maresca··on This Man's $600K Facebook Disaster Is a Warning For All Small Businesses
After seeing a few stories like this, it seems facebook advertising makes sense for one thing: buying likes. When one of us sees a site with 11.2K likes, we would know better. But the average user might not.

Fake it until you make it.

maresca··on Introducing Bing Code Search for C#
C# and .NET get a bad rap for being created by Microsoft. But one thing that can't be ignored is how polished their development tools are. I absolutely love coding in Visual Studio.
maresca··on You might not need jQuery
There are many things you don't need to do. I'll take the time saved in development over cutting out an extra framework.
maresca··on Our Culture of Exclusion (or, why I'm not going to *conf)
The handful of Philly tech meetups I've been to haven't even had 1/5th of the attendees go to the bar afterward. I'd like to think we have it under control here.
maresca··on In a world with .XYZ, .APP, .BIKE and more, will there still be love for .COM?
I'd love to see some rules in the future where a domain has to be used. Something needs to be done about domain squatters. It's getting out of hand.
maresca··on Windows 7 'back by popular demand', says HP as it targets wary consumers
I've noticed over the years that every other Windows release is good. The next version should be good.

Win 8 - Crappy

Win 7 - Good

Vista - Crappy

XP - Good

etc.

maresca··on Estimated Cost to Store All US Phone Calls Made in a Year
The point is that even quadrupled, the number is so low, it's a drop in the bucket for the government.
maresca··on Operation Troll The NSA
Until they add an ignore rule specifically for this text.
maresca··on How not to be alone
On the topic of technology ruining human interaction: I recently read an idea worth trying. When you go out with friends for drinks, take everyones phone and stack them face down with yours on top. The rule is the first person to grab their phone pays the tab. I used to make fun of friends that were engrossed with their phones by acting like I was texting on an invisible phone. But, this works much better.
maresca··on White House admits it has 'access' to Facebook, Google
I don't think it's a stretch to think the government has the ssl keys. Or the ability to find the ssl keys.
maresca··on White House admits it has 'access' to Facebook, Google
If it's going over the wire, you can bet they have access to it, with or without 'access.'

maresca··on NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily
I'm not saying they are, I'm only saying they can.
maresca··on NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily
They can hear everything you say at any given time, even if your phone is off. Only removing the battery can prevent this. If you think this is a stretch, you are sorely mistaken.
maresca··on Beardvertising
This is ridiculous...

...ly awesome.

maresca··on What would you guys like to see in an anonymous company wall?
Try explaining that better. There's 3 possible people that could need an account depending on how you look at it.

1. An email account to create a wall for an organization.

2. A person in that organization so they can comment about their own organization.

3. A random person that wants to comment on an organization.

I'm not sure which you're targeting.

maresca··on What would you guys like to see in an anonymous company wall?
>>Only people with a verified company email address can join your company network.

What's anonymous about that?

maresca··on Congress takes aim at patent trolls
They aren't failing to see what they've created with CFAA/SOPA/PIPA. They know exactly what they're doing and occasionally feigning ignorance.
maresca··on OAuth.io - OAuth that just works.
This REALLY could have helped me a week ago. Two oauth consumers later, it's not as easy as it seems.
maresca··on Watch this homemade ‘lightsaber’ quickly burn through everything
When you use something like this, do you have to have the laser bouncing into some type of mirror? Is the laser burning his walls while not burning the objects? Or does it's power diminish over longer distances?
maresca··on A Line Of Cards Tells Millennials Living With Mom and Dad To GTFO
An anecdote: If you ever take a tour of Amish country in Pennsylvania, most of the houses have two or three generations living in them. What the Amish do is put an addition onto the house for another generation of family. It's been that way for a long time and will be in the future.
maresca··on Recruit this
I've had to login to my phone provider's website and block numbers on two separate occasions. If I don't pick up after calls/voicemails every day for a week straight and you continue to call, you are doing your job wrong.
maresca··on The dying platform: .Net
There's something about WCF that rubs me the wrong way. I like coding Web Services. WCF just feels like bloat on top of web services. And traditional web services can be used cross-platform. I'm not sure WCF can. Maybe I'm just sticking with not fixing something that's not broken.
maresca··on The dying platform: .Net
I've been programming .NET since 1.1 and love the platform. It just works. But, I pick my technologies carefully. I called silverlight not working out. I've been staying away from WCF/WPF. No one writes in the news when something goes right, only wrong. This article is more rabble rousing than anything. You can focus on the things that are going wrong. If you are putting out new technologies, some are going to fail. That's the nature of the game.
maresca··on Department of Homeland Security Bans Dwolla Transfers To or From Mt. Gox
Doesn't something like this compel people to use bitcoin more rather than less?
maresca··on Tesla’s Disappearing Data
http://publiceditor.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/18/problems-wi...

Because Elon made them look dumb.

maresca··on Leap Transit
Bad name choice if you're going for originality.

maresca··on LinkedIn: The Creepiest Social Network
I'm usually pretty careful about picking technologies and websites to use. I've steered clear of linkedin and as time goes on, I'm pretty happy with that decision.
maresca··on Glowing Plants: Natural Lighting with no Electricity
I would be pretty happy if I could make a room in my house look like a scene from Avatar.
maresca··on Ask HN: Share your startup ideas (May 2013).
I'm currently working on something close: location based notes.

maresca··on Show HN: we like to work from coffee shops, so we made this
Velcro would work.
