maiorana··on Safer Lithium Ion Batteries with New Separators
Article I wrote about this start-up doing battery separator innovation. Happy to try and field and questions here, but founder's email is at the end if anyone is interested.
maiorana··on [dead]
The writer did a great job highlighting how easy it is to transition to tech <1 year of work via re-skilling for under $100.
maiorana··on FDA moves to make over-the-counter hearing aids available
I see an expansion area for Warby Parker!
maiorana··on U.S. says Arizona and Nevada will get less water from Colorado River
I wonder what will happen first: 1) water pipelines being built or 2) people moving away from states where it's difficult to sustain a typical western life or 3) people in these states figure out that they need to change their way of life in order to keep living in the desert?
maiorana··on Hydrogen Planes Show Promise–and Their Limitations
I suspect hydrogen will be a head fake that everyone will be talking about in 10 years and how much money was wasted on it.
maiorana··on Thinking About How to Choose a Life
Super interesting article around how to think about making decisions and asking what we want out of life. I think most youngish people these days feel restless including myself, but we don't necessarily know why.
maiorana··on Carbon offsetting is just another form of greenwashing
would also need a way to generate steam without natural gas. Maybe nuclear, but that's just as unrealistic right now.

Steam is used to heat a lot of things outside of power generation and without steam our economy falls apart and this means without natural gas we are fucked.

maiorana··on Ask HN: Career Advice
Go find yourself a better job that pays more and will give you the ability to manage others (maybe harder now than it was last year?).

If you really like the work you are doing at the current company then use that offer to get the promotion. It's not clear though if you want to manage people or if you just want more money.

Always good to heat check your earning potential every 2 years though.

yeah, that's excessive on the project/product management aspect.
maiorana··on Ten years with a Citroën C6 (2021)
I have a 2006 Subaru Forester with the turbo engine. I've replaced the exhaust, radiator, fixed numerous oil leaks, and the steering fluid is leaking now. I feel 0 love for it and see it as a weight around my neck, but I feel beholden to keep it going for some reason. Maybe it's the sunk cost concept.

Oh it gets shitty gas mileage too and the AC cuts out after 25 minutes.

I don't think it's turning into obsession (god, I hope not), but when I look to sell it the market is flooded with similar makes and models and nothing is selling. It's like "what's the point if I can't get my money back out?"

When I do drive it though and I stomp on the gas pedal it feels like a rocket ship and my love for it is reaffirmed just a little bit.
