lukeholder··on OS X Command Line Utilities
Recommend "Amphetamine" as an alternative. More features and kept up to date with bug fixes and improvements. I am not affiliated, just a happy user.
lukeholder··on Ruby Is Defined by Terrible Tools
Please read the article before posting. He mentions rubymine.
lukeholder··on Same-Sex Marriage Is a Right, Supreme Court Rules
> I'm not saying all judges must be atheists

So your saying you don't mind if people are a little bit religious as long has they are not fully devout to the principles of their religion?

lukeholder··on An Hour with Safari Content Blocker in iOS 9
yes, but if you read the article, the author states that was not blocked by the content blocker, he was just unable to get it to reappear.
lukeholder··on Crowdsourced home page
I just did a commit to start a css preprocessor war: https://github.com/robashton/crowdsourcedhomepage/commit/1d0...
lukeholder··on My Y Combinator experience
Yeah but then you could claim asking "why you wouldn't use a banana instead" is a useful conversation catalyst.

Clearly eclipse has nothing to do with their technology or product - it just showed ignorance. He even said prior to the remark, it was a application builder for people who don't code - yet they persisted.

YC do admit they make mistakes, and I think this is one of them. It was a terrible interview on both sides.

lukeholder··on One VPS GUI to rule them all
I have a feeling this was caught in a voting ring to be demoted from the HN frontpage so fast.
lukeholder··on Side projects
I think he means not 'responding', not complaining the website doesn't resize for different screen sizes (responsive).
lukeholder··on Sans Bullshit Sans
haha, favourite part is the logo satire at the bottom of the page.
lukeholder··on Update HN: I learned Swift and turned How a Car Works into an app in 6 weeks
Awesome work Alex! Who did all the illustrations for the book, how much did you spend on the content like diagrams?
lukeholder··on Laravel 5 released
Highly active community with awesome mentors like Jeffery Way (laracasts.com).
lukeholder··on Laravel 5 released
I agree, awesome resource which is rapidly levelling up many modern php developers.
lukeholder··on Laravel 5 released
Laravel represents what modern PHP can do and be. Clean, organised, fully object-oriented. Kudos to what Taylor Otwell has created both from a marketing perspective and technical standpoint.
lukeholder··on Hands-On with Microsoft's New Holographic Goggles
They should have gone all in on ironruby and it would have been a huge competitor to jruby to hip coders for the enterprise.
lukeholder··on Show HN: Httphub – The most essential backend for applications and devices
Is this open source? What language is it built on, which database does it use?
lukeholder··on How my life was changed when I began caring about the people I did not hire
I am reasonably experienced programmer who has delivered numerous web applications and websites. I could not explain to you how a linked list or binary tree worked - although I am sure I could look them up on google and understand the concepts given 30 minutes.
lukeholder··on Apple has lost the functional high ground
Me too, moving my in-laws to an imac has given me about 1-3 extra days in the year.
lukeholder··on The Benefits of Being Cold
Also consider the constructions of the buildings. Perth, Western Australia can be a very hot place, but during nights and winters I hear from people visiting here that it feels far colder than their homelands which reach lower temperatures. All our houses are built with concrete flooring due to being built on sand - the concrete acts like chunk of ice under the house.
lukeholder··on How Possibilities of Life Elsewhere Might Alter Held Notions of Faith
Organised religion is seen as full of dogma and inefficiencies, but people organising themselves for the benefit of all within the organisation might be the primary reason we are all together sharing the this earthly experience - to progress together - to help each other. Spiritually as solely personal internal pursuit may conflict with the reality we are sharing a common earthly experience, born into families and tribes that we are emotionally/spiritually bonded to.
lukeholder··on How Possibilities of Life Elsewhere Might Alter Held Notions of Faith
If the Human form is divinely inherited from a physical immortal/exalted Human (God), then assuming there are other Humans on other planets would not be a stretch as OP suggested.
lukeholder··on How Possibilities of Life Elsewhere Might Alter Held Notions of Faith
It might make sense in a human context if God has a physical (immortal) human body.
lukeholder··on How Possibilities of Life Elsewhere Might Alter Held Notions of Faith
The way I think about it is, if God created the earth, and placed us all together - then why shouldn't we try to meet the measure of our creation together as a team?
lukeholder··on Amethyst – A tiling window manager for OS X
I swear by BetterTouchTool +1
lukeholder··on USBdriveby – Exploiting USB in Style
Is the screen resolution independent on the mouse x,y coordinates for the OK click? Looks like in the code you know how far from the top left corner the OK button is for that computer only.
lukeholder··on Magnus Carlsen – “I am chaotic and lazy” (2010)
My favourite quote: "I listen to music on the Internet, but don't download any songs. It's all totally legal. Many people may find that boring, but I think it is important."
lukeholder··on Apple finally makes it easy to disable iMessage
I think the problem was that sometimes the iMessage did get delivered, but to an iPad, a Mac, or some other device with iMessage set up using the same Apple ID - so they couldn't just wait to see if the iMessage failed and then just send as a normal SMS.
lukeholder··on HTML5 Fluid Simulation in WebGL
I'm on a retina MBP, Yosemite, latest chrome, and it works amazingly for me.
lukeholder··on The Mormon Church Is Building a Family Tree of the Entire Human Race
The LDS church is doing massive amounts of work in preserving historical records. Here is a cool video about the process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFPo5BSS_AA
lukeholder··on iOS 8 Adoption Stalls at 47% of Users After Three Weeks
yes, turning on contrast will remove the translucency which will greatly improve performance.
