matt-attack··on ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users
Voice Assistant is still available and you can revert to it instead of Siri in Settings.
matt-attack··on Why I tend not to use content negotiation
Is don’t think I that hash method would work since that part of the URL isn’t sent to the server. It’s strictly used by the client to decide which part of the response we to show.

Server has no need for it.

matt-attack··on I visited over 120 EV chargers: why so many were broken
Don’t forget gas pumps also have to remove and store vapors from the vehicles’ tanks. So I agree, waaaay more complicated. Other than contractors, I’d imagine there are no moving parts on an ev charger.
matt-attack··on James Webb Space Telescope finds 2 of the most distant galaxies ever seen
But if information can only travel at the speed of light shouldn’t we consider the events being observed way out there as “now”? For all intents and purposes information couldn’t have gotten here any sooner so it might as well be “now”.
matt-attack··on 31% of millionaires say they're part of the middle class
House price is meaningless. It’s home equity that matters. Someone with a million dollar house likely owns a good chunk on it.
matt-attack··on Omegle 2009-2023
I had a friend who would say the following the middle aged female friends who didn’t have daughters:

Did your mom have a daughter? Female answers “yes”

Did her mom have a daughter? Yes

Did her mom have a daughter? Yes

This lineage of course extends beyond even human history back to Proto life forms.

And then you end it with “after all that, you’re ending the legacy by not having a daughter”.

matt-attack··on California EV sales top% through Q3, with Tesla's Model Y leading the way
It’s pretty amazing how far we’ve come. It really is just perfectly reasonable to own a Tesla now days. The charging is so incredibly ubiquitous and simple that it’s just a non-issue (I personally wouldn’t consider any other charging system out there until they jump to NACS full stop. The differences are just unacceptable).

One thing that I wasn’t expecting was that for 95% of the cases because you’re charging at home every night it’s actually more convenient than ICE since you’re basically starting every day with a full charge. No need to go stop somewhere to fuel up.

matt-attack··on Jury Finds Realtors Conspired, Awards Nearly $1.8B in Damages
I don't even understand the idea of "showing places". Every time I purchased a home, I scoured Zillow, drove myself to open houses, and when I was ready to make an offer, called my Agent. Sure occasionally there is a property that doesn't have open houses and it on lockbox and you have to have your agent let you in, but honestly the last thing I want it them following me around the house (that's not even their own listing). They were always there just b/c they could open the door.

Have connections, have established trust with the elite. Not saying it's worth $5M but it is indeed something.
matt-attack··on Jury Finds Realtors Conspired, Awards Nearly $1.8B in Damages
My understanding is that in some markets if you try to negotiate anything less that 6% you're just blacklisted. They lock arms and no one will accept it.
matt-attack··on Use YouTube to improve your English pronunciation
Geez I hope that non-natives don’t use this example for courage.

It was the first example I clicked on and it’s clearly someone else speaking that word with her own accent.

matt-attack··on Almost half of Gen Z viewers want less sex on screen, study finds
Just because a group of fanatical prudes (ie Mormons and and other religious sects) wanted edited versions says nothing about what the majority want nor about what’s profitable. For all we know that group represents a thin minority.
matt-attack··on Hertz is scaling back its EV ambitions because its Teslas keep getting damaged
How is that possible? They make money on buying new cars in bulk and then selling them as used cars? I’m struggling to understand how flipping a depreciating asset is a profit center.
matt-attack··on iOS Single App Mode Escape
A beautiful example of hacking. Didn’t disable the primary function of the device nor did he profit from a scheme. Just messed with the usage in a humorous way. Bravo.
matt-attack··on TSA let a gun on flight: WA state senator arrested in Hong Kong
Wow really? One purpose?

Did you ever hear of target practice? Or marksmanship? You do know it’s an Olympic event right? Do you feel the same about archery? Or darts? Clearly whoever made darts so sharp and pointy was making a statement that they exist only to puncture skin, right?

matt-attack··on Realtors Face an Antitrust Reckoning
Agree. A listing agent would much rather that the house sells for 2M than try to eke another 100k out of it and risk the house sitting on the market for months. The 3% of the incremental amount is just not enough to matter. They’re incentivized only by getting the deal done. Full stop.
matt-attack··on Realtors Face an Antitrust Reckoning
But in the end it’s the buyer and only the buyer that sets the sale price. The listing agent can downplay all they want or “offer” whatever made up price they want but it’s all meaningless. The buyer committing to a given number, comes out of their head only, and is the only thing that sets the values in real estate. And agents can think they influence that number but it’s minimal at best.
matt-attack··on Real Estate Brokers Pocketing Up to 6% in Fees Draw Antitrust Scrutiny
Pretty sure most clients are the ones decided what to see. The days of going to an agent and saying “take me to see three house that fix my needs. My needs are X, Y & Z”. For the last decade it’s been “I found these houses on line, popped in the open houses on my own and I’m interested in this one. Write me an offer.”

I agree with that. I avoid most apps.

Airline apps haven’t been problematic though. I give location only while using the app. And I’ve never received advertising notifications.

It’s quite nice to pull down an eticket into Apple Wallet and have it on my watch.

matt-attack··on Teens inundated with phone prompts day and night, research finds

matt-attack··on Teens inundated with phone prompts day and night, research finds
Why order using the phone anyway? Why give them that sweet sweet data?

I use Apple Pay exclusively at Starbucks. They haven’t a clue who I am.

matt-attack··on Teens inundated with phone prompts day and night, research finds
Slightly off topic but another thing I noticed that’s infuriating me, is that podcast are now injected with local ads. I’m. It sure how they’re getting location data since iOS has extremely tight and secure authorizations for location access (even within their own internal processes). How can I be offered the ability to control whether Compass Calibration or Apple Pay Merchant verification get to use my location but not podcast advertisements??
matt-attack··on Detroit man steals 800 gallons using Bluetooth to hack gas pumps at station
Yep mine cuts off at $100. Really annoying since I can’t even fill up entirely with that.
matt-attack··on FEMA and FCC Plan Nationwide Emergency Alert Test for Oct. 4
Just wait until you find out that the child in that garbage amber alert was never in any danger, and was merely stuck in a custody dispute between two quarreling parents. Most amber alerts are just one parent taking their own child from the other parent. I have no reason to believe that the police are on the right side of such a custody dispute so I will never participate in an Amber alert.
