masterof0··on Show HN: I Made a Ramen Meter
I would add what "Ramen Meter" is meant to signify in the webpage. Looks nice!
masterof0··on Show HN: ChatGPT-powered dystopia simulator
Like this one: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/americans-no-fly-list-fea... ? I personally lived in China for quiet a long time, I learned about the social credit system when I moved to the US, in the news. But I know that goes against what the establishment, and we should just hate other countries, no matter what, because everything here is just dandy. Ironically, I did see many real problems in China, but those don't get picked by CNN.
masterof0··on Millions of Americans nearing retirement age with no savings
Yup, people just save enough money to get to an assisted living facility, hoping strangers will take care of them for money. Very sad.

masterof0··on Loyal to the Company
What value besides money? A company paying a employee to be "loyal" is nothing more than a business transaction, and "loyal" really is "please, don't go to another company, we will pay you to stay here". I'm assuming the employee is not also the owner.
masterof0··on Mozilla removes Bypass Paywalls Clean extension from its add-ons repository
if the journalist works for the newspaper, then the dichotomy falls apart. Journalists that are independent can use platforms like Substack, where their readers would pay them.
masterof0··on Mozilla removes Bypass Paywalls Clean extension from its add-ons repository
Nobody is forcing people who want to pay, to not pay. Most news papers make more or their money from advertisers, promotions, and such sources.
masterof0··on Loyal to the Company
I have yet to see a company where the "loyal" employees are paid more than those who leave for a better salary, or are exempt from laid off. I feel like "Company Loyalty" is one of those nonsensical ideas boomers left to the younger generation.
masterof0··on An antidote to envy
True. Something I learn when I came years ago to the US, is you don't have to be awesome at anything, being normal, working hard and keeping in mind principles like "spend less than what you make" already put you above 90% of people. Most folks are lazy out there in the real world. You don't need to grind super hard.
masterof0··on An antidote to envy
Those "legit" individuals are so rare, that instead of feeling envy, I just feel curiosity, and the desire to learn from them. But so far, I don't know of anyone. I'm sure there are a few, but I haven't met anyone in person that deserves the "legit" label.
masterof0··on The Future of Thunderbird
Thunderbird used to be a Native email client, that was awesome. I want an native email client, contacts and calendar. That's it. I dislike the browser tabs inside Thunderbird (I already use Firefox), either make a web version or keep the native version native. Most of the Thunderbird user base, are the ones that preferred the OG version. Not everything have to be a webview. Maybe they don't want users like me anymore. And that is fine. Is just feel sad, I miss the old Thunderbird.
masterof0··on Stop the proposal on mass surveillance of the EU
Sure, let's make everyone to walk around naked. Let's also make sure, that everyone knows what is going on in your life, where you and your loved ones live, what they buy, how much money they make, what they say, ....... Your argument is ridiculous.
masterof0··on Stop the proposal on mass surveillance of the EU
The alternative would be China-style surveillance state, and be cool with it? Nice
masterof0··on Stop the proposal on mass surveillance of the EU
It doesn't need to be a "World New Order" for three letter agencies lobbying to increase surveillance, and hence their power over the people. You are right, bureaucrats are clueless, but they don't need to be sharp, the agencies that will benefit from violating people's privacy and right already are. The is no possible good coming from those laws, the argument of "saving the children" falls flat, because you could extended to anything, "ban knives because children could cut themselves", etc... Privacy is a right, and those agencies(also known as deep state) pushing lawmakers to subvert it, are doing in to control people indeed.
masterof0··on Blogging is not dying anytime soon
Videos are harder to fake and produce, I would say impossible, any of the OpenAI products are unable to be creative.
masterof0··on Blogging is not dying anytime soon
The final nail in the coffin is ChatGPT, the greatest spam generation tool ever made. I imagine bots, SEO gurus, and the like are having a great time now.
masterof0··on Tell HN: From $200/mo to $18k in 5 years as solo founder
With all due respect, I find what you claim to be highly unlikely, if you are comparing lifestyle in downtown Delhi(or wherever rich people live) with a poor area in the UK, then maybe? But otherwise is crazy. If that were the case, companies wouldn't outsource to India, they will just hire locally then.
masterof0··on Coinbase’s chief product officer will leave with a $105M payday
> populated by people who are either participating in or funding startups themselves

Citation needed.

masterof0··on Coinbase’s chief product officer will leave with a $105M payday
That's a fallacy, those CEO's wouldn't be elsewhere making more, otherwise they would. That's just a trick they use to convince people of supporting with (in most cases tax free donations) their ridiculous life style. Another reason I prefer donating directly to people who need it, or volunteering. A person who is making 3M/year in an organization, is not the "sacrifice myself for the people" type, let's stop fouling ourselves.
masterof0··on Tell HN: From $200/mo to $18k in 5 years as solo founder
I can only imagine your lifestyle in India with $18,036 / month , that's probably the equivalent of making 60k a month in the US? Wish you the best, I'm inspired.

Make housing accessible to regular folks. So they have a place to live, and raise their kids. Why is so hard?
masterof0··on Expanding Features for End-to-End Encryption on Messenger
No you are not, many companies have warrant canaries. Or make public the warrants, and state exactly all the information they can share with the authorities, that is usually nothing besides IP, or device the customer used to connect. My point was that Facebook will decrypt(in the case that are really encrypted) your messages.
masterof0··on Expanding Features for End-to-End Encryption on Messenger
> I think some users might be happy that the average FB engineer can't just see all their messages. Maybe not the regular L4 SDE, but the people who are supposed to see it, can and will see it.
masterof0··on Expanding Features for End-to-End Encryption on Messenger
Nah, at least for me , all my friends(mostly faang SDEs) use iMessage, even the ones working at Google's Android team. The people who own Android devices, I know that in other countries outside the US, Android phone are way more popular(accessible), but I was referring in the US. Regarding features, the integration of iMessage with iOS is superior, I don't get what features of WhatsApp you are talking about, I don't think people who use iMessage would want to broadcasts stuff in channels, etc...
masterof0··on Expanding Features for End-to-End Encryption on Messenger
I agree with baby here, iMessage ate their lunch long ago, their competition is Kakao, Line, and the likes, not even Wechat, as they have 0 presence in China, and they are far behind features wise.
masterof0··on Expanding Features for End-to-End Encryption on Messenger
Taking into account that they are known to work closely with the FBI. So what they call e2ee cryptography is ridiculous. Their business is built off violating users privacy, why would anyone trust them? They've got your keys. Signal exists for this very reason.
masterof0··on Show HN: Ecode – A minimalist and fast open-source code editor
You made a very nice editor, dismiss that clown. You are clearly also a great person. Do you have a channel for us to provide feedback or interact with the community? like a Matrix server, or should we just open issues in your repo?.
