m0ngr31··on Jellyfin: Free Software Media System
I don't see why not
m0ngr31··on Jellyfin: Free Software Media System
I love Jellyfin. The clients aren't super mature, but the addon for Kodi works great for me so that's what I use.

The only thing I missed about Plex was having Plexamp, but now there is Finamp and Gelli for Android and I wrote one called Jellyamp for desktop and now all my media needs are covered

It does
m0ngr31··on Reasons to Quit Social Media
Yeah, I'm using shreddit which edits the comment and then deletes it.
m0ngr31··on Reasons to Quit Social Media
Lucky for me I didn't post very much on Twitter so it wasn't too bad to just manually delete them one at a time.

I'm using shreddit to edit and then delete my comments on Reddit. It has worked out pretty good for me so far.

I deleted my FB account maybe 8 years ago but didn't think to delete my posts first.

m0ngr31··on Reasons to Quit Social Media
I haven't experienced self esteem issues on Reddit, but the group think problem is one of the biggest issues I have with the platform.
m0ngr31··on Reasons to Quit Social Media
I have quit all social media except for HN and Reddit.

Although on Reddit I just use a burner account for comments and I have a cron job that deletes all my comments/submissions at 5PM every day so I'm not providing any value to the site. Has helped me wean off of just endless scrolling. I only use it about 15 minutes a day now.

m0ngr31··on Hospitals lift curtain on prices, revealing giant swings in pricing by procedure
My local hospital offers a cash discount of nearly 50% if you pay at time of service.
m0ngr31··on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
No, they still work great
m0ngr31··on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
Yeah it really has been a tank for me as well. The waterproofing would be really nice.
m0ngr31··on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
I do most of my reading at night, so the backlight is a big feature add for me. If you don't need it then there isn't a lot of convincing anyone can do for you.
m0ngr31··on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
I've been using a 2nd gen Paperwhite for a long time. This might be the one I upgrade to (for the waterproofing and the warm light).

I really don't like Amazon though, so it's been a hard justification. Kindle is the only thing left I use that is Amazon.

I've thought about switching to Kobo, but I'm not sure it's worth it with how easy everything is on the Kindle.

I run a docker container with Calibre, and I use it to send all my books to the Kindle over e-mail. I would lose that functionality on the Kobo. I'd have to go back to manually syncing which would be a pain.

m0ngr31··on There are six internet links on my office on wheels—seven when Starlink arrives
That's the TTL that some carriers use from the phone. So once it hits the router it goes down - meaning the carrier knows you're tethering. Setting it to back to 65 on the router makes it harder for the carrier to detect.
m0ngr31··on There are six internet links on my office on wheels—seven when Starlink arrives
That was the first one I tried, but I was getting data speeds of about .1 Mbps
m0ngr31··on There are six internet links on my office on wheels—seven when Starlink arrives
I setup a firewall rule in openwrt that said anything coming over USB needed to set the TTL to 65 so it looked like the data was coming from the phone itself and not from the tether.

IIRC, on the plan I was using on Cricket, I would get unlimited data + 15GB of tether. This just byapssed that limit.

I think they can almost figure it out because if I tried to tether without the TTL trick, data wouldn't work. So I'm guessing it still counted the data I was using against some kind of cap?

m0ngr31··on There are six internet links on my office on wheels—seven when Starlink arrives
Maybe for a weekend trip or just an overnight camping trip sure. But when your life is living in the camper you need internet.
m0ngr31··on There are six internet links on my office on wheels—seven when Starlink arrives
This is a pretty impressive setup. Recently I lived in an RV for a year and my setup was much more janky than this...

Basically consisted of a gl.inet router that I plugged in a old Moto X4. This allowed me to get wifi from whichever campsite we stayed at (always garbage) and then I would pay for 100GB from Cricket and T-Mobile. I would swap sims when I would run out of data about half way through the month.

Then I discovered I could get unlimited data on Cricket with a regular phone plan if I changed the TTL on the router. Ended up being the most stable option for the last few months.

m0ngr31··on Making Sierra Pay
The Quest for Glory series was my favorite as a kid. I'm not sure how many times I beat QFG1. I never did beat 2. But I clearly remember staying home sick one day from school and beating 3 in one sitting. Too bad that was probably the worst of the bunch.

Another favorite of mine was Conquests of Longbow. I think that one was a little more obscure?

m0ngr31··on CalyxOS – De-Googled Android Alternative
Nice, thanks
m0ngr31··on CalyxOS – De-Googled Android Alternative
I've been using MicroG+Lineage for a few years now. No complaints from me, but I don't use a ton of apps. Not sure what the advantage of CalyxOS would be over my current setup (especially considering Lineage has a much better catalog of supported devices)
m0ngr31··on CalyxOS – De-Googled Android Alternative
How do you disable networking for apps? I'd love to use Gboard offline. ASK just isn't as good.
m0ngr31··on Life before smartphones (2020)
I've been working my way through Seinfeld, and I realized most of the plot lines couldn't have happened if cell phones were commonplace back then.
m0ngr31··on Microsoft executive says U.S. overuses secret orders for Americans' data
You chose to work somewhere that enables the government to spy on its citizens and you're the offended party? That's rich
m0ngr31··on Rally, a novel privacy-first data sharing platform
Why? Seems to me I get absolutely nothing from this other than a wink from Mozilla that my data can't identify me.
m0ngr31··on Seven Years of Factorio Friday Facts (2020)
Maybe that's why I don't enjoy it... Feels like I could be getting work done on any of my side projects when I play. Don't have that same feeling when I'm playing other games.

That being said, I do enjoy it at LAN parties because I just build walls and hunt biter nests

m0ngr31··on Seven Years of Factorio Friday Facts (2020)
I've seen this said literally hundreds of times and can only imagine that these comments are hyperbole now.

I've given Factorio dozens of shots now, and have played for hours and hours with people who are great at the game, but it just isn't for me. I get bored in the monotony of the early game, and I'm too stupid to keep things going in the mid game.

m0ngr31··on Bibliogram – Open-source front-end for Instagram
I run an instance of this for the sole purpose of having an Instagram RSS feed.

I have a telegram bot run a muted channel that pulls feeds from various subreddits, some public Instagram accounts, and some random blogs. I've found it helps me from browsing aimlessly throughout the day.

m0ngr31··on How we use web components
We've started converting everything to web components using Stencil. Allows us flexibility to have the same look and feel no matter what framework we're using.

Took a minute to figure out how to get React/Vue components to render inside of a web component, but now we're all set.

Well it'd be almost impossible to sneak brass or steel cased cartridges through a metal detector (also the copper jacket on the bullet itself). Not to mention that you need a metal firing pin to hit the primer.
