I would suspect the person that was wanting to sit in the same row was lonely or scared and wanted company.

The author claims that the woman would not give a reason for her mysterious request, despite efforts - I'm not sure I would know how to resolve such an awkward conflict in the moment either (the conflict being the gamble on whether the woman's unstated reasons are worth sacrificing one's own feelings of safety for the duration of a flight).

What a tedious and unpleasant person

Wow, that's quite a strong insult, considering that I can't find a hint of what you could be referring to. You should really elaborate instead of lashing out.

If you are such a misanthrope that you are this disgusted by the mere suggestion that someone will share your personal space for a few hours, then I have nothing in common with you. That makes you unpleasant.

If you are so self important that you write an entitled article about it, that makes you tedious.

Hence, tedious and unpleasant.

Are we reading the same article? This isn't even close to reality. The accusation of misanthropy seems kind of hypocritical here.

The mere way she words this makes it clear what she really thinks of this person.

She doesn't think of them as another human being. They are a nuissance to her. The fact that she has to deal with them is an affront. It's such an affront, she wrote a long post about the burden she bears.

Nice little jab at the end there, subtly calling me a misanthrope. I thought I was the one who was insensitive. My feelings are really hurt over here, man.
