So maybe that might be a way in ?
Can you trust your information stored at your messaging app's servers stay secure forever? Can you trust that company to never get compromised? So yeh, they go through all the hassle of making things "secure" but attach everything to something(phone number) most of us can't get without revealing our actual details. So yeh, its ridiculous to go through all this hassle to make things private and secure, but force people to use something that de-anonymizes everything about them.
But I agree with you, asking for the phone number and telling me this app is secure is ridiculous. Let me register with something less intrusive, if I want to go the phone number way, then let me use that. Give me an option.
Guess theres no one “only” way to do it. Suppose you gotta do what feels right for you, experiment, iterate and find something that makes you happy to do what you do.
If I am not happy doing something solo whats the use going solo and If I am not happy co-founding whats the use of doing it with a team?
I usually try something on my local machine and switch to the server and do this back and forth and sometimes the other way around, I have a test server where I test something before trying it on my local machine. Having the same text editor on all of these environments mean I don't have to context switch much, also I have my own custom config which I have been improving over the years and the fact I have multiple vim instances running right now and they are all consuming less than 120MB memory and the fact it responds really really fast is a really nice addition.
When I first started using vim I remember I asked one of my friends the following, "what the hell is wrong with people, why do they love using this god awful garbage" I remember my friend asking me to keep trying for a little while longer. Thank heavens I took his advice, I can't really remember when it happened but one day it just made sense.
Then I saw a neovim config file, and how good it looked with lua scripting, changed my old vim config in to a neovim one, and now I use neovim.
(plus I still have trust issues with a certain multi billion dollar company)
For anyone wondering, there's a previous discussion on this article on HN[1]
>>As much as we love exciting new features, we also want to see people create games on the full spectrum of devices for everyone to enjoy.
This is one of the main attitudes of the Godot team I really appreciate a lot. It might be easy for people in more developed nations to upgrade their hardware every few years, but there's people still playing games running on computers from 2002 and before. I used to know of a player who used to play (an old MMORPG) games on a computer he aimed a table fan at to keep it cool. The whole casing was open, it was kinna funny to look at it and it had hardware he got as a birthday gift more than 10 years ago. He played that old MMORPG because newer games wouldn't even start on that old thing. But most people who played that MMO were in the same boat, it was one of the very few ones they could run.
The requirements for some of the games coming out these days is sometimes so insane a lot of people from around the world are unable to play them. I always found it funny how we had so much developer time wasted on supporting ie6 because a small percentage of people were unable to upgrade their browsers, but when it comes to gaming, all bets were off and you are now expected to spend a few grand a year on upgrading your computer to play newer games. And don't get me started on the bandwidth costs to play some of the new games.
Then they signed me up for a newsletter, blocked their domain and stopped using them ever-since.
I don’t know man, I think that’s pretty advanced technology.
We went from room sized transistors to nm sized ones in less than a century. No way we will need a billion years to catch up.
Same, this is amazing, loved the site and spent more time on there than I expected. Really well done OP. This is one of the best things I have seen here on HN. Thank you OP.
One of the first things I tried with them. I have the option to down-rank websites I don't like. I can block or lower their ranking.
It starts with a cause we all can get behind, sometimes its "think of the children", another time it's regulating information from people supporting orcs, and who knows, how do I know things I care about might get suppressed in the future? Stop the nonsese, let me be the judge of what I consume.
The other instance I remember was the whole ms tracking situation[2], if your whole selling point is "Privacy simplified" then do just that without all the nonsese. There were a few others (#duckduckgone) before I stopped using them.

Hated what g! was becoming, so I started using ddg, liked it at first but had to often modify my queries with a g! but I still used it, the experiance was't great, but it somehow worked, then the controversies around ddg started to come out. At the end of the day you gotta keep the lights on, if your users are not your customers then someone else is going to have to help you pay the bills.
Used kagi since it was recommended here on hn. Used it for a week(-ish) and instantly fell in love with it, the lenses feature, the ability to rank search results meant I could block out websites I hated seeing on my search results and boosting the ones I cared about. Now I am a paying customer.
Oh yeh, one more thing, for the past few months I don't remember a single instance of me modifying my queries with !g. Now I promote them every chance I get, I even got called a paid shill on reddit a few weeks back :D .
Would be really grateful if anyone would share a list of companies that are fully open with their employees?
Sorry I have nothing else to add to your comment, but I just wanted to say I love your analogy. I am stealing this one.
0 to 60 overnight sounds like a very disastrous thing for a company to do, like a big ol bait and switch. I would immediately stop using that company and find alternatives, and I am guessing it will be the same for a lot of people too.
At 60usd a month for 5 people, a developer should be able to buy a few servers(~4) for less than $30-$40, selfhost something like gitea with drone.
Their free support was good, but we decided to pay for the ~60usd a month premium support and we even had some video calls with one of their engineers who worked with us to help mitigate the issues.
Agreed. But in the context of a brand-name I guess celebrity endorsements helps increase the number of people who know about your project.
As for the Adam Sandler coin HA!, but I bet there will be many who will buy this on the promise of getting rich quick by loading off on the greater fool sort of way.
There's many people including celebrities who are willing to pay huge sums of money to be part of that exclusive club. So the value of yuga lab's is not only in them coming up with some web3 game, it definitely isn't going to be their "endgame" as the author claims. Their brand they have so much more opportunities to add value to their eco-system.
[edit] To the ones who are down-voting this post, maybe explain why you are down-voting this, so I can understand what exactly I said that's wrong here.

We need to fix the root of the problem, we need to find sustainable alternatives to energy production, protect natural ecosystems, find sustainable ways to make use of resources, not put some god damn sunroof over our heads and get an extension on dealing with this problem.
