luminarious··on Svelte5: A Less Favorable Vue3
Pug templates have been the most readable in my projects. Underappreciated imho, wish Astro also supported it.
luminarious··on Font with Built-In Syntax Highlighting
This seems like something that could be automated with code? It feels like a genuinely useful way of solving highlighting for most common use cases.
luminarious··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
https://hardi.design

I've had some form of personal site for more than 15 years now, usually with a hand-coded theme. It's unremarkable technically, but as a UX designer, it certainly gives me more confidence that I know how the web works.

Made with Saber (Vue.js) using Vercel.

luminarious··on Linux Has Largely Abandoned Still-Useful Near-Vintage Computers
Do you mean images and media, since these could be avoided/ mitigated? Or do you mean the browser itself won't work in a constrained environment?
luminarious··on Why are tech companies making custom typefaces?
Inter UI is quite impressive as far as usability goes: https://rsms.me/inter/
luminarious··on Digg Reader is planning to shut down on March 26
Why can't they just charge for it?
luminarious··on N64 object software renderer in 512 lines
How many lines of WebGL would it be?
luminarious··on Ask HN: Best current book to learn JavaScript?
http://javascript.info starts out simple enough for complete beginners but goes deep enough that even intermediate users can find new details.
luminarious··on A Localization Horror Story: It Could Happen to You
For websites, http://l20n.org seems the most natural version so far. Or is there something better?
luminarious··on The Lethality of Loneliness
I'm a fan of HabitRPG[1], been using it since the very first public version. It allows you set both positive and negative habits which you then track daily. Mobile app is coming soon, I hear.

luminarious··on Nice HTML5/GLSL explosion demo
It's rather hypnotizing like that. I wouldn't mind having a fireball like that as my desktop background. Never mind the resource usage and all that, because this has character!
luminarious··on Fear and Loathing and Windows 8
I don't recall when I last used the start menu to turn off the computer. I have a button on my laptop and pressing it hibernates the computer. Very handy.
luminarious··on Windows 8 Release Preview ready for download
It's using Metro as well.. http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/31/microsoft-outs-windows-se...
luminarious··on Programming as a Foreign Language
For a lot of the world population, english, as common as it may be in programming, is still a foreign language. People less fluent in English are that much less likely to try scripting something. Not only would the language keywords make little to no sense, but the supporting materials and comments as well.
luminarious··on Incredibox - Background music for programming.
These are a lot better than anything else I've heard today. I'd greatly appreciate anything else that evokes a similar mood.
luminarious··on Opera Confirms WebKit Prefix Usage
I'm sorry, but I fail to understand your grief about Opera. They've been nothing if not standard compliant since before most people had internet access. Not to mention the huge amount of not-PC-hardware they have provided a browser for (Opera Mini for feature phones, Opera for TV's with internet, Opera for Nintendo DS, DSi, 3DS)

I may be biased as long-time users often are, but they're definitely not comparable to the plague that is IE.

luminarious··on Opera Confirms WebKit Prefix Usage
I wonder how this will affect those who have started using javascript aids like http://leaverou.github.com/prefixfree/

At this point there are enough prefixes to make manually adding each more than a bit pointless.

luminarious··on Mozilla may make Flash click-to-play by default in future Firefox
This feature, although turned off by default, has been available in Opera for some time now. I quite like it.
luminarious··on We're in an icon-sharpness limbo
As SVG supports CSS and Media Queries, it's possible to optimize the display for different display sizes. Like demonstrated here: http://my.opera.com/ODIN/blog/2009/10/12/how-media-queries-a...
luminarious··on About those vector icons
But doesn't SVG support CSS Media Queries? That would make it more than possible to support showing/ hiding appropriate elements/ layers according to the current dpi, width/ height, orientation or whatever?
luminarious··on CSS Shader - Adobe brings WebGL to CSS
Well, this would certainly fit my workflow. Because I'm not a 3D-programmer and this approach is a much better fit for the casual 2D-games I want to make.
luminarious··on Why QR Codes Are Here To Stay
Please, can someone give a good reason why the bundled camera apps are not supporting QR codes? For an average user, it would be the easiest option to just use the camera on the phone. Less friction and so on.
luminarious··on Notch's Livestream for Ludum Dare 21
Max number of streams reached for my country. Who knew there are so many Notch fans in Estonia.
luminarious··on Opera Mobile Emulator
It's about the easiest way to test a website on a mobile browser, in my opinion.
luminarious··on Poll: Do you use Opera (the browser)?
In daily use, it seems pretty much the other way around. Opera supports standards, but everyone else goes beyond them.

Also, it's about time feature detection became mainstream because whitelisting certain browsers almost always means forgetting about Opera.

luminarious··on Open source graphic design
Yes, these programs have existed for a number of years, slowly improving and getting better. But every time I try to use them.. they feel clunky. There is just too much friction when I try to do the simple things. Maybe it's because I'm used to PS and AI, but I think Gimp and Inkscape would both be much better received if they invested more into being easy to use/ good-looking. Much like Sketchup did for 3D, where building basic models is easy and complex models possible.
luminarious··on Harvard Classics Bookshelf
Is there a better list available that you'd recommend? Because the idea of a curated list of books to read appeals to the lazy side in me. I like reading but not researching what to read..
luminarious··on Show HN: Can anonymous chat within identified groups create better discussions?
It would be fun if this approach was also used for the Google+ Circles, so you could have anonymous conversations within a circle.
luminarious··on Why I get my entertainment via BitTorrent
Note that a large number of these are apps stores. I can imagine the licencing fees or whatnot being the showstoppers for audio/video, but what on earth is so difficult about selling applications?
