk, introduce the Mac at a lower price point, and eventually could be replaced with Real Apple Stores in strong markets.

As the Chinese economy develops, the price of the merchandise increases (maybe shifting from store to store?) and in a few decades they have a stronghold on the edgy cool market of top-of-the-line-computers in the new world market, but also have one on the lower-end Apple Stoer brand.

Sounds like a good plan, just seems strange that we're all talking about it though...

mattblalock··on Can Turntable.fm Survive Its Popularity?
I used the service for about a week before being booted... in the US. Suddenly, I don't have a Facebook friend on the "inside" or something...

It's really fun but not working 99% of the time. Right idea, poor implementation. Guess the "social listening" sector is still wide open.
