I live in the middle of nowhere USA. I'm about 1,000 feet off the road (that only random farms are on, about 20 miles from the small city we're near).

My local ISP trenched fiber to my house for free and provides gig internet for $80/month.

The funny thing is my previous house was in town and I had to settle for 100Mbit for the same price. ISPs are all sorts of messed up.

I had a similar situation a few years ago.

I knew I had strep, went to urgent care to get tested so I could get antibiotics. They said there was no way I had strep, and told me the white spots all over my throat were "stress cankers". I was really sick and ended up going back 2 hours later because I wasn't breathing well. They just blew it off again and wouldn't do anything for me.

5 hours later I was in the ER because I couldn't breathe and ended up having strep and pneumonia. ER doctor said I would have died if I had waited longer since I was had sepsis. He also told me that the strep test is only 50% effective so there is no way they should have been that dismissive of me.

Sure, but presumably they weren't working as a security engineer at the time.

I'm actually not sure about those, they both might not be allowed. I just lean on the side of forgiveness once you've "paid your debt to society".

I setup Home Assistant to be able to talk to my solar inverters and see my battery voltage without walking out into the garage (over modbus).

Since then I started adding in door sensors and my thermostat. I just need to find a way to see how much propane I'm using and I'll be set.

I tried to use this for a little bit, but I kept having random issues on things like Telegram and Slack where when it'd gain focus again it couldn't ever keep up with the keyboard as I was typing anymore.
