I use Debian and love OpenBSD.

Or can we sum more accurately by taking the stable_mean and multiplying by n?

1. Use good quality cards

2. /tmp on tmpfs

You're welcome.

m4r35n357··on I've now played with a Raspberry Pi 400 for a week and here are my conclusions
1. The 400 is faster than the 4 OOTB, and can be overclocked easily. 2. The 400 runs much cooler. 3. 4GB is plenty ;)

Chilling stuff
m4r35n357··on What gravitational-wave events reveal about the Universe
Looks like things started to get _much_ better after Virgo joined. I assume that is because of the increased "baseline" (angular resolution) and because two different instruments at different locations makes it easier to detect & reject spurious signals.

m4r35n357··on So you want to build an embedded Linux system?
You want "to use mature distro, with thousands of packages, with known bugs fixed, with fresh software, like Fedora." on an embedded system. Really?

TinyCC example in README is wrong, should have trailing '-': as in "cat pcg_basic.c pcg32-demo.c | tcc -run -"

m4r35n357··on The Weakness of Anthropic Arguments
OK fair enough, to me the opposition to the weak AP just seems to be people "unhappy" that a physical constant should need to be that precise.

In other words, for some reason they expect the universe to be more "understandable" or "sensible" than this . . .

Of course the strong AP is ludicrous in the extreme ;)

m4r35n357··on The Weakness of Anthropic Arguments
Isn't this just a form of "survivor bias"? I don't get why anthropic arguments are considered "weak".

The article seems to just be complaining that anthropic arguments cannot explain the precise _value_ of the fine structure constant. Well, nor can Occam's Razor, but we don't seem to have a problem quoting that!

m4r35n357··on Inheritance in C using structure composition
Dumb but genuine question from a non-expert programmer:

Most of the "OO" world seems to have abandoned inheritance as an anti-pattern in most cases (apart from genuine "is a" relationships).

I'm guessing the two case studies are in the list of exemptions from this rule.

So, is this considered a generally good thing to do in c?

m4r35n357··on The event that eventually led to Newton writing and publishing the Principia
Wow, I know Hooke was a complete dick to Newton over the optics, but I didn't realize he tried to shaft Newton _again_.
m4r35n357··on Web Dark Ages
Brilliant!

Historically, this was the start of an important process. That of turning a fully functional multimedia access and delivery network (the WWW) into a money-extraction system.

But Web 2.0 was just around the corner to solve that problem . . .
