makuro··on Court OKs Barring High IQs for Cops
While I, too, found that part intriguing, the article mentions that the guy has been working as a prison guard since being rejected. Could be that he just wanted to make money by being a police officer and that department missed out on a great hire. Not to mention the fact that the nature of the work can definitely change as long as they're promoting from within.
makuro··on Ask HN: What do you use for Django integration with Facebook
Also, rather important note, if you are using (or see another library using) python-oauth2, note that that is _not_ providing OAuth 2.0 draft support.

It implements OAuth version 1.0 (check the source: https://github.com/simplegeo/python-oauth2/blob/master/oauth... and search for "Blaine")

makuro··on Ask HN: What do you use for Django integration with Facebook
Django-facebook is the only one I know of that will support the Graph API right now: https://github.com/tschellenbach/Django-facebook

For just the fundaments:

Facebook's own SDK: https://github.com/facebook/python-sdk/blob/master/examples/...

or

Requests: http://docs.python-requests.org/en/latest/index.html

If you need more providers, there's also Django SocialAuth, but I'm not sure if it's updated for Facebook's OAuth 2 stuff yet.

makuro··on Ask HN: Summer Internships in the Bay Area?
You might want to give InternMatch a try:

http://www.internmatch.com

They've also got a competition going. Not sure what timeframe its internships are for, but here's a link:

makuro··on [dead]
Apparently, they sell software that adds mouseover hotspots to photos (revealing an informative div, like Flickr, Facebook, or Bing). It costs $4000. :/
makuro··on Building connections with open source information - NNDB network visualizer
This thing has been around for ages (hence the Flash). NNDB is kind of a weird thing, though, being created by the Soylent Communications people. I wonder how many people are charged with keeping it updated and whether some wiki features are in the works.
makuro··on Show HN: Crondom
Why is it called Crondom? It sounds a bit like some form of 'protection' for cron.
makuro··on How to delete cookies, cache and history in all major browsers
Also, for Windows, CCleaner.

How many times is this going to be posted?
makuro··on AMD's Zacate E-350 Fusion Processor Benchmarked, Beats Intel Atom/NVIDIA Ion 2
I would love to see a hearkening back to those glory days of AMD product towering over Intel's Netburst, even if it's not in the "performance" segment of processors. This type of competition has only brought good things.
makuro··on Queen's Facebook page hit by torrent of abuse
I was expecting something about Freddie Mercury.
makuro··on Microsoft furious at $2,000 bounty for open source Kinect drivers
$2,000 seems low, really. The people who would be intrigued in this situation are doing it for the challenge and the glory. Two thousand would be an OK cherry on top, but if you really want to sweeten the deal, I bet with a Kickstarter you could get ten times that amount.
makuro··on Javascript: is 'this' a code smell?
http://www.amazon.com/JavaScript-Patterns-Stoyan-Stefanov/dp...

Boom. Get it while it's hot.

makuro··on Evilgrade is like Firesheep for Software Updates
Seems like something metasploit would do. If you're a budding security nut and you haven't tried some 'sploitin, you should definitely give it a go.
makuro··on Ask HN: Is PHP/MySQL Still Practical for Building Web Applications?
These answers are all pretty long. The answer is yes, definitely, without a doubt. Practical means "for use in practice" and PHP powers a lot of your daily web applications, especially the simpler ones. Judging from your question text, at your skill level, PHP is sufficient if not ideal for development, deployment, and performance.

MySQL is also fast and easy.

makuro··on Ymacs -- An Emacs-like editor for the Web
It would be nice if the code could end up in github. Also, more importantly, I need to disable that cursor blinking (peripheral blinky things make me feel like dying).
makuro··on [dead]
Seems a bit off-topic, combatively presented, and oversimplified. Then again, I guess attention doesn't garner itself.
makuro··on VICI.tv - Just turned YouTube into TV (just for fun)
While this is true, am I missing something? VICI.tv doesn't have a fullscreen button. At most it just takes up 100% of the width of the browser window.

Unrelatedly, I am really enjoying this, but also am wondering if it was a conscious design decision to remove the progress bar? Usually TV ends on the 00, 15, 30, 45 minute marks, but here it's hard to predict when the current clip will end.

makuro··on Cli Twi - dead simple Twitter client
I like the project; I don't know how I feel about the name.
makuro··on Remote Desktop Client for iPad
Why is this considered new(s)? iTeleport and several other apps have supported iDevice Remote Desktop-ing for quite a while.
makuro··on Facebook's data export is broken
This is true, Chrome works no problem. Real slashes are the right method, though. Running it through Firefox (I'm on 3.6) would have revealed the issue.
makuro··on Facebook's data export is broken
I was kind of surprised to see it available so quickly. I heard the high-resolution photo announcement what seems like months ago and I just checked; still don't have it. Maybe I heard the announcement wrong?
makuro··on Warn HN: When PayPal doesn't know the meaning of "Donation"...
Frozen accounts can only stay frozen for so long. Worst case, after 90 days they'll deactivate the account and send you a check.
makuro··on 99 Out Of 100 Programmers Can’t Program – I Call BS
I was hoping for something more concrete. For instance, consider that terrible programmers stay in the job market for a long time, so you may encounter them more often. Also, if you're not doing your own recruitment, non-technical, keyword-seeking recruiters can be a hindrance to finding good people.

This post just seems to be emphatically reasking the question "Really, guys? Really??"

makuro··on Idea to ($0.07) profit in 7 hours
Rule number 1 of the club: No offensive names or locations

And member #7 (of 24 thus far) is named Tits McGhee, from Whale's Vagina (a slang term for San Diego, it seems.)

makuro··on New Sproutcore Demo: Family Tree
I've given SproutCore at least 3 chances over the last year. I like it better than Cappuccino, but it's just so buggy. UKI for life, though. It's not quite the same, but it's makin my day, day after day. http://ukijs.org/
